It's a pretty bad example. "Poor people get bashed. Rich people get bashed too". Does that diminish the plight of the poor? Or does it mean we should have less pity or regard for rich people who get bashed? I repeat ... I am not diminishing the importance of violence against women. It's terrible and abhorrent. What makes it worse than other violence is the power imbalance. But we have to be careful that through omission we don't accept a sort of 'boys will be boys' way of thinking and that male violence is therefore not worthy of attention. As a male I don't like being bashed either.

Violence against women is indeed totally unacceptable. That doesn't mean however that violence against men is somehow acceptable by omission.

I don't see why you can't decry both, and I don't see why one diminishes the other.

I don't see how you can infer that from what I said. I was simply making the point that while violence against women is abhorrent, if it had been a man that was threatened by Martin with a chopstick, I'd hope it would also be worthy of our condemnation. I don't think violent and intimidatory behaviour against anyone is acceptable.

Well I'd hope that if it had been a man he'd threatened we'd be trying to stamp out violence against everybody.

A blockathon in the India v SAf test. South Africa are 5/136 off 138 overs (85 maidens) at tea on the last day, trying to rescue the test. Amla 25 off 244 balls, Du Plessis 10 off 97, AB de Villiers 43 not out off 296.

You could argue with a bit more sophistication than that. So the negative effect of an increase from 350ppm to 450ppm of carbon in the upper atmosphere 'beggars belief'? These are all 'infinitesimal by your argument: 2 parts per million of chlorine in water is the difference between getting typhoid and having a sanitised, clean water supply. An increase from 1ppm to 5ppm of fluoride in water is the difference between preventing tooth decay and possibly causing liver damage. A level of 34-51 parts per million of chlorine gas in air will kill you in an hour. (BTW, I don't think the planet really cares what the temperature difference is betwen one of your rooms and another.)

Is there a physical state between 'skinny' and 'bulked up', or is that all there is? Just wondering.

One game is hardly a good sample to make a judgement. -

Don't worry about Max and Mitch. We can just Mix and Match. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER

You can be a skinny Toumpas or a skinny Heppell. There's nothing early on that says how you'll end up. Heppell goes OK. Essendon might get a lot of value out of Parish. -

Not complaining. There's some Scully in Parish and some Dangerfield in Oliver. -
As is usual in these types of cases, the authority has to lay charges that will actually stick. It would be a waste of taxpayer's funds going to court with wishful allegations that have no chance of being proven. You'd also need to find out what the maximum fine was under the legislation when the offences were alleged to have been committed (the maximum is now over $1.3 million). This is a matter of State legislatioin, so don't necessarily blame or slander WorkSafe as being remiss.

Might have developed a lot better if he'd been at a good club, instead of Carlton.

Jack Darling is 191/87. He goes all right as a forward. Better than Lucas Cook anyway.

I don't think it's gamesmanship. I think it's clever, honest, mutual agreement.

I wouldn't pay #12 for Yarran.

I'll vote after 2pm tomorrow.

I wish Toumpas well. If he wants to go home, we have facilitated it. His value now has nothing to do with him originally being #4. He is an absolute draft bust, worse than Cale Morton. To my mind he wasn't physical enough, never recovered from his hip problem, was nowhere near as good a kick as he was touted to be, panicked in traffic and under pressure, and couldn't get a game in a bottom six side for the last nine rounds of the year when we had plenty of injuries. He was probably homesick, and has been surpassed by players like Harmes, Stretch, Neal-Bullen and vandenBerg etc. who came much more cheaply in the drafts. I don't know why anyone would expect more of the trade as his record wasn't good. So be it, we clean the decks and carry on.

If you were hanging on every word from Trade Radio, that would be a week-and-a-half of your life you'd never get back.
-
If he's such a 'gun' worthy of a first round pick, why didn't they match the offer? Then they'd be required to trade and maybe get something better.

Delistings/trades at end of the season

Tyson has a contract at Melbourne until the end of 2017. -
It's perfectly possible to express appreciation of posts and player's physical prowess without resorting to pubescent sexual innuendo and references to 'boners'. There are thousands of other perjoratives in the dictionary, try looking some up. It might increase your vocabulary, make you better writers and develop your frontal lobes a little.
