In the press today it has been written that Howe: 1. has not yet received an offer from melbourne 2. has had discussions about player bands and compensation bands 3. is looking to ensure Howe would be in the bottom half of the top 10 players in terms of compensation All of which, if true, is interesting. Number 3 would seem fair and about right based on his B&F finish of 9th Number 1 is particularly interesting. Ususally a club makes an offer and a player thinks about it while checking the market. The club may be playing a different game this year saying 'come back to us and tell us what you want' I have a feeling this trade period will bust open the whole trading/loyalty/contract basis that has been operating for many years. I reckon its about to get ugly with player demands,white anting, ambit claims, manager tactics etc.

Surgery suposedly went well and he is back running. Its as good as it can be at this stage of his rehab. I think everyone hopes he can make it back on to the park and back to his early form with the Dees. Would be great for him and for us. Ripping bloke and we wish him all the best.

Pre season looked like it was going to be a great success. Not sure what happened. Not great defensively and offensively has been disappointing. A few times has been streaming through the corridor and I thought 'I can see why we got him'. I suspect what is happening is true of a few players and I am going to cut him a bit of slack..... They start to play their natural game but get burnt a few times when players upfield aren't running where they should and providing leads/options etc. The ball is turned over and sails back over their head. They worry about their man getting the pill and go defensive rather than being an offensive player. H is not naturally a defensive player IMO He then starts second guessing and that split second of indecision makes him look like he is running up and down on the spot.. He gets the ball, goes to take off and then backtracks, runs around in a circle and looks less than confident/doesn't know what he is doing etc. I think when the team starts playing better he will look a lot better.

Nice try at sugar coating it but you can't simply try to support his year with that. So polling in the B&F isn't his bag, tagging isn't his bag, winning contested footy isn't his bag....his bag, whatever it is, doesn't do much for the MFC.
