Interesting. Respect your opinion as always Redleg, and I've been toying with this thought since I took him in UF this year and he's done nothing for me. But I do keep going back to what I thought of him last year (before he got hurt) and the year or two before when he was the flying meatball. Gets his own ball, but is punishing on the outside with a 60 metre dart put wherever he wants it. AND he's smart. For me it's a little too easy right now to say he's surplus to needs, with all our exciting young midfielders. After Vince and Jones decline, we have, in terms of blue chip, Olly, Petracca, Braysh, Viney, Tyson... I think maybe Salem too if he gets a bit bigger and harder. Maybe ANB at a stretch. But that's it. I reckon we need 6 really good seasoned hard at it mids who do the lot, supported by new kids and other forward-cum midfielders. One or two of those names mentioned might fall by the wayside between now and whe we're threatening (I'm looking at you Braysh)... so I dunno... I think if you can get a blue chip guy, you get him. Mostly, I saw pace smash us at home last week and away against Saints. Prestia is really good solid useable pace. I would agree though that a more glaring need is KP defender. Good post though all the same.

I think it every time he gets the ball, because I want him to kick it to someone he has a rapport with. Anyone who's played any kind of sport where you pass a ball, you know it takes often years to know your team mate and how they like it delivered. And thing about Harmes is he can kick any style of kick you need. Not sure it's a bad thing if he is Hogan-centric, but must say I hadn't noticed him looking to him any more than the other 20?

Yeah fair enough. I think in the years between now and when weed comes in he's going to be important. Just that consistency though. He has to offer a contest even when he's not "on". Like hogan has been. Oooh. Yeah. I will say though that I was always on him from his first game. Was just wanting to see him fit. I won't say I saw quite the level of dominance in him he has now, but always thought it was just a little bit of luck body wise and he was a certainty. So I sort of saw him coming a bit. Unlike Jamar who was the only player I ever said would never ever make it. Lol

Have we had the easiest draw? (Rds 1 - 7)
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah. I think we're both similar there. If demons get smashed, your view will change... and for me if we beat the dogs, I'm gonna find it hard keeping the lid on. -
Come on G. Keep up. Jamar did it in one season. Was just some guy, wouldn't have gotten a game on any other list. Then in 2010, boom, All Australian. That's a short time. There's some facts you seem to ignore too. And Pedo is nowhere near All Australian. Like I say, not a slight on Pedo. I love the guy and have always thought he had way more talent than a huge amount of guys in his draft year. Just saying there's guys out there, like Jamar, who had almighty leaps noone saw coming that make Pedo's look tiny. No need to get huffy. Just keeping you honest.

Jeez just had a look at our draw. Screw the maths it's gonna be tough. Only sure wins for me in the next 8 games are lions, pies (maybe) and freo (maybe). Dogs, port (have improved heaps), Hawks, sydney away, Adelaide (home). Ouch. -
Yeah. Just a midsection, beard and smile. the best thing about that would be that I'm absolutely certain he'd approve. Seems like just his sense of humour.

Have we had the easiest draw? (Rds 1 - 7)
Dappa Dan replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nup. Every year they say this same stuff. The teams on top generally have an easier draw than the ones on the bottom, with a few exceptions. It's stats at its worst. After round 1, for example, GWS were among the "easy beats" of the comp cos they hadn't won a game. Now look at them. Plus it doesn't take into account who turns up on any given day. Essendon have been smacked in their games this year, but on the week they met us, they were far from the worst side in the comp. I just use my eyes these days. The North game they were breathing fire. GC game they stayed with us for a half. Saints probably played their best footy of the year against us. Tigers were putrid, we should have won by 60, and would have had we turned up like we did against North. The games I'm interested in are the ones against sides that END the year in top 8. As well as, of course, teams we played while they were in top form. Pies game and Toiges game... I think they weren't anything to write home about. Pleased to win, but they were disgusting on those days. It's when teams are flying that you find out things. Who still stands up. Viney is a great example of a guy who plays well regardless of competition. I want to see THOSE sorts of performances against, say, 2016 cats at Simmonds. Hawks later in the year as they ramp up for finals. Sydney anywhere. Adelaide anywhere. Also the Port game we'll learn a lot. -
Yup. This is what makes Hogan so important. He's a power forward that makes other forwards around him better. A Jenkins/Gawn tandem would be pretty great, but I feel like Hogan with Watts and Weed there, and Gawn chipping in, they can create a home grown forward that we can do the reverse Jenkins with. We don't need to recruit one. We have our own Lynch/Tex tandem now that can make a good player out of a previously average one. Keep him in the team until someone comes knocking on the door, and then trade him. I think Vanders will actually take that extra tall spot (not that tall, I know) in the meantime.
-
I'm not saying I would have it any other way. lol
-
You said improvememt over one season. Jamar was a joke for years, then went bang, All Australian. Makes sense to me. Pedo was pretty meh with some flashy moments. Now he's better than ok with some flashy moments. Not All Australian. Still the third tall/ruck option. Played a few bad games this season too. I love him, but calm down.

Mark Jamar says hi.

This team is ridiculously hard to make right now. I don't know how we fit Newton, ANB, Vanders in. It's starting to get depressing knowing that we have to turn over a bunch of players at season's end who actually are alright. JKH I had in my 22 at the start of last season. Now he's probably not top30.
-
About the 6th big time recruiting coup by the club. I've never been more impressed. Meanwhile our recruiter's old club is falling apart. Oliver vs Parrish I have Oliver just ahead. I think over both players' careers? Oliver's basic package on his worst day is startling. Parrish just very good.
-
Will be the most welcomed 9th in history... PS, anything about 11th means the future pick trade made last year for Oliver and Weed is a success. Turning a pick 6 and a pick 10 (possibly later) into picks 3 and 7... getting us the players we got too. Could be our Emmit Smith moment.
-
Love it. I reckon we should all put our failed write offs in our avatars to the left, among our "favourite players" as a badge of dishonour. I've stuck my neck out on two guys who I said I was certain would be great footballers. Frawley and Trengove. Wrote off one guy ever, Jamar, who went on to AA the next year. lol This year I've added about 6 to the "I'm sure they'll be guns" list. Back onto Hunt... I didn't see it at first (much like I needed a couple of weeks with Wagner) but I sure do now. Amazing lengthy stride...
-
Yeah. Long telescopic arms. I wonder what Weed's height is compared to him? Lovely pretty kicking action too, though his kicking was a slight knock from memory out of his draft.
-
Taller I think. I'm hoping a shorter Lobb. Maybe a Scotty Lucas type (not the left foot part, the rangy CHF long kick part). That is of course wishful thinking. I've been hoping for a Scotty Lucas since... well... Scotty Lucas.

Pleased with Eagles, but just because I liked the tape on Wentz. As I said earlier, Gorgo, you and I will be at each other for years on Goff/Wentz watch. And as I said, I think Goff has a neater NFL ready throw. Otherwise, not a great or even interesting draft at all by Eagles. While Wentz learns the ropes Eagles will be lucky to go 6-10. Will hand a top 4 pick to Browns next year. Then Wentz will be starter, and we'll go into 2018 with only one second rounder missing. Fine by me. Rebuild time.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 7

Yeah. I imagine he'll stay in though. We know Roos doesn't like to mess with a winning team. Then again, after that, who could blame him. -
Is Petracca tradeable at the end of the year?

How many other players get given chances? Senior player or not, he's played plenty of strong footy. Certainly more than some other KP defenders. And I just think one bad week is wearable. We need him. OK. Well. I wrote all that before tonight. Whoa. He won't come in against Dogs. No one to play on.
