I think reading between the lines the farm is being offered to Petty not the MFC

This could be similar or worse than the LJ fiasco - the compensation in that case was well under market imo and as time moves on it looks even worse. Players that can have a significant impact on the outcome of individual games are as rare as hens teeth - LJ is unquestionably in that category now and will become more valuable in time. For us Petty is close to that because he is our most versatile tall (the main question mark on him would be capacity to stay on the park consistently)

I’m still hopeful he decides to stick with us but if he is determined to leave get ready for us to to very disappointed with the compensation

i think the deal for dog was the best 'value' ever, wasn't it? two first rounds and a second round pick for dog, a third round, and a fourth round pick...neither of which got used

The club are resigned to the fact now we will likely lose him at year’s end.
I was originally of the understanding he was more than happy here, but they held him to his contract for this year given how important he is to our side.

Whether it be the money or not, he is apparently “desperate to get back to SA”.

    two first round picks

one for every premiership that he'll have played in by the end of 2024

Sorry this is just total crud, and shows you know nothing about the two stadiums, Bellerive will not upgrade to this size, it's in the suburbs and York Park is NOT IN THE CAPITAL CITY. How many times does this need to be said!!!!

Also, please everyone understand this.  THE COST is NOT $715 or $1Billion to the Tasmanian Taxpayers, it's $375 Million.. the rest is being paid by Federal Capital works money, the AFL and private investors.

If this stadium does not go ahead, not only does the other 400 mil not get spent in Tasmania, but all of the money that the AFL is committing over the next 10 years, (300+ million) for junior development pathways, the high performance/community football etc, that all goes.

if the stadium doesn't go ahead / gets blocked by tasmanian parliament, do you think the team will still happen despite the afl's determination that 'no stadium = no team'?

i think you overrate the international cricket argument.

most profitable cricket is t20 and roof is no problem and in fact a benefit.

odi and test cricket attendances are dropping alarmingly and the chances of a test match(s) in tassie are low, as is true for odi

Does it really need a roof tho?

Another pretty straight forward round in tipping aside from possibly the Dons/Saints game.

i reckon i could pick teams out of a hat and have as much success as i do in tipping

competition is so even apart from the bottom three or so teams

  7. think you've completely missed my point @Ouch! - and i certainly don't think i'm relentlessly negative but you do you - which is that there's no increased media rights value in a 19th team, which is what funds the competition...so they'll want to get a 20th team in quick smart; where will it be?

tasmania should've had a team eons ago, agreed, but because of the perceived / actual value of adding a team where there's already fans they were ignored in favour of making the correct / not 'right' decision to go with the northern franchises to open up into new markets and increase tv rights value

i've heard all of that @Purple77 re bellerive, but i just don't think they need a new stadium with a roof at macquarie point, particularly if it can't be utilised for international cricket as well as afl due to having a roof

isn't hobart the second driest city during winter, or some bizarre stat like that? so...does it really need a roof?

I agree.  I think the AFL has taken advantage of Tasmania's desperation for a team to get a new stadium out of them.

And doesn’t it having a roof means it can’t be an officially accredited icc venue, which rules international cricket out from being played there? BBL is fine, but nothing at a higher level?

Said with such authority and pomp. Tasmanian is our great games heartland. If you cant see that the compassion and support our footy family needs in Tassie and debate it over the whole $$ rubbish that is sad. Trust me, the $$ will sort itself out. Always does. The games not going bankrupt because of Tassie! It's probably some long standing gripe you have had with someone over this and you cant get past it. If you love footy you just have to love the concept of Tassie in the family.

No issue with the team coming in but the stadium is completely unnecessary imo

They should’ve been in before those northern franchises that’s for sure

Trying to find info on any evolution in the Port Adelaide gamestyle,

Seems like Wines it taking more stoppages and spending less time forward which is hardly surprising or radical.

Marshall is taking a ton of marks (10 and 9) and creating many more goal assists than previous seasons, but both Marshall and Dixon have barely 50/50 goal accuracy. Maybe playing further out and taking their marks and set shots from further out?

Then again, maybe their forward stats are just skewed by the bizarre game against the Eagles. Finlayson 0.4, Dixon 3.3, Marshall 0.3, Bergman 0.3. Could and probably should have been a 100 point win despite letting West Coast score 70.

Which brings up the next point - West Coast 70 and Richmond scoring 92 despite both games being dominated by Port suggests that Port are pretty leaky defensively, and all that despite no tall forward scoring more than one goal against them.

Hard to get much of a read on them other than that, with just two games to look at and against what is basically the second-last and third-last teams (with only Collingwood below).

Did I mention only Collingwood is below then. Because Collingwood is last - clearly 0-3 is lower than 0-2.

    Just recapping, Collingwood; the worst.

    good analysis

like us, the pear are prepared to take the game on a little more in the small sample size so far in 2024 - they're leaving the corridor more open and are getting hurt on the rebound

when they turn it over then they're away with quick kicks on the 45 and opening up space for their leading forwards

it should be an intriguing match-up of sides playing similar styles

the big difference for them this time could be no lycett; he's one of those man mountain ruck types that gawn struggles to use his athleticism to quell

Could the 20th come from the NT?

    no

tiny population and the traditional football season (april to september) is not conducive to the competition given the weather

20th team has to be 3rd perth-based side; joondalup is the obvious place, as @No. 31 said up thread

if they're targeting tasmania in 2028 then they'll want that 20th team in by 2031 at the latest, in time for the next tv rights deal

even three seasons with 19 teams might be too much of an imbalance in structure and reduction of increased / perceived value in the competition

McVee, Rivers, Howes and Bowey are all elite kicks and are going to be so dangerous. I actually believe that is the best group of half back users in the competition

hmm, i wouldn't call them elite - i'd call them neat

they all don't bite off more than they can chew and make 'sensible' decisions rather than 'risky' ones

perhaps with greater experience will come greater desire to take the game on, in the mould of blakey from the swans, williams or saad from carlton, and naicos or crisp from the filth

Footy is at risk of losing a traditional market in Tasmania, it is on the decline as as a grass roots code.

is it really tho? the amount of players coming into the afl system out of the tasmanian ecosystem seems to have grown in the last decade, not fallen

in truth, the amount of players coming through a bigger state like south australia is far more concerning and has been flagged at head office as a watch item

  14. i still maintain there is zero $$ value in a tasmanian team coming in as the 19th team - adds nothing to the media rights coffers, which is what funds the game at the end of the day

it's definitely got a feed good factor, but tasmania's population hovers around that 500,000 mark - it's dwarfed by the gw$ or gc17 catchment areas for population growth, let alone the value of having two extra teams up north in terms of media rights value

i loathe those franchises, but it was the 'correct' move to bring them in; tasmania is just pandering to already converted footy fans

i'm more curious about when they'll bring the 20th team in - i am assuming it'll be a third team based in perth

AFL fantasy is purely based off stats. i.e 3 points for a kick, 3 for a mark, 2 for a handball etc.

Supercoach is the one that adds additional scoring for effective disposal, score assists etc.

Petracca has a SC score of 146 compared to Sicily 123, which shows he was more effective in the game.

supercoach points = champion data rankings
