Not sure if mentioned here yet but Gary Lyon on SEN this morning brought up the little known fact that Cameron has been FINED 5 times in his career for dangerous tackles.🤦‍♂️

He doesn’t have a spotless record like Pendlebury for example, and obviously hasn’t learnt from his soft feather warnings

What a joke. Obviously not a clear record then. Unbelievable that they would come to that conclusion. Was the AFL lawyer deliberately putting up a limp case again (eg Maynard)?

Ah someone who takes notice welcome to the few gang who say it.

We just need to beat them at the contest. Deny them clearances and our backs will do the rest. Tonight they destroyed us in that area - as they have done before but not every game in recent times.

Can’t believe what I just heard Dermie say on crunch time (well l can actually) he basically said that Oliver took short steps with Darcy Forgerty on the lead Thursday night.

Just a bit more fuel on the fire to stick it up these outdated media [censored]

How much more credibility can this dinosaur lose.

To suggest that Clarries effort was soft especially with all the concussion concerns now & one of his best mates forced into retirement is embarrassingly pathetic

You would see a harder ball player than Clarry
Oh yeah and then Tom Morris said that Kozzies action was similar to Maynard’s against Gus!!

There were similarities in the action. That is a fact. Saying the are similarities is fine, they weren’t the same though. The differences are the Koz was much closer to Soligo when starting his action (so less reaction time) and the force was not even in the same ballpark.

  4. Absolutely love Judd McVee and always happy when the ball is in his hands. Having said that, he needs to learn from the Carlton final and the Rioli goal. If he can’t take the opposition player with him, he can’t go to ground/past the ball in those contests. I’m sure he will learn from it for next time.

  5. I’d favour Petty down back than the Tomlinson, Tmac, Hore combo. But that is dependent on Fullarton or Ben Brown being able to play quality mins forward.

May won’t be out for long IF there is no internal damage (lungs, kidneys etc). Rib fractures alone don’t usually have them out for more than 1-2 weeks. Hopefully not too long for Lever either - as mentioned elsewhere, they would have a good idea by now if there was any possibility of ACL.

  6. There was also public transport issues, e.g. Sandringham line not running. My parents had a tight turnaround from an activity in the morning and weren’t going to be able to make it in time due to traffic/lack of PT so stayed at home. They had fully intended to go though and I’m sure weren’t the only ones.

Schache's gone for Fullarton that's a no brainer.

    The rest isn't easy.

I think it has to be either Hore or Woey for Bowey and keeping Salem in the midfield. How many times did Salo lace kicks to forwards (only for them to drop them) last night? He provides us such a needed balance.

    Pickett for Laurie.

Not sure if Spargo/Billings swap roles or stay in or go entirely. Not a lot of confidence in either of them.

Agree. Hore needs to come in for Bowey - we need to be able to keep Salem in the midfield. Woey jnr doesn’t help with that, though I’d be happy for him to replace any of Laurie, Spargo or Billings.

Has been an issue for several years.

As has been a pattern not to adjust our method.

Ironic that on a night we should of been kicking long for territory, we were linking up with hands.

Again, our poor kicking was a massive factor.

Slippery conditions exacerbate our kicking iusues because it exposes poor technique.

Which made the decision not to start billings even more perplexing.

And slippery conditions expose how much we rely on maxy's marking. Did he take a mark last night.

Such a frustrating game to watch. Infuriating

Exactly. I was pulling my hair out about our inability to deal with slippery conditions AGAIN!
It really highlighted Goodwin’s stubbornness AGAIN. He just refuses to make changes based on past failures.

    Salem “disappeared” after Bowey’s injury.

Nevertheless, yes, we have a problem if we can’t win CPs or clearances against a second-string midfield.

I think they put Jordon onto him

Nothing, we were the ones that signed him on a long term deal knowing he could be done at any moment.

Medical retirement should mean Gus is taken care of by the league and not salary cap.

The only other thing we should’ve got / should get is access to a replacement player by the SSP.

It’s crazy to have the deadline last week and Gus announced now. Provision should be made for medical retirements before the first bounce of the season proper.

That first paragraph is a terrible take. He had gone years without concussion and then was knocked into next year with a huge hit that could have caused brain damage to anyone.

Agree that we should be allowed to sign a replacement player. I’m not sure what other compensation we can reasonably expect.

  11. Not a whole lot that we can read into this result, just that Richmond have better depth than us. The complexion of the game would be completely different with the likely opening round 22s for each team. Individual performances are worth looking into. Very scrappy game overall but I’ll reserve judgement for now.

I think we're 50/50 to play finals in 2024, and considerably less than that in 2025. Our depth in key areas is almost non-existent and we are very heavily reliant on Gawn and May to play full seasons, which is unlikely given their ages.

The age profile of our list says that our fall, when it inevitably comes, will be pretty brutal. I doubt the coach and the list manager will survive.

Disagree regarding your second paragraph. Gawn and May are the only significant losses to come due to age over the next few years (I consider Tmac and BBB already done). Important players yes, but with free agency and likely a good amount of cap space we would be in a good position to replace them. Ruckman can go on to a surprisingly good age - Sandilands was 36 when he retired (Gawn is almost 32). Our age profile is excellent.

While I agree with you that any suggestion the Pies were worthy of an A when they picked up two later order players who are both regarded as quick movers is a massive suck up to Pies job. They were probably a B, given they gave away their first pick for Schultz who if you have seen him, is a very classy player and will play round 1, unlike many other draft picks.

But as to what we did, it is hard to get excited.

Windsor and Tholstrup are both quick players and so is Kynan Brown, so we made sure our ageing side is replenished with youthful speed - that's a big tick.

But we completely blundered the trade swapping game - clearly we are missing Josh Mahoney's input here and we all should be querying the role Tim Lamb had in those pick swaps and overall list management.

The first decision to offload picks 14, 22 and 33 to advance up the order and get pick 11 should go down as one of our worst efforts in history. Clearly we thought by having pick 5 and 11 we could get Harley Reid, but it proved a flawed philosophy. Whilst i am quite happy with Tholstrup, we almost certainly could have got him for pick 14 anyway as only Collingwood seemed aware of his talents and their picks was much later. And even if we'd lost out and some club snaffled him at pick 12 and 13, we could have got Leake from Tas and the jury is still out as to which of him and Tholstrup is better.

Then our list manager mucked up how many players we needed on our list (kept Schache, T-Mac and Brown) and that meant we had to offload pick 42 just before the draft for a bag of peanuts.

    Stupid is as stupid does.

Saints apparently interested in Tholstrup also. But I do agree the pick swap proved dumb given Leake slid.

Pick 42 was basically worth nothing anyway. The club didn’t rate the talent available.

I trust our recruiters as they have a very good strike rate, but my gut says you shouldn’t take small fwds or outside mids inside the first 10 and should be looking at an outside mid only with our with our 2nd pick. We should be looking for a Steven May replacement given Petty is also likely out in a year or 2 as well. Curtin seems like the ready made replacement and seems highly regarded or Caddy if we want more fwd options.

    Josh Kelly anyone?

    We may take a KPD @ 11

We don't really have a player like Windsor on the list, I can understand why they may be enamored with him

Best available please. Picking for needs in the first round is a mistake.

  16. West was awful against Brisbane. Panicked disposals which cost us goals and field position repeatedly. If she can’t handle the pressure of home and away then how is she going to be in finals?

Fwiw I think she is probably just down on confidence and she definitely has it in her to be one of our best, as she showed most of last season. It’s a big call to drop her.
