Will Martin get his chance back or will they give Cook a go....
pitmaster replied to Hells Gates's topic in Melbourne Demons
How about you try mounting an argument instead of rabbiting off random, disconnected thoughts?? -
It amazes me the faith people on this site routinely put in untried players. This week it's Lucas Cook in for Clark on the basis of like for like. Really? Have a good look at Clark and then try to convince yourself Cook's body is a like for like option. Besides, no sooner does someone debut and we're dumping on them (earlier this year at the 'G I had to tell some 'supporter' to get off Tom Mac's back - now he is a Rising Star nomination), and someone else here is disparaging Tapscott even though he clearly has the body and attributes Neeld is trying to foster. Cook is a work in progress and by most accounts it's early progress. I reckon he should debut this year. After almost two years in the system you'd want to have a look at him at senior level but a game that until Clark's injury looked somewhat winnable at the Gabba is probably not the place to do it. I reckon round 19, at the MCG where all Dees ideally debut, against Gold Coast where the physicality of the opposition is closer to Cook's is when he can be tried out. If it goes well he can have a crack against the Saints - also at the 'G, then the Giants. This week it's Martin for Clark or we go small.

Fully deserved. Reverses that early pattern too!

Have a nice flight back to Blacktown Tom ...
pitmaster replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Grimes was the first to shake hands with Scully, and then had a longish chat. I saw about five players in all talk at length to him, but I did not see Trenners go to him which is interesting since Jack T was the one who most often was wheeled out in Scully's defence last year to talk about what a quality fella he is and how we all hoped when his decision came 'at the end of the year' he would stick. I did not think anyone showed disrespect to Junior. I even cheered when he ran down Jones in the first quarter. Sensational effort. And McLardy said at the prematch that he had told Junior he was welcome back any time he wanted and it was hoped he might come back in some coaching capacity. -

Just loved the way the crowd did not let up. And that roar when McKenzie completely outpointed him in the last was wonderful. -
People have been expecting a slog. At 12.15 the weather looks sensational - NO EXCUSES. A day to showcase some skill.

Odd that it's an 'exclusive' interview when the big paper has one too. But good to have him out there laying to rest some of those mistruths of earlier in the year.

Rather than tanking as some have suggested, the final squad is about using our maturity and experience over their obvious lack thereof. If you read today's Age interview with Neeld, it's clear he sees a fit Davey as a big part of the future. In the interview he says Davey's series of three interrupted preseasons has eroded his fitness level and this year is about rebuilding it.

Having tipped four in the first half (only getting Essendon right) what do I know? Anyways, I've gone for four - GWS at the 'G, Gold Coast, North - I really want to break this dual hoodoo the Roos and Dlands and reckon they are more vulnerable now than for years) and Port. I'm the one tipping a return loss against GWS at Manuka. They might be tiring at that end of the season, but on form they'll challenge us so I am trying to be realistic.

"Don't go to the snow, come see Scully" - Sheedy

That would ok..I guess...as long as it's a decisive victory...then flatten him right on the final bell. -

Disagree on motive for Scully. I reckon they wanted the number one pick whoever it was for bragging rights up north...err and a bit west. This is why people who say we should have gone for Jack T or Martin number one miss the point - Sheeds was after whoever went one. Agree he's got a gripe with us and maybe the coaching thing stung. I didn't want him but in hindsight Bails did not exactly set us up for great things and maybe Sheeds sees that and it twists the knife. Whatever! I'd rather we be talked about than not. Go for it you silly old geezer. -
Unbump please. Two goals for Werribee...Sheeesh!

It's not a trial. It's a committal. That means a magistrate has to decide if there's enough evidence to justify going to trial. If it goes to trial it will drag on for months. If the magistrate says not enough to warrant a trial, it's over.

I am on your case rpfc. The fact is I don't think this site is used for news. You're referring to the thread about Cale Morton and The Age article today. I reckon the 'hook' for the Age article was Neeld's very obvious spray at Morton that has been played repeatedly on the box. This site was used to flesh out the views of supporters but it was not the catalyst for the article. That's how I read it anyhow. And you're resorting to this crap thread to try to stand up your argument elsewhere. You're putting the cart before the horse old bean.
-
It isn't. It's an example of a reporter using modern technology to inform himself and his readers. I really enjoyed the article and it was using this site to demonstrate the division among supporters about Cale. Could hardly have been more apt. It was not adopting any of our opinions, simply noting that we are split on Cale's value or prospects. Some people (rpfc included apparently) aren't happy unless they're miserable and whingeing is their way of life.

I wish I had more interests in my life so I didn't have to read crap like this thread. Magner defamed - a disgrace.

But finished with 3, or is it 5 premiership medals?

It's not as active as this site but it does have some quality contributors. To add to those named above I would add Stinga and Robbie87. Both are smart, non panicky and thoughtful. DeeFlower on the other hand is not just their resident pessimist but is a waste of time and space. I see her tag and I taste lemons. Weird and not worth reading.

WINNER: Goose of the Year ... David King
pitmaster replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not so long ago football disappeared from the sports pages mid week. There was the Monday match reports/wrap up of the round, and if we were lucky Tribunal hearings on a Tuesday night. Then it was dead until we had team selections Thurs night - Friday morning's paper. Because of the proliferation of pay tv and sports radio we now have so much extra time to fill and the fall off in quality is obvious. Now we are supposed to give a rats about every third rate opinion - sorry I don't. Take a look at Caro Wilson's back page lead on Tuesday - it was comment masquerading as news - that's where we've got to. Opinion outweighs facts. King is just a low rent instance of this truth. -
Not reliable by foot near goal in the past but we need his pace and have to persist with him. That disallowed shot at goal was a ripper, maybe he has worked on that skill failing.

from an acute angle and under pressure - tell the full story - got the curve on the ball but it turned way too early
-
Gives us a physical presence up forward, CAN roost from outside 50 although did not do so this week, and CAN and did win contests at ground level.
-
Plenty of Dees in the MCC reserve - probably outnumbered the Blues in there. Greg Baum mentioned the big red and blue turnout in his match report. Maybe try another part of the 'G.
-
Do any of you actually watch the game? Watts and Dunn out? FCS!

Garry Lyon's six-month rescue mission over
pitmaster replied to Brayshaws' Helmet's topic in Melbourne Demons
Freo is welcome to R Lyon. It's far too early to be making a call on Neeld but I seem to remember that the overwhelming sentiment on this site when we took Neeld was that we had a keeper. So let's stay staunch a while longer. We welcomed his hard talk, his obvious displeasure at round one, his increased emphasis on contested footy and a strong defence so let's lose the panic mode. Most weeks this year we have seen improvement. Last week was a huge step back but we should also be conscious that Misson is training them harder mid-week than he has other teams (if his interview on the club site is correct) and that implies this year is essentially an extended preseason for 2013 and beyond.
