I would if he wasnt turning 36 next year.

But he's genuinely cooked mate. Not that he was overly quick but his awareness and sharpness around stoppages have declined significantly.

Champion player, but he needs to.retire gracefully.

You might be right. His output has declined this year but that could also be due to being shifted out of the midfield. He has still looked to be a good kick from the Port games I’ve seen this year.

Im going out on a limb here but maybe consider Thommo as a defensive fwd on Weitering

He's a good kick. can run in straight lines. And good one on one.

Cannot see it happening. Thommo is too slow.

We would be better off playing Petracca forward more and getting Sparrow and Jordon to play more in the midfield.

Oliver, Viney, Sparrow and Jordon can win enough ball. Rivers can also go inside for a stint.

Fritsch, Pickett, Petracca, TMac, Smith and Chandler can provide enough chances to kick a winning score. Our average score against has been only 59 in the last four matches.

I don't know it for a fact, but IF Brundy asks to move on due to lack of opportunity, then why would any sane mature wannabe first ruck want to come to MFC?

Yes, maybe an up and comer wanting to look ahead a year or three, or a genuine forward / 2nd ruck.

Are there any of these available?

I think Chol is a good option.

  4. I think it will be difficult for us to attract a decent pure ruck as a back up. Nobody wants to be a certain VFL player.

We are better off going for a forward/ruck who could play alongside Gawn and fill in as a ruckman if Gawn gets injured.

Anyone give summary of the whole article.

    Key points

    • Sydney is set to swoop on dual All-Australian Brodie Grundy as the Swans prepare to buck their own trend by trading in multiple ready-made stars to steel themselves for a shot at premiership glory.
    • The Swans will also go hard at Grundy following the retirement of ruckman Tom Hickey and it emerged on Saturday they were the frontrunner to secure his services.
    • While Sydney’s salary cap remains tight, the departures of Lance Franklin and Hickey should free up roughly $1 million.
    • Rival clubs noted on Saturday that with so many long-term contracts the Swans would also have the flexibility to move money around. They have locked away Nick Blakey (until 2031), Callum Mills (2029), Isaac Heeney and Tom Papley (2028).
    • Sydney is armed with picks No.21 and No.29, which will be both bumped back about five places due to matched bids on draft night and compensation.

That was damning and showed a real structural problem

May and Lever pushed high up the ground Hill or the other Coll fwds would sprint as soon as the Pies won possession and outnumber us in our D50. They had multiple players free on many occasions and they kicked straight.

We let them use the corridor and we were stagnant and refused to look inside. they showed vision where - a number of times - we had multiple players free in the middle but we stopped and then kicked long down the line. Absolutely to instruction.

We are out in straight sets again unless he changes something.

The risk of pressing so high is that we get caught over the back occasionally but our defence was excellent for the most part. But Collingwood only had 15 shots for the whole game and just 9 shots after quarter time. I wouldn't be changing the way we defend.

The issue with our tactics is much more with our ball use inside 50 (and our forwards competing better to get the ball to ground).

    Still feeling incredibly flat.

Can't help but think this is the one that we'll look back as the one that got away. Such a completely different feeling to this time last year.

Was just hearing on SEN that Port are currently the walking wounded and if they beat the giants I feel like we could have gotten them at their most vulnerable.

Trying to stay positive but it's a challenge to be honest. Worried that this game has mentally sucked the life out of the players.

It is Monday morning and time to move on. As callus as it sounds, we need to stop focusing on the Brayshaw/Maynard incident and get ready for another monster battle. Just a few tweaks and we will this flag.

•Zerk Thatcher had 9 kicked on him against Jesse Hogan. No thanks

•Henry is off to the hawks.

•All the Dow talk is that he's off to the saints

•Chol is one of the least competitive big man of thr competition.  Pass.

Daniel Turner will be at least a good AFL player and is the answer down back.

I think Chol is worth going for because he can play ruck/forward.

I admire your positivity the only way we win is if Tmac and the bun kick 2 goals each and I would suggest the chance of that are extremely remote.

We had 23 shots to 15 on Thursday against the flag favourite. We just need average efficiency in front of goal to fix our game.

Btw, melb vs Carlton will be played on Saturday night. Collingwood earn the right to play their prelim on Friday night giving them an extra day rest. their opponent won’t be coming off a 6 day break therefore they have to play on Friday a week out from prelim.

Is that confirmed? I assumed we would be Friday

We simply don’t have the forward to win against Carlton. Expect another straight sets exit.

Come on Old Dee, we’re playing excellent football everywhere except the front third. A couple of tweaks and we’ll win the flag.

  12. No to two rucks. We are better just with Gawn even though TMac was poor.

Rivers into the midfield and Turner into defence.

Petracca more forward with Van Rooyen out.

    Jordon for Brayshaw.

Woewodin to be sub. Laurie isn’t AFL standard.

We have significant midfield depth issues.

When Brayshaw went down I was hoping Sparrow could stand up and provide some cover.

He was incredibly disappointing and having only 2 disposals to half time for a midfielder is simply unacceptable. Working out what exactly his role is confusing. At some stage he needs to step up and not live off just getting 12-15 disposals per game.

With Jordon, Harmes and Dunstan potentially all gone, this will now cut deep with midfield experience and depth.

Unfortunately I don't know what's out there in terms of midfield depth. My hope is a out of the blue scenario ala Lachie Hunter.

Sparrow had a very poor half but has been good this season overall.

Petracca and Oliver are extremely durable.

    Brayshaw will hopefully recover.

    Neal Bullen could play midfield.

Kossie and Rivers can go inside.

    Woewodin is showing a bit.

Howes could become a midfielder as he develops strength.

Kynan Brown will be a midfielder.

We should look to pick up another experienced midfielder for depth if Jordon or Harmes exit, but our draft picks should be favouring classy and quick forward types. A lot of the best midfielders in the league started their careers outside the centre square and only went in their once they developed enough strength, power and endurance.

based on the closing of the loophole after the Cripps incident, they can't.

I think the technicality which caused Cripps to get off was on a point of law. I am not sure that this is relevant here.

    https://au.sports.yahoo.com/afl-makes-major-change-after-patrick-cripps-brownlow-medal-controversy-022211787.html

The AFL has made a suite of changes to the Tribunal process to eliminate 'technicalities' of the sort which allowed Carlton's Patrick Cripps to win last year's Brownlow Medal. The Blues were able top successfully overturn a two-match ban issued over a rough conduct charge over what essentially was an error of law.

Cripps, who had fronted the Tribunal on a rough conduct charge over a round 21 incident involving Brisbane's Callum Ah Chee, was initially handed a two-match ban before it was subsequently overturned following a marathon hearing at the Appeals Board. Cripps was ultimately let off the hook when the Appeals Board ruled the findings of the jury were unreasonable, due to the term 'bump' being referenced in the verdict, but not when Cripps or his counsel were addressed.

The van Rooyen case earlier this year was also similar in that it was a head knock caused in a football act.

  15. My take on the Maynard bump is that it was similar to the Patrick Cripps bump on Ah Chee last year, where Cripps left the ground initially to contest in a football action but then bumped him in the head. I don't think it was clear cut that Maynard should be suspended but the AFL will surely want to see him suspended and I think the tribunal will say it was accidental and let him off (particularly because it is Collingwood and finals).
