The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Think we missed the boat with Prestia. If we couldn't lure him away the past two years, I don't think we'll get him next year if other more successful Victorian clubs enter the race. O'Meara will go somewhere else like Hawthorn or Collingwood. -
Frost will be good for us down back long term. He's strong, quick and aggressive. He'll pair beautifully with T-mac as our two key defenders. He provides good run too, showed it a few times already in red and blue before getting injured. He is not a forward though. Play him key defender.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCHELL KING

Good to get another ruckman onto the list. We need to develop a few more to help support big Max or cover him if he gets injured. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Lord Travis replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't know much about this guy as he seems to have come out of nowhere the last week or two. Very exciting to get another big bodied midfielder into the club though. We've assembled a big aggressive group of young midfielders now, if they all develop properly we will be a force in years to come. I like Olivers aggression in the highlights. Like Bradshaw, he really buries opponents when he tackles them. His kicking skills don't look great, mostly just bang it on the boot Brent Moloney style, but he seems very effective so hopefully his game translates well to elite level. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
Lord Travis replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let's hope he can get fit and get out on the park consistently. If he can he has all the tools to for a good pairing with Hogan up forward. He looks like have a really good overhead marks, good set shot and throws himself at the ball in the air. -
This kid is super talented. It will be very interesting where he is selected and where he plays at AFL level. Wouldn't be disappointed if we snagged him with pick 7.
-
Curnow will not become a midfielder at AFL level. He isn't clean with his hands on the deck, doesn't think quickly enough under pressure and has below average skills. His only chance is as a lead up forward who runs his opponent into the ground and clunks marks over and over.
-
Can't wait to see this kid in red and blue. He gets to the right spots, delivers it well to leading forwards, reads taps really well and has clean hands in congestion. He's such a well rounded midfielder, one of the best outside/inside mids in the draft and a really driven competitor. I love that he's known as one of the best slegders too, shows he has real confidence and attitude. He'll be taken at pick 3. His supposed smaller size is a non issue. In 1-2 years time he'll be 80+kgs and be the same size as Selwood, Ablett, Sam Mitchell, Boak, Robbie Gray, Nathan Jones etc. Hasn't stopped them being superstars! The only question left is who we will take at pick 7. Suspect Curnow is on the outer after his drink/driving incident. Also unsure what he will become at AFL level. His stint in the midfield showed he'll never make it there, he's not clean or smart enough. He is too small for a KPF, so he winds up a chunky third tall? Unsure how Weiderman tested the other day but he may be in calculation if the club believes they can manage his body right. Oliver has too little exposed good form so hope we don't take him. Francis is possibly the most talented but again what will he become? Third tall defender? He has shown a few good spurts through the midfield. Milera looks the goods, but will he be able to adapt to having less time and more pressure on him? Will there be a go home factor? McKay has huge potential, hasn't played the game as long and could become a superstar. If he was 6 days younger he'd be in next years draft and be talked about as Pick 1. Like Oliver though there isn't much good exposed form to judge from? It will be interesting to see who we wind up with alongside Parish!
-
We'll be taking Parish with pick 3. Essendon wanted him with pick 4 so we made the deal with Gold Coast to get pick 3 and pinch him. Bookmark it. He's the best midfielder in the draft (after Hopper who goes to GWS as an academy pick). His decision marking and skills are elite. He's not super quick, but reads the play well so he always gets to where the ball heads. Despite his size he isn't a pure outside midfielder like some peg him to be. He's more than capable of winning his own ball as his stats say. Roughly half his possessions are contested and he usually gets 7-8 clearances a game. He'll be at worst a solid midfielder at AFL level, and at best he'll be elite. Lucky we get him with pick 3! Pick 7 will be whoever falls. Hoping Francis slips through to us there as he is super talented, but will be happy with whoever the club chooses. It's nice to finally trust the club to get these decisions right!

Had a few really good years as evidenced by his All Australian selection. He always battled his all and was often completely stuffed at the end of matches after rucking his own the whole match, often against multiple opponents. I've been lucky enough to meet him a few times and he's a really nice guy who always had time for a chat and was really positive. Best of luck to him for his future and thanks for the service to the club. Will be fondly remembered by my family.
-
I liked Mayes back when he was drafted and he had a decent first year, but I must admit I haven't noticed him much since. Has he had injuries? What would Brisbane realistically want for him? Is he worth it?
-
Watts is versatile and should play on the wing delivering it to Lynch. Dawes is the tall who leads up and obviously doesn't do a great job of it. Lynch would be perfect to replace him with going forward.
-
Hall would be a perfect target in my opinion. His last 6 weeks have been fantastic. Worst game in that period has been 24 disposals, he's averaging 29 disposals since moving into the midfield and kicking a goal a week too. On top of winning lots of ball, he has SPEED, and he uses it effectively yo break away from stoppages too. Once Ablett, Prestia, O'Meara and Swallow come back in he falls back down the midfield pecking order. I say we throw a second rounder and try to lure him across. It's a week draft and we're not going to find a better player than him outside the top few picks.
-
If we can get Lynch, we'd be stupid not to try. He's a good lead up forward and leads the AFL in goal assists, while banging through 27 of his own. Not only that, he averages 20 disposals a game working up the ground. He'd immediately become one of the most productive players in our team. On work ethic alone he is worth it. Big upgrade on someone like Dawes who tries but just can't cover ground and clunk marks. Lynch would fill this role for us and setup Hogan nicely. He has a young family and therefore wants a longer contract to help secure his families future. Adelaide only prepared to offer 2 years at about 350k. We're offering 3 or 4 years 400-500k. In the grand scheme of things, we've paid for more than that for spud players. He'd be worth the investment as he'd actually give us some output for the outlay. We'd probably just on trade the pick we get for Howe leaving.

Narrowing down the draft - Dees to pick between 3 mids?
Lord Travis replied to Young Blood's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm hoping we trade our first round pick for a quality developed AFL midfielder. If not, and having not watched TAC this year and going purely off footage, Parish looks the best of those mentioned. He seems the most well rounded, skilled and intelligent midfielder. Curnow interests me though. I couldn't find any footage of him as he has been injured I believe? He's listed as a big forward who has played stints in the midfield. At 191cm he is too small to be a key forward at AFL level. Could he be developed into a full time midfielder? It would be great to have a big midfielder in the Fyfe/Kennedy/Watson/Pendlebury mould. Anyone have more info on what Curnow is like as a player and if this is realistic? -
He'd be a good get. Back in 2008 we wanted to draft him with our picks in the early 30s, but Brisbane pinched him from us a few picks earlier and we wound up with Bennell It would likely cost us a second rounder or a player and I think it'd be worth it. He is a solid midfielder, good inside ball winner and tackler. We need midfield depth and he'd add to that and be a far better option than most on our list.

Huge deal. 2.508 billion. I just hope the digital side gets made better. I want to be able to watch live on a computer and not have to resort to my iPhone.

If Harley is committed to footy and not living like a rockstar then he is well worth whatever can be offered to him. Potential top 5-10 player in the league and is already producing very good form since returning from his mishap. He'd be a great addition to our midfield if we can lure him. We still have a bottom 4 midfield, and while we have some young promising talent, it is just that, promise. We've been down that road before. We need to get proven gun midfielders into our team asap or we'll finish bottom 4-5 again next year and lose more players to better teams.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 20
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So Mcdonald and Tyson both injured at training. Final 22 to be announced later tonight. -
Would love to land Treloar but there's been no link to us publicly. If he is leaving GWS and coming home to Victoria then I'd hope the club has spoken to him and given him a good offer. He's a quality young midfielder who would slot into our team perfectly. He's in a good age bracket for us too, 22 years old and closing in on 100 games. He'd be at his peak in 3-4 years when hopefully we will be up the top end of the ladder challenging.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEX NEAL-BULLEN
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's great to see him hitting the scoreboard and contributing to the team so early in his career, but he's an inside midfielder. He's only playing up forward due to lack of fitness and to get him into the speed of the game. He'll build up strength and fitness and move into the midfield full time. We still need to find a competent small forward for when Garlett is gone or not in form. Kent might be that player, I don't think JKH is. I'm really excited by him. Got dropped, went back to the VFL and racked up 40 touches in the midfield. He's going to be a key player in our midfield for the next 10 years. It's a bonus he can take a strong grab and hit the scoreboard! -
All that article tells me is that there is enough momentum that they'd had to publicly acknowledge the interest and try to fan the flames. I wouldn't count us out yet.

Melbourne FC to 'target an A+ midfielder'.
Lord Travis replied to Demon 16's topic in Melbourne Demons
The system was changed for father son and academy picks. Have a read of this. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-05-21/new-bidding-system-introduced-for-fatherson-and-northern-academy-players Basically there won't be any freebies anymore. The Swans and other academy teams are going to have to come up with higher value picks to get their players. It could help us as they need high draft picks to get these elite kids in, so we could use our high pick to extract a good player from them. -
Good to hear he is on track. Hopefully he can get fit and become something close to what we hoped years ago. His first two years were outstanding and if he returns to his top form he is well within our best 22 running through the midfield and resting up forward with his strong overhead marking.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Lord Travis replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Prestia would be the best fit for us. One of the elite young midfield talents in the competition. To bring in a 22 year old who would immediately become our best midfielder and ball winner alongside Nathan Jones would be a huge plus. We'd have to give up a first round pick to get him. He was a pick 9 in 2010 who has proven to be worth that and more, with only Heppell from the top end of that draft being as good or better. We should go hard for him if there's even a tiny chance of getting him. As for Motlop, doubt he'll come to us. We'd have to give up a first round pick and I feel our pick 4+5 is too high. Second round pick and a player wouldn't cut it. We'd need to get another first round pick via a trade to get him and I don't think it's worth it. We should trade Howe for a first or second round pick IMO. He's inconsistent, doesn't have impact on games despite his physical attributes, therefore he's of limited value to us. We need to build a midfield for the future. Games are won and lost in the midfield and unfortunately ours is still bottom 4. Bringing in Petracca and Prestia if possibly immediately improves it in both the short term and long term. We need quality young mids!
