Sure the Pies had a bumper start to the season last year but they fell away at the end.

In reality they just snuck home with three iffy finals including the gf.

They beat us in a final by 7 points when we had an absolutely depleted fwd line and were a man down.

Just beat Gws by a point.

And we're lucky in the Gf with the soft advantage call and just snuck home again by a kick.

They were not a glorious flag team by any standard.

Look at our 21 finals campaign. That's how it's done.

Pies won't make top four and rightly so.

They're the second weakest premier of this century, only the Bulldogs of 2016 were weaker. Fact.

The pies won their 3 finals by a cumulative total of 12 points. That was with some extremely lucky umpiring decisions going their way. They started the season well but by the end they were a middle of the road team and were possibly the luckiest premiers in my lifetime. Zero chance of a "dynasty". Hopefully they crash and burn for the sake of all Australian society and the sport. Pathetic wretched scum.

  2. We're onto a winner. I thought we reached for type when we drafted him, but already I know I was wrong and he's going to be special. JT is a genius.

We drafted him due to his pace and ability to link up and hit targets going inside 50. He's shown that already. Love the bit of play on the weekend where he marked at HBF, field was stagnant ahead of him, he short passed to teammates towards corridor then ran on for handball receive bursting forward and kicking forward. Gained us about 80 metres out of a stagnant field and gave us the exact type of drive we lack from the back half.

He's also already showed glimpse that he's got elite potential on the inside. His ability to shrug and turn through tackles is great, and he's got quick strong hands. If he can add more strength to his upper body, he could become the most rounded midfielder we've got.

I'll get blasted for this, but most clear comparison player for me is Chris Judd as a youngster when he was more outside and pacy before his OP took away his burst and he moved more inside.

F&@$ I would love to get Robinson in a Room alone for 10 minutes. He is a pathetic little joke.

Nothing little about him. He is a big fat sweaty pink mess of a man. His opinion is worth as much as the next uneducated drunk at the local pub.

Glad Gus has a role at the club in the short term. His leadership and footy brain will be a big help to the players.

Tonight's game with Sydney playing it, and was like every other Sydney game played for the last twenty years.

Congest the game, form and scrum(or whatever they call it in rugby when they stop/start), then congest again, frustrate, and break if you can.

    Horrible to watch.

Were you watching the same game? The Swans were breaking into open space and hitting targets cleanly by foot all night. They have been for a while now. They're an attacking side who take it on off half back and are usually a good team to watch.

What you described is a Melbourne match under Goodwin; congested, defensive, low scoring and boring.

  5. Never in a million years would I want our supporters to become like Collingwood supporters. Bloke sitting in front of me at the final last year was possibly the most vile human I've ever encountered, and I've been robbed at knife point in Africa. When Gus was knocked out he was shouting to get up and hurry up, weak [censored], gy cnt, [censored], [censored]. Anything the censor filter on this site will block, he said with vitriol. I'm not sure I'll ever attend another game against Collingwood now. Horrible experience surrounded by the absolute dregs of society.

I'd rather complete silence than become like those pathetic scumbag losers.

As far as I'm concerned, there was no premier in 2023. I refuse to acknowledge that clubs existence. They will never hold respect, get endless advantages, never win on merit, and should be "cancelled".

Would you have preferred she overruled the Tribunal?

She said at the time the AFL were unhappy about it and has since made that action illegal.

Yep. She had an opportunity to show the AFL has a backbone and would take  players health more seriously etc. She failed. Maynard now has a premiership medal and a long career ahead of him while Angus is retired. The way she handled that incident was a poor start to her tenure. Anyone can say they're not happy, but actions speak louder than words. She took no action and didn't challenge the tribunal result either. Rules been changed since, but justice was not served.

Not to say she won't redeem herself and do valuable things in her GM role, but I don't see anything overly impressive yet.

  7. Nothing finer than watching Collingwood get belted. They were the second weakest premiers of this century behind Bulldogs 2016.

A shame that neanderthal Maynard made it through the match unscathed. I wish nothing but ill upon him.

  8. Just goes to show preseason matches are completely and utterly irrelevant. We belted Carlton last week. They come out next week in the real stuff and best Brisbane up at the gabba. We come out and roll over to the Swans.

Weren’t we into Acres at one point? Solid winger can take a great mark.

Probably, but never realistically in the picture for whatever reason. That trade was baffling and has to be draft tampering. Carlton gave up a future third round pick for Acres, who had just been Freos best player in the finals before exit. He's a good footballer and has toweled us up a few times now.

Jefferson to kick 10 and force his way in I'm hearing

Going to be hard playing from the back pocket!

Our drafting and player development has been much improved this past decade, but we still haven't developed a capable marking key forward since the 2000s. I hope this was a short term lesson for Jefferson and not a plan to try turning him into a defender when we're crying out for a key forward and burnt a first round pick on him.

Salem in the midfield hasn't seem to have been as good as I thought

We tried it 2017-2018 and it didn't work. Looked good in one preseason match, but he's not a natural midfielder. He's not blessed with strong endurance and not great around packs unless he's hitting it front on. With Bowey out for a while you'd think, Salem back to HBF.
