I'm far from a renowned forecaster dazzle but from my observations it will be better this arvo!

Agree, will be a bit less [censored]

  2. Just got a text message from the clowns at AFLNT, last year there were ridiculous lines to get into the ground, this year they have closed one of the two gates to enter due to the rain!

Oh yeah, they have also let us know that we can’t take umbrellas!!

Why not. Sounds like someone's been telling porkies about the weather up there. Speaking of pork , have some bacon for me. Stick it to our cardiologists.

    Porkies?

    Really?

The forecast is for 8 degrees tommorow. Low of 5, top of 8. What the?

Forget Alice Springs locals, that would turn off a lot of Melbourne residents.

I can't ever recall going to the footy for a day game that cold. Maybe one game at tge g when we came back from a huge 3/4 time deficit to win in one of our bleak years ' maybe 15 years ago.

RGRS, how well does traeger Park drain?

Forecast is for 5-15mm there today and 0-5mm tommorow morning.

Hopefully it's not cold AND wet.

7.3degrees here now, feels like 2.2 according to the app. In almost a decade here, today is the worst I have experienced.

As for drainage, I can’t say, but rain hasn’t been heavy enough, so I expect it to be slippery but not really wet.

I will try get to training session and report from there.

Anyone at training, I will have heavy demon’s jacket with big MFC on back, with two kids, boy 9, girl in glasses 13, my name is Dave, introduce yourselves please

on a side note, until today, I have never worn the jacket during the day in Alice

Is anyone else here a naive [censored] like me that is surprised it's so cold in Alice? Honestly thought the place was hot all year round.

Mate, it can get below zero at night in winter, but days are normally sunny and 20+ degrees.

The coldest ever recorded high in Alice is 7 degrees, we could match that today. I suspect we will have a very poor crowd as the weather is a huge turn off for locals.

So cold up here it’s ridiculous and the forecast only gets worse…

Open clinic then training session Saturday for those that are here:

For those that want a special experience, head out to Santa Teresa (about an hour drive on road that goes past airport, 50km of dirt but can easily do in a 2wd for a 2.30 pm start at the grass oval there.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO SANTA TERESA IN THIS WEATHER

Heading up to Alice tomorrow, we had booked 2 nights at Ross River Resort but a phone call from them yesterday advised against coming due to the rapid rise of the Ross River quote "you may get in but you may not get out". So 5 nights in Alice pre game. Also we booked tickets on the Hill from the club for $249 a throw, and was disappointed to see that the AFL are advertising the same tickets for $180. not sure if the club is adding the extra $70 as a fund raiser.  But have asked the club to explain the difference.

    Head out toWest Macs instead.

not sure what drainage of oval is like, three days of consecutive rain in the footy season is extremely rare, so don’t expect it to be a problem (am expecting less rain to hit town than forecast), but …

Yes WWS Roos Camels, Donkeys apparently pretty feral after sunset, mind you I actually never saw any road kill between Uluṟu and Alice??

Most road kill happens when it’s been very dry out here, in those times you can see a great deal.

This year not so much of a problem, though definitely take care of driving at night

For all those coming to Alice, don’t expect a great nights sleep on the Saturday night.

July 1st is Territory day, the one day a year that firework ms are legal, they sell like hotcakes all day and go off through the night.

to call it a bit crazy is an understatement!

For those staying in the CBD area, well worth a walk up ANZAC hill to watch the madness unfold

Who's brilliant idea was it to play AFL footy in the middle of the desert watched by 5 people 26 dingos and 300 bluetongue lizards?

Im assuming we do it for a suitcase full of cash.  Probably tax exempt too.

It’s a brilliant game, in a wonderful setting and often sold out.

BTW, sightings of Lungkatta are not too common out here

Thanks @Rod Grinter Riot Squad and all the rest of you for your answers and advice/info.

I now have a number of ideas to research and consider.

One more question. What is the best/ safest/ cleanest caravan park in town. I have a very mature 14 year old young lady making her first road trip with me so facilities and ambience are an important consideration.

I would recommend Discovery Parks, 15-20 minute walk to game, it’s just out of town, but nothing in town is far

Yes.... but I'm towing a camper van that is suitable only for moderate off road.

If you are staying at one of the campgrounds south of the gap, we should have a few at the Alice Springs Brewery, a popular local…

Consider a day trip without trailer to Chmabers Pllar, or to the East Mac’s.

Another day trip without the trailer would be palm valley.

Returning home, I would strongly suggest a trip to the West Mac’s, a stunning place, stay at Glen Helen the drive the Mereenie loop to Kings Canyon, doing the hike around the canyon.

Both of these places are brilliant and the trailer should have no issues with the loop.

From the canyon, head to Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa for a few days before heading back south.

Just a few suggestions for you, there’s a heap you can do out here, just depends on your timeframe.
