  1. Can't disagree with that anymore. I think his defensive efforts really lack... He's shown he uses the ball okay, and can get plenty of it, but for a defender he's not accountable enough... That's why he's been in and out of the side, I have no doubt. He's had some bags kicked on him this year, Lockyer gave him a bath in round 2. Really needs to work on this aspect of his game...
  2. To start with, your draftees get the standard 2 year contract when they're drafted. So that wouldn't be front ended, as it would be the minimum contract. Secondly, front ending contracts doesn't matter if a player is proven or not... The club and the player's manager would negotiate a deal, for the player to be paid amount X over Y years. Generally this would be negotiated at the amount paid per season. Say 200k plus incentives, or whatever it is... Front ending the contract simply brings forward some of the base from the later years of the contract, pays the player early. So essentially, players on the higher salaries will be front ended to a greater degree one would imagine, but there's no reason any player couldn't have their 2nd contract with the club front ended.
  3. he'd actually been scoring well this year for a ruckman... got 100 against the saints, 60 odd against the pies... there aren't many ruckman who score well... and lets hope Russian isn't out long for the sake of the MFC, and not just some SC teams...
  4. As far as Jack goes, school holidays start on Friday, so I think he'll go to Brisbane... As for Clint, I just think Dunn can do just as good a job tagging, yet he can use the ball far better. That and Stanton still had 27 posessions, so it wasn't like he didn't get near the footy. Also has the flexability of going forward.
  5. I really want to see some changes after our extremely poor performance on Friday night... Out: Robertson, Miller, Cheney, Bartram, Whelan, In: Newton, Warnock, Dunn, Jones, McDonald/Maric B: James Frawley, Matthew Warnock, Jamie Bennell HB: Aaron Davey, Jared Rivers, Jack Grimes C: Brad Green, Brock McLean, Cameron Bruce HF: Lynden Dunn, Stefan Martin, Matthew Bate F: Neville Jetta, Michael Newton, Liam Jurrah Foll: Paul Johnson, Brent Moloney, Colin Sylvia I/C: Nathan Jones, Cale Morton, Jack Watts, McDonald/Maric McDonald comes in if he's fit, otherwise Maric gets another run...
  6. The thing with Stef is that he's already a competant defender... I don't think he needs to learn too much more down there to be a good backman for us... Obviously he'd get better at things like running off his man and attacking with more practice down there, but we've got others like Chip who can do that... He won't lose what he's got there by playing in other positions. If he's going to be a forward, then he needs to get lots of practice down there. He's shown us how agile he is, kicking two fantastic goals for Melbourne, with limited time down forward. Ideally he plays down forward for most of a game, with stints in the ruck if required.
  7. i believe if you qualify for a priority pick, you jump ahead of the gold coast... the gold coast, don't have a "priority pick" they have the number one pick... so lets say heaven forbid we only win 4 or less this year, and 4 or less next season, and we finish on the bottom in both, and assuming no other teams qualify for a priority pick, we would get picks 1&2 this year and 1 & 3 next year...
  8. I don't mind us going defensive when the opposition are on top of us... However, you've got to have some sort of forward line... At one point in the 3rd quarter, we had a boundary throw in on our half forward flank, probably about 75m from goal... We did not have one player inside the forward 50, I think we may have had one player slightly forward of the pack... How are we meant to score when we have no players in our forward 50, when the ball is only 75 metres from goal?
  9. should've played ahead of Robbo and Miller... would've at least given us a target last night...
  10. Surpised not to see Riv in the votes... I thought he also had a great game along with chip...
  11. I also believe that Matthews said he was a key position player, and he's obviously going to take time...
  12. What is the salary cap in Dream Team? I'm pretty sure that's what the salaray cap in the AFL is... At least it was at one stage, I'm not sure whether they've adjusted it season to season...
  13. i think it's around 7 - 8 mill...
  14. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rfnews/me...ge#contentSwap1 Great article, although I would've liked it to be a lot longer, could've gone into far more detail. But very encouraging to hear the club are planning like this, for the long term.
  15. but his form doesn't warrant selection
  16. i thought he said when he was on the footy show about a month ago that he was single... that's the only reason I thought this was the case...
  17. he's single, so he doesn't have one of those attention seeking "look at me" WAG's hanging off his arm bleeding him dry...
  18. Did you have the pleasure of interviewing them, and get overruled? You must be quite informed on the qualifications and attributes of both these coaches... However, if he doesn't get a run in a senior job for next season, which I highly doubt, I'd love for Bails to bring him to Melbourne as an assistant...
  19. I'd hardly call myself a die hard. The whole point of this thread is that, he should be given more opportunities... Cynics like yourself write players off far too early... How many people wanted to trade Sylvia, now he's the favourite son around here.
  20. I can't wait for Juice to prove everyone wrong... The worrying thing, i'm not sure any of you will be happy when he does, such has been the vendetta against this guy...
  21. very little... it should only be about $3-$4 plus a booking fee... although if you get the ticket at the ground, you're charged no booking fee...
  22. Newton is contracted, Dunn will hold his spot, Valenti is a rookie listed player, Zomer hasn't played a game...
  23. Correct weight... They've been avoiding this clash, because the bomber's clash jumper clashes with our home jumper more. What's gonna happen in a couple of years, when we face off in the finals? Heaven forbid, a grand final. Hopefully, we're in a strong financial position by then that we can stand up to the AFL if they want to force us to wear the clash jumper when we shouldn't have to, like North at the moment. Having said that, I actually thought the white looked better than the red, however I do agree a red and blue jumper would be ideal... I still think a reversal of our colours would've been best.
  24. Firstly you consider 2 games (including our only win) this season as his chance? That's it, that's all he gets? Our forward line looked far more functional with him in it. He played a bad game (not as bad as everyone made out IMO), got dropped, had good form since, whilst our forward line is still a shambles, and you say he's had his chance? With still another season to run on his contract? You say you need to take your chances at AFL level, and mention Miller and Dunn? Have those guys taken their chances? Not really. How many games have they played? Then you compare him to Grimes? Grimes is playing as a medium sized defender. Totally different beast to playing full forward in a side with the least amount of inside 50's in the comp. Now you want to trade him for a 25 year old, injury prone defender? Defenders, we have an abundance of, forwards we do not...
  25. you should be able to get them at the gate, but get there early... i remember last year or the year before, I got there about 7.20 and they only had restricted view left... took about 10 minutes to line up too... you could end up with a really crappy spot if you don't get there early...
