Congratulations to Jack. Has provided leadership and stability to Casey, and got lots of possessions. Good luck to Bayley F getting onto an AFL list

I think it is smart in all directions. Seeing Plapp in the huddles on the telly suggests he has clear, strong messaging skills, has worked with most of the guys in the backline (if he gets that gig) and has shown a real emphasis on defensive pressure and getting to the contest. I remember watching when Casey beat Willi, and he really looked the goods as coach with his simple reminders of what needed to be done and clear directions to the team. A good move for Jade’s CV, and we keep the strong connection in game style and approach across the alignment. good fortune to both gentlemen in 2018!

Nearest to the pin? Demons involved in deals on day 2 (Tuesday) Day 5 (Friday) and Day 10 (Thursday, deadline looming)
-
If I order my membership now, and get a customized card with Watts on it...and he goes..... how will I cope???? #firstwordproblems. (I’d probably get daisy, anyway!)
-
Media are reporting he met with Port? Was he sighted? It would strike me as a big move for a Melbourne boy with his board shorts biz and everything else set up here. I wonder how the exit interview went? Maybe a few home truths about his prep and commitment - step up or step off sort of stuff? Maybe not up for the challenge? Anyway, contracted with 2 years to go, former number 1 draft pick. Gotta get some things of value back for that (a first rounder for lever deal would work nicely, plus a player for good measure). I would ask for Ollie Wines.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

How is this place going to go off when we don't land him? (no info, but I reckon this website would melt quicker than Godzilla's underpants!) -
No info, no crystal balls. I think Watts adds more value to us than in a trade. I see that as the list improves, it will lift Watts. Watts will not be one of the 'lifters', but he will make the team even better. It is like a multiplier. I would not trade him for this reason. WTF with Hogan?? That sounds like horse-shyte. The WA clubs can ask after him (Conversation: "Is he available?" - "No" - "OK"). We would not look to trade him unless the truck backed up overflowing with goodies. This sounds like complete carp. The club, the players and their managers are all silent on the issue and it is only tossers in the media trying to drum up interest in bottom-feeding shows like Bartlett's swill that drive this. Can we have an overview of [censored] commentator and their 'success' in leaking or breaking a story? Suggest that they are all actually batting well below chance. May as well consult the horoscope. This thread is about trade rumors, not 'trade guesses pulled out of a greased and overused anus' that these idiots are proposing. More rumors, (even from Juddy's Grandma!) please!

I hope they do enjoy themselves, avoid the eruption (of the volcano at least). They are young men. If they are smart and look after each other, I hope they have a brilliant time and come back refreshed and ready to go when the bell rings on the pre-season soon enough.

Do Melbourne supporters dislike hard players?
buck_nekkid replied to red&blue1982's topic in Melbourne Demons
How can this even be a topic when we have Rodney Grinter in our Pantheon? What does 'hard' mean - in the trouser department (then Stringer is ours in the trade season)? hitting blokes? head over the ball players? no surrender/no backdown attitude? I think we have (and love) some hard players, like Viney, Jones, Oliver, Nev. We have others that we want more dead set commitment from (even though they may be giving 100% of what they have). It takes all types. -
Melbourne Players' Trade Value
buck_nekkid replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Value = Capability x potential x buyers need. most are unproven, have moderate potential and variable need ( depending on suitor). Those that are proven are almost out of potential! we would be lucky to get steak knives for a lot of them, and we have no one worth more than a first rounder. Hopefully several will emerge next year. suggest we need to be a buyer of talent, not a seller. -

No wonder the doggies were interested in him.... -
Well written, well timed. Lets see how he goes earning his spot. Accuracy in front of goal would help his cause....

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

At the moment we are all speculating about speculation. As I understand it, there are no deals done outside of the trade period. We have not even spoken to Adelaide. Reporters can ask players a question "Would you like Lever at the Dees"? And report the answer (creating news) . So far, I have not seen an unsolicited statement from anyone. We should not even be talking to him now as he prepares for the finals matches in front of him. We may have spoken to his agent, but the rest is either 'pre-negotiation signalling' or speculation. All the flogs in the media who suggest picks and players know NUTHINK. I am pleased that the Dees play things close to their chests, and dont leak these days, only signal. We are not the only ones in the running for Lever. When he comes out in the media and selects us as his preferred destination - then GAME ON! -
The club could also be scapegoating him - the whole Doggies outfit under-performed this year, based upon their premiership last year. Didn't make the 8. Would be like us blaming Jack Watts for everything that goes wrong at the club (hold on....) Until we do due diligence, we can't know. I suspect that there are elements of truth in he is a [censored]/he has problems outside of the game/ he has relational issues at the club. Whether he is a bloke that needs a fresh start in a great environment, or is damaged goods - I hope the FD can work this out quick.

The olny fly in the ointment is that we are getting rid of Spencer. We have no 'insurance' if Gawn goes, and the ruck concept comes back into fashion. We need good big men that can take contested marks (we were thrashed in this department all year). Gawn is worth more than Lever, so we would want to get a bucketload back if we were to allow him to move. It would strike me as nuts, but I am not the FD. Better is to redefine Gawn as a forward/ruck and rotate him more heavily.

They want two first round picks - sounds like they get their bargaining strategies from Demonland. They low balled him at $300k, they knocked back a good offer for Gibbs. I think we need to approach this with clear air - We should pay fair, but not overs to Adelaide for the trade. He wants to come, so let him! Offer a pack of burger rings and a used toothbrush, and lowball them for starters... -
Wow. Not so long ago an 'untouchable', would have thought. Hope we do our due diligence and make the right call. We dont need any weatherboard 'fixer-uppers' with a quirky features and vendors set to sell. We need to find the 'hidden gem' that will add straight away to our system and structure.

Jack Trengove, Jake Spencer, Mitch White and Liam Hulett de-listed

A 'technical' question: have these 4 been delisted, or just announced that they are going? Ie, free agent, trade, etc still an option?. (is there anything coming back)? -
2017 Player Reviews: # 3 Christian Salem
buck_nekkid replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would push him up onto a wing and look for him to provide outside run and lace out delivery inside 50. With Joel Smith, Hunt, Frost, OMac (Lever) and Jetta as a back 6, he should really build his tank in the off season and demand a wing of high hf role. The 'development year' in defence is over..... not traded unless for something of significant value. -
No surprises here. Now we upgrade, trade and draft our way to a stronger list.
