It's amazing how 2 wins (Freo + Bris) can represent so much, compared to a year like, say, 2005 where we just scraped in.... Perhaps it's just the lack of enjoyment that makes us savour it more. I like to think it's the fact we saw some of the future having a dip.

How good was paul johnsons run down!!
Dappa Dan replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's a CORKER Arem... Though the faces are a bit confusing... Sherman looks like he's diseased... and PJ looks a bit like he's about to say "Maaate, you are GAAAAAWN!"... GREAT pic though. For demons fans that's the equivalent to seeing the Shaun Smith pic... Just makes you remember fondly the following action. I was on the other side of the ground, I couldn't have been further away from him unless I went a few rows back... And the section I was in stood up... That's how good it was. PJ has earned some fans with this single action. Up there with his SCG heroics... -
Harsh on Bate I thought. He had a bad 3rd quarter but was solid otherwise... and his last 5 minutes netted 2 inside fifties...
-
Was at ground level today and saw him sail over the top of a pack in the dying minutes for a ruck tap out... The guy's leap is something else. Gets so much air... If only he could use it when going for the pack marks more, like he did in his first 10 or 15 matches...

Valenti: Had me concerned. From my angle he seemed a little flat footed at times. When he has it, and has enough space I reckon he uses it ok... but at that size he won't take too many clean marks, and won't get a lot of space because he's not searingly quick... He had to rely on free kicks, of which he'll get a few but probably not enough to be meaningful. What I LOVE is his decision-making... The execution is there, but it's more his choices that make me smile. I'm prepared to give him more time but I think he needs to find a yard or two... I wish I could put his head in CJ or Buckley's bodies... Though those guys go ok looking at today. Martin: Started strongly. Inspiring mark. Looked a LITTLE bit lost, but we all expected him to be. I thought he didn't let us down. Works hard, and at this stage that's all you could ask. May get a game next week... But I was thrilled that he's gotten that taste even if he does get dropped. Bode: I actually saw some things I liked. Seemed to play accountably. He's not brilliant, and not a possession winner that'll hurt other sides... but he was, at least, hard at it. Don't know who he played on...

I'm reviewing mine... Putting in Bate for a vote. He was solid all day, and was the man putting it inside fifty the last couple of times...

And the MFC leading goalkicker for 2008 is......
Dappa Dan replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm gonna say 33.... Closest to the pin? Oh, and Miller and Sylvia are going to trouble him on today's effort... Maybe Bate too. -
Bloody FREEZING. Only drizzled for a few seconds here and there thankfully. I'm just glad that 20,000 and then 23,000 faithful supporters got to come and see the dees play two of the finest wins I've ever seen in the Freo game and Brissy game...

He's enormous. The size of a Giraffe, only wider... Watching Mitch Clark, who is a high draft pick and is highly rated, and then comparing him to Stef I was really excited. Obviously it's a different job in a VERY different side (No Brown or Bradshaw playing at MFC), but I was encouraged by Stef. Long way to go yet, but he didn't let us down...

Extraordinary news... He has bruising on the brain, and is in a medically induced coma after being hit by a tram. As a club and supporter group we know how tragedy feels all too well, and while I'm thankful he's alive I'm shocked and shaken that he will certainly not play again this year and may not play ever again. All the best to Graham and his family, and fingers crossed that is released from hospital sooner rather than later.

6: CJ - I thought CJ was superb by foot today in general. A bit of a "stats" winner here, but I thought he was among our most damaging. 5: Green - Just give him the Bluey. 4: Sylvia - Was the most imposing forward... Lost count of his marks inside fifty, and he had 15+ touches to boot. 3: Miller - Not the complete game, but won the match nonetheless. 2: Whelan - Gee we've missed him. Can't understand the retirement talk. 1: Wheatley - Was very very good. Honourable mentions for Jamar who worked really hard... Dunn who earned his place... and Bruce who was solid, if not damaging or spectacular.

Did Anyone relised we watched the future today?
Dappa Dan replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes and no... At the start of the third quarter, the top 5 possession winners were as follows: CJ, Green, Wheatley, Bruce and Whelan... Now, of those only Cj is what you would call "youth." That said, how often does a young side play like that and have the top 5 possession winners UNDER 25? If we were doing that we'd be the Eagles circa 2005. What I loved were the small things... Jamar getting more and more solid, PJs improvement and chasedown, Sylvia looking genuinely imposing, Buckley and CJ making our backline look like one to fear (Buckey is ENORMOUS), And Miller is still only 24... I counted almost no losers among our 22. -
Oh my gooooooooooooooood....
-
Agree with the fact he did a good job on Black... but Simon still had 20+ touches and 10 clearances... Still... Probably as good as can be expected... There's about 6-8 young guys that have all but cemented spots in the 22 who weren't in there at the start of the year.... CJ, PJ, Buckley, Dunn, Morton, Garland, Warnock, Wonna etc etc
-
I was WAY too close to the action to be able to tell who ANYONE was on unless they were in the pocket... and even then only for 2 quarters... Did Dunn and Bode have jobs again today? I realise neither had much impact, which is why I reckon perhaps that was just because they were running with other players... Anybody have better eyes than me?
-
23,000+ in the end... That's ok...
-
I wanted him to just drill it from 60... Had he it might have dribbled through... Was a weird feeling... But I tell you what I didn't know what to think when he kicked it out on the full a few minutes earlier...

The excitement of a 1 point win!!
Dappa Dan replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
What the hell is going on at demonland? I know we're all a bunch of horny teenagers, but.... I was sitting in the third row, looking at the same angle as Wonna when he sprayed that ball and put it out on the full... I thought that was it! I had NO idea there was another 3 or so minutes left. -
That's not the first time I've heard the kids (on the list) singing the praises of Yze... Perhaps not a HUGE surprise... Yze was/is a damaging forward, and that seems to be Maric's future...
-
Look who's back....
-
Ummm.... Yes. But certainly getting there. I had Sylvia, CJ, Bruce, Green, Whelan and Wheatley ahead of him, but he DID play a very good game. He's on the way is young Brad. To where? I don't know, but at least he's not heading for the scrapheap like we all thought... well... MOST of us thought, Jaded...
-
Couldn't disagree more. Thought he delivered superbly in all but one bad clanger... I know people say this a lot... but CJ = Has arrived. And not a moment too soon. I ha him written off. Boy am I ever eating humble pie.

How good was paul johnsons run down!!
Dappa Dan replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is EXACTLY why I like the guy... mobile ruckman = gold dust. He may have had a quiet day, especially in the first half, but stuff like that lifts you... At the end of the game I was high-fiving the players at the boundary... I high-fived him and yelled at him great chase... And my hand is still throbbing. Oh, and did you notice Sherman was run down by Jamar as well? So much for trading for him... -
occo: The anti-supporter... If you haven't figured out yet that getting a #1 pick (as opposed to a #2 or #3) does NOT win you flags then you have no hope at all... Getting more than 4 wins? Fair enough... That would lose us a third top 20 pick and THAT hurts (as well as a shot at a priority NEXT year). But in case you haven't noticed occo.... WE HAVEN'T WON 4 GAMES YET!!!
