  1. A+: Top 4 A: Finals B: More wins than last year, just outside top 8 C: Same wins as last year D: Fewer wins than last year E: Bottom 4
  2. Thought we could lay some claim to Martin Flanagan.
  3. According to this Hun piece, GWS are heavily into Murphy, plus Pendlebury and Thomas.
  4. Bruce left the club because he wouldn't accept our terms. We wouldn't accept his. Good luck to him, he's not the first to leave a football club and we'll get over it. I doubt if his "experience" is going to be the difference between going down or up the ladder in 2011. Despite our youth, we still have at least 20 players on our list who are into their third season or more. Brad Green has 11 seasons' experience, Rivers and Moloney 8, MacDonald, Sylvia and Aaron Davey 7. I think the effects of losing Bruce's experience will be over-rated, and others will step up.
  5. This was an interesting piece by Shane Crawford in May this year - Robert Campbell worth the punt Among the quotes: "Don't be surprised if ... Robert Campbell makes a shock comeback next year. I went cycling with Robbie along Beach Rd recently and I told him that I have never seen him in better shape. He said he was feeling the best he ever has. I said to him: "Robbie, you should make a comeback." "Robbie turns 28 next month, the same age as James Podsiadly. His career ended ... when constant knee issues forced him into premature retirement. He got the scan results ... and they were not good. The club needed him to make a decision ... in terms of filing their list with the AFL. But I'm sure if Robbie had had his time again, he would have taken more time to think it through ..." "Refreshed and re-energised, he could give a club at least 50 games, if he can overcome his knee issues. I'm sure it is not just on the playing field that he would make a difference. He shows natural leadership ... He has a strong character and work ethic."
  6. There's a lot of frontal lobe development that can go on in a few years from the age of 17 to the early 20s. Maturity, a few wake-up calls, some bitter disappointments and the ending of a dream, and the realisation that the world doesn't revolve around them as an individual, can have a profound influence on a young man, and I don't necessarily agree with the "once a figjam, always a figjam" scenario. I'm sure the club will be doing the correct and thorough assessment. Plus it's a rookie spot and there's a chance for further assessment over a couple of years without much investment or ultimate loss comparative to an ND pick.
  7. Rookie them all. It would be great to have Mark LeCras, Angus Monfries, Bryce Gibbs, Andrew McLeod and Danyle Pearce in the rookie list! B)
  8. So how are we going to pick him? The only option is as a mature-age rookie.
  9. For which he would be paid. "I thought my body was good enough to play a role for side, but the club sees it differently. That's a tough call, but I respect it and look forward to the next opportunity wherever that may be." "I have had a terrific time at the club, and feel privileged to have played with so many champions of the game. I would also like to thank all the staff that have supported me so I could achieve what I have." "The next chapter now begins and I will take time to assess what lies ahead both in and away from football." Doesn't sound like he's too bitter or the axing was unexpected.
  10. 24 games in three years, two only in 2010. Does anyone think that every other club in the country wouldn't be aware of Hansens's fragile body, and that he'd have more hope of being picked up if they'd got rid of him earlier (and Worsfold hadn't said he was being delisted because "his body wouldn't hold up")? The guy's a physical wreck and the whole world knows it. Few would take a risk on him, whether now or a month ago.
  11. And Cook was one of 11 players at the Draft Combine that scored 5/5 in the kicking test.
  12. Obviously BP didn't think Cook would last until #33. Cook was the AA Under-18 CHF, ahead of Lynch. Why do you think Lynch would go at #11 but Cook would last until #33? Even a lot of Big Footy draftheads had him Top 20.
  13. Did you miss the words "long term" in the post?
  14. The few weeks between the end of the season and the start of training is full of magic! Players can bulk up, grow taller or turn to blobs with the click of a Canon.
  15. Melbourne has four spaces on its player list. Bruce leaving doesn't make any difference because he was a veteran, it only frees up an extra rookie spot. We currently have #12, #33, #50 and #53 in the ND. The only way to get a PSD pick at all is to forego #53 ... or delist another player.
  16. If we use our four picks in the ND, we won't have a pick in the PSD. Our list will be full.
  17. That's what they've done and it's deceptive. They've listed Hawthorn as "elevating" Moss, Peterson, Stokes, Kayler-Thomson and Skipper, and they were all delisted last week.

    Top 5

For how they play the game: 1 Green 2 Frawley 3 Grimes 4 Scully 5 Garland (Scully and Trengove will probably shoot up my list in future.) Just for what they can do: 1 Jurrah 2 Davey 3 Green 4 Sylvia 5 Bennell Jurrah will always be No. 1 while he's playing.
  19. Interview With Les Bamblett if you haven't come across it.

  21. In China, Jo Boi gives three-character translations. B)
  22. There might have been some element of 'KP' need in the selection of Watts. Otherwise somelike like Stephen Hill might have been as good a choice.
  23. If the players listed were in the pool for the 2010 draft, I'd struggle to see how Gawn would go at #3, given that he was #34 last year, is still overcoming injury and hasn't yet played an AFL game. Others (e.g. Watts, Trengove, Scully, Grimes etc.) would have to go higher, surely?
  24. Scully Frawley Trengove Jurrah Watts Garland Grimes Petterd Morton McKenzie Gysberts Wonaeamirri Tapscott Bail Bennell Blease Gawn Spencer Jetta Strauss Maric Fitzpatrick McNamara Still difficult to separate actual achievement from potential. You could raffle the last nine spots.
