  1. Ah well, the only thing you can measure about motivational speakers is the decibel level and the length of their words.
  2. A motivational speech lasts about as long afterwards as the length of the speech. A whole motivational conference lasts little more than a week.
  3. Bananas are only one good cyclone away from being $15 a kilo.
  4. Ablett and Watson were selected before the AFL brought in the father-son bidding system in 2007. Previously clubs only had to use a second- or third-round pick. That's historical circumstance. Anyway, name a player selected under father-son since 2007 that you think was actually worth a top-ten pick.
  5. If I was able to magically insert one player from another club into the Melbourne midfield with the aim of making a huge difference, it would be Sam Mitchell. Viney is the same height as Mitchell. And he's currently only a couple of kilos lighter ... he'll make that up with half a pre-season.
  6. This is like swapping footy cards with your friends.
  7. Hmmm. Those two paragraphs somehow just don't seem to correlate.
  8. I want the club to clean out the list with due process over the next month or two, then set about drafting as best they can. I don't want poor communication that panders to the impatience of a few supporters. Remember that there are player's welfare, 'exits' and futures to be considered, that are more important than us simply finding out.
  9. Richmond retired and delisted 12 players (plus one rookie) at the end of 2009, from the crapola-Wallace era. Just about all were NQR list-cloggers. One was their 2005 #5 pick (Oakley-Nicholls). Then in 2010 they traded out their 2004 #4 pick in Tambling. It doesn't seem to have affected their long-term prospects, in fact quite the reverse.
  10. Just a correction .. it was a PSD pick straight on to the list, not a rookie pick.

  12. Go to the (shortened) article where they ask you to log-in to see the full article. Copy the entire url from the browser url locator into the Google search box, then click the search icon. Click on the top article (usually the only article) in the Google search results. Hey ... if the Hun can't build a better paywall, that's their problem.
  13. Enquired by some wag who also doesn't know much about golf. There are a lot better golf courses in Perth than Royal Perth ... squashy and hemmed in by freeways. Maybe we could get him an assistant's job at Royal Melbourne a la Jeff White.
  14. Moloney isn't suffering from any mental demons. He's suffering from the physical inability to run, spread, cover his man and defend.
  15. The probability that someone will be subject to a "let's get ..." statement can be explained by the following formula: P = (X/16 * D)/T where: P is the probability in per cent X is your club's position on the ladder D is a factor of 100 if the poster is on Demonland T is the time elapsed in days since the person was sacked
  16. Don't look too closely, they're behind a tree waiting to get you.
  17. Brock went from the apprentices to the masters. He played in the 'Kreuzer Cup' match, Round 22, 2007 and would have seen the Blues' methods. If he's got a real concern about the ethics of tanking, he would have chosen not to go to Carlton.
  18. Since we started our 'rebuild' post-2006, I can only think of Bruce, Warnock, James MacDonald, Cheney and Simon Buckley, and I'm not slashing my wrists thinking they're doing much better elsewhere, or that we are drastically missing their contribution (maybe somewhat in the case of Junior).
  19. Magner and Couch were extremely low-cost rookie picks designed to at least instil a little bit of hardness into the AFL's crappiest midfield. You can't make a major judgement about Neeld on two end-of-rookie-draft picks that were nothing more than hopeful and speculative.
  20. Somewhere out in the Andromeda galaxy.
  21. I think the prosecution team would prefer it.
  22. We've said we'd be willing to give up pick #4, and we've said we want Boak, but we haven't said we'd be willing give up pick #4 for Boak.
  23. While "should of" started as a written corruption of "should've" (similarly "would of" and "could of"), I have noticed people now clearly using "should of" in speech, including football commentators like Brian Taylor. I think unfortunately it's here to stay. As for the apostrophe, maybe it would be better if it was removed from keyboards altogether ... there are far more errors with it erroneously put in plurals than left out of possessives.
  24. Tom McNamara was out twice ... out of the team, and out of the club.
  25. Not if we've just signed him up for a new contract.
