  1. Yeah, I put Flash's left foot a smidge ahead of Green's. Special mention to the Ooze. Probably a notch or two below both these guys, but in his day (which didn't last all that long) he was, at times, a stunning left boot.

    Rivers

Bizarre. I thought he was, at certain points, right back to his best. Your general criticisms may turn out to be right, but then this is hardly news. And wouldn't it have made sense to bring it up after one of his bad games? Odd.
  3. I went down to the rooms after the game for the first time, and noticed Chip had a bit of a black eye with a scrape down his cheek. I presume, of course, that it came from the same incident that caused the blood rule in the first quarter... I think it was Leroy Jetta, who Chip had attempted to spoil, who had rolled over and pretty much shoved his boot stops into Chip's face. Nobody got upset, or started a fight, which is why it may have gone under the radar. But from my view of the screen, it looked like it was deliberate for sure. Anybody else see this and care to comment?
  4. Here's a good poll topic over the next couple of days... Which game had worse umpiring? The last one or the Pies one from round 2? I can't split them.
  5. Most of the Bruce bashing has been ridiculous, so I reckon it's only fair for his supporters to be a bit overzealous to even things out. His first 15 minutes were like the Rivers of old. He doesn't need to be quick when the opposition seem to pick him out of a crowd of their own players over and over. What's ****ing expected is for his fans to show him some respect for his 200 games of superb service. Clown.
  6. Yup. And for every tackle he misses, he lays a big one I reckon. Also, when we recruited he and Scully people said over and over how great Scully's hands were. Trengove has surprised the hell out of me with how he delivers the ball by hand when under duress. Given how good he is at this, maybe he's guilty of having a more "receiver" mentality. In other words, when in a pack, or just on the outside of one, maybe he's pre-occupied with what he'll do when he gets the ball (who he passes off to), instead of what he'll do when the opposition gets the ball (which player he'll tackle, and how).
  7. I would have thought Jamar could go it alone, in order to bring in Bail. When (not if) we run out of legs on that ground, we'll regret not having more legs, no matter how many we have.
  8. Ooops... I started a Green thread of my own. Mods please combine, and delete this post. Thanks!
  9. Wow. He's had more touches in other games, but I can't say I've seen a player play so well in defence AND attack, along with kicking five (his personal best), whilst clearing the ball from the backline over and over. He was everywhere... He's now =7th in the Coleman, and had he kicked those other two today, he'd be in the top 5. Could he be All Australian? Before you say "his team has lost too many games," consider the fact that about half the top ten players in the Coleman race belong to teams outside the 8. A great season from a player who continues to surprise many who believed he'd never be more than a flashy, soft outsider. And while AA may be out of his reach now, who knows? With a relatively good run home he might be in calculations, and I reckon deserves to be in the 40 man squad.
  10. Was an improved game. Which is not saying much. He got to plenty of contests given a small amount of game time, just flubbed everything he got his hands to. He also got his hands to the ball in ruck contests more than I expected. He just doesn't know where to put it, or what to do once the ruck contest is finished. He just stands there watching the action unfold... and being so big he finds people pick him out with a relieving handball... at which time he's flat footed, and he gets tackled. I feel like we may end up going into next week with the same 22, which I reckon is a healthy thing to do with a young developing list. Having said that, the Subi factor might come into it, and they may feel like they need the extra legs.
  11. Cracking return to form, joeboy. And will we hear about it? No we will not. Not the worst game he's ever played. Having said that, if there was any pressure from another ruckman, or if we'd lost and were looking for a scapegoat, he'd be the one. Probably in our worst three players on the day. In his defence, he doesn't get a whole lot of game time, and he did get a few handy looking ruck taps... just directed ALL of them to opponents!!! Deserves a little more credit I think. And not for the two cheapies he picked up. He looked to be running more freely than he did late last year, I thought. But gee he is a little rusty. Kicking wasn't great, a couple of bad options he chose, and didn't seem to back his leap. ALl of this will come in time, and if you're going to have a warm up game, it's nice to kick a couple to get the confidence up. So what you're saying is, they were important. :D Did you see that play in the pocket, I think in the second term? He got what looked like a 50/50 ball, then burnt off two guys. I was sitting in that pocket and I was sure he'd have a shot, but I think he passed it off and we turned it over. You're right, he has the pace... Maybe not the fitness yet. I reckon maybe he just has to get some confidence in using it. When he tilts forwards and goes hammer and tongs he leaves guys behind him.
  12. Says it all. The umpires gave us half a dozen goals, they played appallingly at times, and couldn't kick straight all day. Had any one of those three things gone the other way, we'd have lost I reckon. Yeah, see, now you're getting a case of the rose-coloured glasses again. Watts kicked one goal from a non-free. He made ok position a few times, maybe laid a tackle or two that were ok, but he was beaten on the day. Not humiliated, certainly, but beaten. One thing he certainly wasn't, was "good."
  13. He's done his quad, so I hear...
  14. Hmmm. Great, yes. But also small. A minnow in comparison to other clubs. I think we're great in the world I occupy because we've been around a while and have a rich history, and can foster talent and great young men who go on to be great older men like Jimmy. But the greatness or non-greatness has nothing to do with supporting them. To say you couldn't continue financially supporting the club if you didn't believe they were "great" is of a bit of concern to me. I hope it doesn't represent the vast majority of supporters who are forking over their hard earned to keep us afloat. I support us because I would like to see us return to greatness, and I'd be proud to be a small part of that... not because we ARE great. I have a sneaking suspicion that's what you meant anyway... We've won 12 VFL cups. No AFL cups. (I don't mean to diminish the effort, as we enjoyed a period of dominance unrivalled by ANY club in the history of the game... Besides maybe Port in the SANFL.) What's "real" about what Hannabal said is that if you ask any real footy head, or football figure from OUTSIDE MFC, they would say our achievements over the past 40 years haven't been "great" at all. Next to Richmond of the past 30 years, they've been the worst of any club pretty much. Even the Pies who only won one have built themselves into a dominant and rich club. Freo are too young. Bulldogs won one in that time. Saints are a financially sound club and are teetering on a second flag opportunity. No reason to shoot the messenger. He may be looking at the glass half empty but the simple fact is, he's right. We WERE great. We could be great again. But we're not right now.
  15. I reckon it's just a simple backup plan. If the unthinkable happened to Jamar, then sure, he'd come in. But I wouldn't be holding my breath. I have a feeling Maric will be unlucky again. PJ of course and then Jurrah will have one more game in the VFL. Sylvia to come in as an extra forward option, for the omission of Spencer. And Bail for Grimes. Easy Peasy, Japanesy.
  16. I saw that photo on someone else's computer from a distance, and I was dead-set sure it was Frawley. What are they feeding this kid?
  17. Gee do they ever. Even the panel went all coy, I had a close look at their faces and I reckon even they were a bit nervous. That may have been the most compelling footage on the footy show all year. Buggered if I know why. He didn't have any huge news for us. I thought maybe they'd announce a presidency replacement or something. I think it's already named after Ron Evans isn't it?
  18. Still very, very, VERY important. Those 3 potential stars will be wasted if they don't have the side around them. eg, Rooke may be no superstar, but I wonder what would have happened to the Cats if he wasn't there? Oh. And while we're at it, who are your three? Trengove, Frawley and Scully? Maybe Watts for Scully?
  19. How good is it? I think he's the only player I've ever seen hold the jumper in that way.
  20. Easy there rocket. Every one of us (that's been here since when this thread started) has made half-a-dozen poor calls. If we're gonna be dredging up the past, I reckon Jamar would have humiliated over 50% of regular posters. And those that had confidence in him are likely the ones that see a future for EVERY listed player, even the Weetras of this world. With PJ you'd think the Mark-Jamar-cautionary-tale might have changed the way people think and post, giving them a few moments' pause. What's that saying? Hindsight is always 20/20?
  21. True, but when I saw his name mentioned I must admit I thought then this'd be the last time I visit this thread. The Bruce bashing on here is a disgrace to this site. It makes no difference whether or not people or mods even agree, the point is he deserves a lot more respect than he gets. A WHOLE lot more. Gutless keyboard heroes on here. If I could I'd give the ringleaders a month off.
  22. Yeah. That's one thing that's hurting them as time goes on, that SO much hinges on the Ablett thing. I reckon you're right, the fact that everyone around him is signing at their original clubs shows perhaps that the money they're getting isn't all i's cracked up to be, ad that Ablett may have already cleared off with the biggest piece of the pie. Interesting times. PS... How much do we all love Ricky right now? One of the most important signings of the last 5 or so years for mine. Probably the happiest I've felt that we retained a player since the time Ooze was on the move to the Blues. (That should probably make me nervous, but it doesn't).
  23. It was the "good authority" you mentioned that had it wrong.
  24. If Robbo isn't set up for a few grabs I'll be [censored]. He's still in good shape and is playing. Could have been playing this year.
  25. It just feels to me like he's going to have a huge breakout game at the same time Watts does. We'll probably only win 2-3 more games for the year on current form... Jordie's going to end up being under-rated his whole career methinks.
