Delistings/trades at end of the season
Lord Travis replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Here's Prestia's stats compared to Nathan Jones the pas 2-3 seasons. They are pretty much on par. And Prestia was 20 at the time those stats were taken. Before his injury this year he had surprassed Jones statistically even though he's only 22. Kid is a certified gun midfielder. -

Fixed that for you. If he wants to leave and nominates us as his preferred club, then the trade will get done. Easy trade, we give them our first pick. If they play hard ball we throw in Howe and take their second round pick or something along those lines. Prestia is a certified gun and IMO would be our best player within 12 months. He's already on par with Nathan Jones the last 2 seasons! -

I think we'd fit them in fine. It would free up guys like Vince and Tyson to do a bit more damage on the outside as both can kick long goals. It would make us less reliant on Jones and Vince to do all the work and shift the tag around a bit also. Prestia is serious quality and if there is even the slightest chance we can get him we should throw everything at him. Anyone who leads the league in clearances and averages 27 touches a game and 5-6 tackles a game would be huge for our midfield. -

Hopefully these Dion Prestia rumors come to fruition. Yes we have a decent number of in and under mids, but he would walk into our club and just about be our best player. Statistically his last 2 seasons have been pretty much on par with Nathan Jones. Second only to Ablett in their best and fairest. He'd be a great pick up by the club and definitely help our future midfield prospects. Well worth our first pick and a decent amount of coin! -
Post Match Discussion - Round 12 (never in doubt)
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Absolutely stunned by the win today. I had to work and turned the AFL app on during the 3rd quarter. What I saw was the boys showing a heap of fight that didn't let up. Our old heads like Dunn, Jones, Vince, Lumumba etc were finally all standing up together. The youngsters like Viney, Brayshaw, Stretch were all giving it their all. Seeing Brayshaw smashing into anything wearing navy and white that moved was a deelight. Seeing Viney just work Selwood over and win clearances was a deelight. Seeing Bernie racking up ball and set up/score goals was a deelight. I never thought we had a hope of winning down there today. Years of conditioning will do that to you. I'm so happy and proud of the win. This is definitely one the team can reflect on and build into something great. GO YOU MIGHT DEES!!! -
He's obviously doing some good work behind the scenes for us. It's great to see us developing players better now. Hopefully McCartney can get the youngsters to fulfil their talent unlike the last 7-8 years!

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 11
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Vince 5. Toumpas 4. Hogan 3. Watts 2. Cross 1. Viney No votes for Jones today. Poor leadership again and he is really not having a great year. His numbers might look ok, but he is playing selfish football. He's not going in for the hard ball as much and is calling for cheap handball receives. Really hoping he starts breaking these tags and having more of an impact on games as we are missing him firing recently. Would also be great to get guys like Tyson and Dunn firing again! -
He's had a solid month of footy now. He's showed this kind of form before, his game in his first year against Geelong in the wet was an eye opener. Hopefully he can continue to show form like he did today and prove all the critics wrong. Good onya Dimitri!

Hello bottom 4 Those are the games we need to win. We have not improved this year. We are still bottom 4. What a horrible effort that last quarter was. How can you not defend and lock the ball up for 40 seconds? 40 f*cking seconds!?!
-
So f*cking disappointing. It's unbelievable a team can lose like that. How long until this crap changes!?!
-
To the people saying drop Toumpas, yes he made a few poor decisions, but overall he actually had a decent game. He had 21 disposals, 8 contested, 80% efficiency, 5 score involvements, 4 clearances, 3 rebound 50s and 4 tackles. They're decent stats, and he was far from our worst today. We need to let him gain more confidence and build on these games. He's already showing a bit this year. Dropping him would be yet another poor selection decision. I'm sick of him being a scape goat on this site.

Signed! Christian Petracca extends contract until end of 2018.

Looks like this never happened. Maybe he got scared off after the belting on the weekend -
Would be an amazing pick up for our midfield, but would cost a lot. Gold Coast would want at least a first round pick plus a player. He's young and already producing. He'll take over from Ablett as their captain too if he stays. Superb footballer. He'd cost us a lot to trade for but if he is able to be swayed then he'd be worth paying overs for.
-
Need quality mids. You can always rove the opposition ruck taps. A few years back Hawthorn would just concede the ruck and Mitchell and co would rove to the opposition ruckman. A good ruckman is less important than good mids to read it and get it. GET SOME GOOD MIDFIELDERS MELBOURNE FFS!!!
-
Disappointing we won't be able to get him across in the near future. he's the exact kind of player we need. Young, hard, quick player who will play midfield and is currently developing at a successful club. Would've been a good get. Oh well, he'll do well at the Swans.
-
Old post of mine, but just some info about him for those interesting. As I said below, I think he'd be a good get and would be happy to trade any pick outside the top 10 for him. Getting a kid with 2 years developing at Sydney in a completive and successful environment is better than a fresh 18 year old. Get it done Dees.
-
The same thing we've needed for years, quality midfielders! Any of Dangerfield, Shiel, Treloar, Coniglio could be on the move and we must land one. I don't care if we have to pay overs, we need quality midfielders and it's not like our current list would demand much of a salary. I'd throw $1,000,000 a year at Shiel. He's got line breaking pace, strong ball winning ability and kicks goals. He's also still young. He'd be the perfect target.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Happy to see Toumpas break back into the time. Surprised to see Grimes dropped. he may not be a superstar, but he did a decent job on Ballantyne and was probably one of our best. It's sad how his career is panning out as he is such an enthusiastic Melbourne man and he was very good earlier in his career. Surprised also to see Jamar dropped. While he hasn't been great he has still battled alone in the ruck this year and hasn't been our worst. VERY happy to see Stretch debut. I've written on here multiple times that I think he's going to be a great player for us. He's got good pace, good endurance, good kicking skills, is a decent mark for his small size, and most importantly finds the ball. I think he's going to own a wing of the MCG for the next 10-12 years and be our Isaac Smith/Brad Hill type. Best of luck to the kid!! -
He's been pretty good so far. He needs to find more ball, only averaging 16-17 disposals a match for a midfielder isn't great, but he's definitely shown he goes when it's his turn and hits the scoreboard as well. Hopefully we se him in the centre a bit more this year as the season goes on, he hasn't spent a lot of time there yet and has been floating around the flanks. He's got the ability to be a ball winner and should develop that over the next few years. Overall he's been a good pickup for us and will likely be part of our midfield rotation for years to come. A step up on the M. Jones, Mckenzies and Bails IMO.
-
Bad luck and hope he has a speedy recovery. To play devils advocate, the people saying he has been providing great defensive pressure in the forward line... you're wrong. He's laid 1 tackle per game this year, that is far from good. He was told by the coaching staff he needed to step it up or he'd get the axe and it looked like he was responding well, laying 3 tackles in the first quarter before getting injured. It's prt of his game he needs to work on and the coaching staff have started this thankfully. What we will really miss is his pace and ability to break lines. Multiple times a game he will take the ball down the field on a run and being involved in scoring chains. We don't have many quick players who can do this. JKH has potential for this, Jeffy has been good this year, but we need Toumpas and Stretch and the like to step it up in this area. We're going well winning contested ball but still lack quality outside run. Hopefully Kent is able to come back strong and have an impact later this year. He certainly has the talent, he just needs to become more rounded as a player and become more consistent.
-
Didn't see it but he will be a big loss. He is a reliable little player who goes about it the right way. Hope he is ok.

6. Jones 5. Vandenberg 4. Hogan 3. Salem 2. Vince 1. Michie

Enjoy the win everyone! Solid win in wet conditions on the big stage! We've got Fremantle, Sydney and Hawthorn the next 3 weeks so gonna be rough. Let's see how the boys handle a really tough run of matches. I don't expect to win any, but I would like to see us put up a good fight and not lose momentum we're building.
