Reckon I was there for that one as well. Chrissie was a captivating performer & Divinyls were a great live band. And few better debut singles than "Boys In Town" have been released The Palace was a fantastic "big" venue. It had the capacity of the "beer barns" (eg Pier Hotel, Tarmac, Village Green, Manhattan) but with a better vibe. More like a concert Not that it didn't have a bogan element. Saw Gangajang (fantastic band) there with Katrina & The Waves. One witty fellow up the front called out "show us yer t i t s". Katrina gave him a look that would stop a charging rhino then dumped a jug of water all over him. Bands needed to pull a crowd to make it work though. If The Palace was only half full or less it had a bit of an aircraft hangar feel to it

There's a documentary that screened on the ABC last year on the journey of Jeremy Oxley Can't find the whole thing online (maybe WYL can get his hands on it) Doco website here :

My kids were just young teens when they introduced me to Paramore. I heard "Misery Business" and got hooked. Then they attempted to draw me into the teenage girl debate of who's better - Paramore's Hayley Williams or Juliet Simms from Automatic Loveletter And being teenage girls they despised anyone who only knew "Decode" from the Twilight movie. Best played loud

Loved the Prospect Hill - especially Sunday night gigs. They started early and you'd be pleasantly half-cut instead of fully plastered and home in bed before midnight. Excellent preparation for the working week ! Some blasts from the past on that list of 78 Known Gigs Macca. Sweet Jayne with the awesome girl guitarist. Exploding Cats ! Sadly I must admit to being at that gig Jeez we were spoilt for choice with live music venues then

I've seen the singalong nights advertised. Haven't yet made it to the Caravan Club but a mate loves the joint. Used to see Billy a lot when he was in The Spaniards with Mick Pealing, Russell Brown & John Annas on drums. Fantastic band who eventually sunk with barely a trace but they had some great songs. They put out an EP (god - remember them) which was high on song quality but the production stunk up the house. I got a couple of live tapes straight off the mixing desk that sounded better Here's Billy in pub mode and I'll be - there's a Spaniards vid as well

Yep. At first we were wondering if he was pizzed, or ripped off his [censored]. Then my mate suggested that he was perhaps having a stroke. I was so looking forward to seeing him. The other problem he's got - it was a Sports heavy set - not many Sports songs translate well to single acoustic guitar. I've had a crack & most you have to slow down to ballad style to get a half decent result. I remember seeing him in the early days of his solo career with his own band (a well fit Rebecca Barnard on backing vocals) and he and his band were great. I'm pleased to hear he's still got it & I just copped him at a bad time

Pleased to hear it. It sounds like you & I may have frequented some of the same gigs back then. They were such a great band live. I have a gig they did at Martini's in Carlton indelibly imprinted on my brain. Steve Cummings announcing "this is my very favourite song" as they launched into "I Fought the Law". Still the best version I've heard of it. They were having so much fun they did it again as an encore. That Day on the Green concert was a ripper (I went to the Rochford Winery gig). While Steve was sad & the Sunnyboys a bit meh, Tex Perkins was great, JoJo Zep & the Falcons superb (worth the ticket price for them alone) and Elvis Costello & The Imposters - well they could fart a shopping list & still sound amazing. I took my 17 yo daughter who was unfamiliar with all the acts except a few Costello songs. She was blown away.

Sports were my favourite Australian band. Saw them live many times and they were invariably brilliant. Steve Cummings has released some terrific albums as a solo artist as well However, I saw Steve at a Day on the Green gig - just over a year ago. He was terrible. Looked and sounded like he was having a stroke. I was quite saddened by it.

Ah, my favourite version of my favourite Clapton cover. Cheers

Not sure how much substance this has. Jackson has consistently said he is not here for a long haul. It was only in September 2014 that he confirmed he was on board for 2015 If PJ wanted a longer contract this is the first time it's been mentioned in public. If Bartlett thinks he has to go shopping for a CEO post 2015 then he certainly has to start looking now. Cook would be a good get and PJ knows all about succession plans Ideally PJ has become invested in the club & wants to continue beyond his current contract. If that's the case, sign him up for 3 more years. We need the stability If it is all bulldust then Bartlett needs to get on the front foot in tomorrow's media & put it to rest. Then he can go back to being The Quiet Man president & leave Jackson & Roos as the public faces of the club. That has been working well

It certainly was. The fat bastid is mad on US sports & usually gets over there for the SB No excuse for him getting his bonce on my TV without prior warning though

Nah - I'll stick with my original call but thanks for the opportunity to review This has me farked. The ball is thrown to an official at the end of nearly every play. Surely those refs have handled enough footballs to be able to tell if there is something appreciably wrong. With an AFL footy you can tell in your hands as you mark it if it's a touch flat. Different balls but I'd expect the principle to be the same Not surprised to see the Ravens front & centre when the bleating bandwagon got rolling

Talking point: The first half of the season to come
Go the Biff replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I recently read a thread on Bigfooty about potential R1 upsets. I know, it's BigFooty. However, the consensus from the non-Melbourne fans indicates that us beating GCS would be a considerable upset. So at this stage I'd agree we have the underdog tag. A lot of water to flow under bridges until then but the reality is it doesn't matter what we or the neutrals think. It's what the players think when they run out on the ground -
Not what I said at all. You said he struggles to get a game most weeks. I pointed out he's played 42 from a possible 44 since drafted which is hardly struggling. At which point you went off on some weird tangent concernig top 12 clubs. Whatever. I mentioned my thoughts on the leadership group. StevethemanJordan's excellent post better explains what I was too lazy to write To finish on Matt Jones, he is a footballer with obvious limitations but he has a crack & provides run that others can't (or won't). I don't think many understand why he gets a game and I don't think he deserves a lot of the cheap shots he gets on here. Same applies to Bail. However neither would remotely be candidates for the LG in my view. I do agree OD that we will be a better team when those two, among others, have been supplanted in the team by better players.
-
Dude, he is not playing in one of the top 12 teams And the thread is about the 2015 MFC leadership group Not sure how your point fits in here. Maybe start a "Matt Jones is tripe" thread & go your hardest there

Great effort from Kokkinakos tonight. Watching the other Special K in the 5th now. The Fanatics give me the "Edgar Britts". The are worse than those stupid faux Swedish supporters from the '80s
-
Have gone with the head over the heart through the playoffs. Head says Seattle. F8#k it. Patriots 31 - 24. Would love to see Brady get that 4th ring.
-
He's played 42 from a possible 44 games since we picked him up. Hardly been struggling for a game. Not big on this leadership group thing. Preferred the old captain & vice captain model However, in these modern times I would think Jones, Grimes (if he wanted it), Dawes and Cross are the types you'd be looking for. Probably HL as well. After that, Garland, maybe Jamar. Dunn is supposedly a leader on the track but I still can't bring myself to trust him. I think there are a lot of future leaders there but they are a year or two away. Let them consolidate their footy careers first

I'll quote myself from the original Garlett thread : Agreed. I like little Jeffy. He's a different type to Kent who is more a running half forward and JKH who I believe will play his best footy in the midfield. Neither of them are crumbing types and Jeffy I think would complement rather than constrict their opportunities He will add a bit of excitement to what is - let's face it - a pretty dreary team. When he is sniffing around the packs that Hogan crashes or sharking the spills from Dawes marking, I reckon he will get a few of us out of our seats My sister is a mad Bluebagger who is really sorry he's left. She genuinely wishes him well at Melbourne. She claims his off-field troubles were domestic rather than behavioural - something to do with the mother of his kid. She also reckons he is a very shy young fella and that the pub incident from which charges are pending was right out of character And at Pick 61 - all he has to do is be able to hit a target by hand or foot and he's ahead of half our list. Bargain

Agreed. I thought it was brilliant. I've enjoyed the commentary teams on Big Bash. They have managed to strike a good combination of providing information and taking the pi55 out of each other

Most of the memorable matches over my years of watching tennis have been "drawn out 5 setters". Except McEnroe's dissection of Connors in a Wimbledon final which was like watching an artist combined with a surgeon. Superb exhibition. I had a look tonight and found it a bit like dancing with your sister. The steps are the same but it doesn't quite feel right. I take your view that a lot of cricket purists don't like 20/20. I do. I also loved the recent Test series against India which was often riveting. 20/20 is almost a different game. It's not just the time constraints it's the tactics, the approach to batting, the balance of attack & defence. Plus you've got a heap blokes trying to hoik it out of the ground - great fun. But very different to Test cricket From what I saw tonight there is no difference in the game being played in Fast4Tennis. The approach is the same, the tactics are the same, the shot selection is the same. The only difference is the scoring. On court, it's just tennis. I guess I'm with Grapeviney on this - I don't see a need for it or a market that is demanding it. Time will tell - which is kinda ironic in a way

Pats 35 - 17 Seahawks 31 - 28 Getting in early least I forget

Given you tipped them to win I reckon you might be selling yourself a bit short there !

Baltimore 17 New England 28 Carolina 10 Seattle 31 Dallas 17 Green Bay 31 Indianapolis 21 Denver 28 Can't see a road team winning this week and yes, Detroit got shafted

If he'd rather watch at a time of his own choosing it might be worth giving Dawi over at Demonology (Mk.2) a yell. He puts a live stream of Melbourne games on and saves some of them as full replays, hosted on his YouTube account. Not sure about the legality but his know-how is excellent
