Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains
Dappa Dan replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think that was my problem with it. I'll get behind both, and both are fantastic 10+ year demon footballers, and they're right, you couldn't split them... All the same... I hate co-captains as a rule. PS... Apparently Trengove is the youngest full time captain in the history of the AFL. Wow. -
Indian's should be ashamed. But won't be. This arogance will be a cancer on the team for 20 years before someone in their inner sanctum realises they've gone and wounded their cricket culture with sugar-cricket. Going to take a long time to fix it, and in that time, other test naions will reap the benefits... Couldn't happen to a more smug bunch of knowitalls. Doni, Sehwag and even Tendulkar at times... individual cricketers beaten regularly by good teams. They held the #1 rankings for 3 months in total in this "golden era" for them. I smile to think of Ganguly watching this. What a laugh. Bring on the British, the Ashes, and real cricket.

Disappointing yes, but better than the G-girls. I saw both games in their entirety. Eli isn't Peyton, isn't even in the top 5 QBs going round, but has a 50-50 chance of ending his career with 1+ more superbowl rings than him. Still. One of the better things about the NFL, the fact anything can happen, and generally does. And I would say that, yes, they were worse. Going into the season they were a top 4 side and one many favoured to knock off the Packers (dream team ring any bells). In the end they were done by mid season... Whereas the Pack were always a top 2 side, and they MADE the playoffs.

Training - Wednesday 25th January, 2012
Dappa Dan replied to DirtyDees DDC's topic in Melbourne Demons
Garland on the wing? His best work is going back with the flight. I was thinking Grimes to the wing actually, if anything... Then I realised... I'd rather Grimes kicking out of defence than inside fifty. Garland's a very good kick, and could be utilised more in this way. -
He could kick straight. Crap thing is he was a CHF playing FF the whole time.

Yup. Eagles were given so much crap all year. We hammered these guys once, and narrowly lost the other time. One measly game from winning the division... and these lucky breaks go all the way? Kill me if they win the lot.

How good were the Giants players giving Rodgers the discount doublecheck every time he got sacked. How do the yanks do that... make mediocre gags look funny. Sportcentre's been doing it for years.

Ronald Dale Barassi leaves the Dees for Carlton
Dappa Dan replied to nutbean's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't exactly say Johnson and Mclean are a balance for Ronald Dale... -
I rated him... but when it comes to taking on new head coaches, it's in for a penny, in for a pound. We can't put Needleman in control and then tell him what to do and who to work with. As Malthouse said, it takes five years to assemble the coaching panel you need around you. So it's good to see him starting early.

Green bay AND the Saints not in the Championship game? Wow... How strong is the NFC this year. It's a shame one fo the two didn't make it through, the Giants don't deserve it at all, Green Bay handed them the game. Would love to see 49ers go to the Superbowl. They play with heart. But how gooddo the Pats look. Rumbling.

Bailey's always left me entertained... and look what happened there?

Narrowing in on either Grimes or Trengove for Captain
Dappa Dan replied to mdemonski2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Aaah the old Grimes for captain malarkey again. Frawley would be my pick. Who will get the job? Probably Green again. -
Agree with all of that DL7.
-
Shame, because he's one of the few that is actually listened to by the masses, and has a voice both in print and TV. There are others like Whateley that are awesome, but because of their educated and reasonable attitude, and respectable journalistic integrity, they are largely ignored. Hopefully one of these ones can step into the void. Lord knows if we have to put up with Robinson the sport will be worse off for it.
-
We got nothing. They'll use injuries as an excuse, but I think they're a bottom 10 side. Maybe even bottom 6. A lot of other apparently crap teams, with as easy a draw as the eagles have had, would have racked up as many wins as the Eagles, or more. And if Tebow can get the Broncos up, but Vick can't, that says a lot about the quality of the DC and OC, as well as the team in general. Awful.

Yikes. Now season's officially over. I don't know how that works, that it was over 6 weeks ago, but somehow they were still a chance. Fire sale at Philly... Jackson, Rodgers-Cromartie, Reid... Rollins and Howard from the Phillies... Going cheap.
-
You're kidding yourself if you think we have any more than about 6 likely certainties. And you're kidding yourself if you think we'll suddenly magically NOT be pushed off the ball next year. Only GWS and GC... and maybe North and Richmond will be out [censored]. Take a look at the Pies game from last year, then try and tell me that one pre-season under a new coach and panel will make me out of those boys.

H wanted him? Well jeez... High praise. The more I think about it the more I think it's sensible, especially in the light of the Clarke thing. I reckon all year we were screaming out for a decent bustling KP forward. We had dribs and drabs from Jamar. And for a few fleeting moments, Watts. But neither of those two, or Green, or Jurrah have become a big contest causing forward. In truth, we weren't missing one big forward, we were missing 2, probably 3. One guy in Clarke may not cut it. So get a few. Nothing wrong with that. Some years you look at your needs and you think, whatever happens, at least we have that small forward problem licked... and then they go and draft 4 small forwards. You wonder about the reasoning, then you see them develop into a predetermined gameplan that you weren't privvy to, and voila. In that sense, I think if they were so keen to get this guy, there must be some big plan involving a buckload of height. And that's exciting... I reckon. -
By the way Nuggets, how can you NOT have any wild enthusiasm for the Pack at the moment? I gotta say if my tea were playing like them I'd be going off my tree. Or the niners for that matter.

If Young had screwed up badly, the Eagles would play Vick. They do have a tendency to lean on him. Reid's mancrush on him is intense. And it's fair enough too. The losses we've had have not been his fault by any stretch. Thing with Young, he'll throw an Int for every TD he drives you to. With a defence allowing only 29 yards rushing, and only giving up 10 points... that's better than any NFL team's average... on both counts.... by a mile. ANY quarterback would win. Vick would have won by a lot more. I'll take Vick at 80% over Young. But then, Young at 100% and with a LOT of confidence out of that game would be better than a winged Vick. Give me until the second half of the game I might change my tune. Especially with our secondary leaking big plays to Brady. Meh. Why are we talking about Eagles? They don't deserve any attention.
