  1. Agree with this. With more experience he'll gain poise & confidence. Under pressure he can give off the "hot potato" handball to a team mate in no position to receive it. But his disposal otherwise is pretty good. Doesn't take the most adventurous options but usually hits his target. I reckon he'll be a good player
  2. Agree on the Goldstein thing or the mods will end up vacuuming up posts all weekend Rockliff is an age we have a shortfall in. He's also a goal kicker. Just get the feeling he could slot into our lineup & fill a need. At the moment, if his personal issues aren't a complete roadblock, he appears a potential bargain.
  3. Quoting myself is poor form but I've swung around on this now that the Lewis reasons for coming are clearer. If we can get him for a third round pick we would be laughing. As good as Vince & Jones are, I think the likes of Clarry, Trac, JV, 'Gus and Dom would benefit greatly from a couple of years in the trenches with Lewis. So we'd get a ready made first 18 player & on-field coach. Rather than an impediment to development, he's a 2 year investment in improving our young mids. He fits in with our "competitors only" ethos - he's as fierce as anyone going around. I suspect he would come with a point to prove so rather than topping up his super as I suggested earlier, he would give everything he's got. Others have outlined his playing attributes so rather than restate them, I'll just offer up the following. If you were picking the side for next year Round 1, Tommy Bugg or Jordan Lewis ?
  4. Just out of interest, does anyone have any specifics on Rockliff has allegedly done to earn this rep ? Is he a complete dirtbag of a bloke or perhaps just nit a very good captain ?
  5. At the start of the year I thought he was the most intriguing player on our list. He'd shown a few flashes at Casey, including a four goal game towards the end of 2015. Was really glad he was persevered with. The intrigue has well and truly gone and the footy world has seen what he's capable of. It will be fascinating to watch him develop over the next few years. Already a fan favourite, if he keeps improving he will be one of the players that puts bums on seats The "most intriguing" mantle has now been passed to Son of Shaun Smith.
  6. Key difference here Fence is that Lewis is still in contract. And for those potting Lewis, yes, he is past his best but his best was superb. His most recent form was 2nd in the Hawthorn B&F. I think they went ok so his form reads pretty well
  7. Haha - they will probably go on to be great assistant coaches !
  8. Same. He's been a star but I don't fancy him coming here to top up his super Unless of course there is a mutually beneficial tidying of the lists. Straight swap for Dunn
  9. Jon Ralph just keeps rolling out Hogan stories Jesse can be hero
  10. Yes he did. Tippet anyone ? The interweb whispers are starting up. The Swans are keen to keep Mitchell and parting company with Tippett, given their ruck stocks are pretty healthy, might free the cash to make young Tom a decent offer. Thoughts ?
  11. Still don't see the point of this but surely it's Liam Picken
  12. I'm always flat after the GF. Nothing to do with the result. Just because there's no more footy for six months
  13. I'm not familiar with stuie's Facebook group but I and some family members are in the one that this rumour sprang from. I've not posted in it. There are some wonderful, passionate Demon fans on there It does however have far, far more than its fair share of (to use a BigFooty term) absolute campaigners I also give it little in the way of credibility - in fact was surprised to see Dazzler quoting from it
  14. Agree completely. He gives us something we are in short supply of - run & spread. Thought he was good until he busted his ribs
  15. The only option springing readily to mind is Gold Coast. They have silk at either end of the paddock but no midfield. They might think it's worth throwing Grimes a lifeline. He would want to stock up on the sunscreen though.
  16. To be fair he's not had much in the way of opportunity
  17. I'm no Boyd fan but I thought he was immense tonight. When Roughead went down GWS could have dominated through Mumford. Boyd just stuck at it and at it and at it Man that last quarter was intense. I'm not sure I breathed for the last couple of minutes
  18. That says more about you than it does about Hogan. Jeez I hope people drive carefully in your street
  19. If that's all it took there must have been easy pickings for Picket
  20. I'd respectfully suggest that those zone defences you speak of would be tweaked to buggery in an effort to combat Carey. As ProDee said, he would be the best player in the game now. He was that good
  21. That's your view and you're entitled to it. Me - I don't know. I don't know what the club has or hasn't done. What they have planned, what they have overlooked. But I would guess that unless your in the footy department at the MFC, you don't know either We can all guess whatever we like !
  22. Of course it’s selective. So’s yours. And it will remain selective unless I compare him to every key forward that’s played the game. I don’t see the point of comparing him to Royce Hart nor Richard Lounder nor Warren Ralph nor John Butcher so I’ll leave it there. As I said, stats only tell a part of the story. My opinions are formed by watching rather than stats. I remember watching Brown thinking “jeez, this kid could be anything”. I get the same buzz watching Hogan. I see his appetite for a contest. I see his judgement of the ball in flight. I find myself speculating what he would be like in a better forward structure because frankly I think ours is shite – including games we won. I’ll leave Clint Bizkit to carry the banner on that though. With Hogan, as I replied to TGR, I think we are seeing the tip, not the iceberg. But that’s based on what I see. If I’m wrong it’s far from the first time and it won’t be the last. Jesus, I thought Stephen Bickford was going to be a gun and he ended up attending more MFC board meetings than he played games ! To use some of your examples, this is what I saw Jack Anthony was a one trick pony and everyone quickly worked him out. Everyone except Freo much to Jack’s good fortune and they gave him a nice contract Travis Cloke was one of the premier power forwards in the game from 2007 to 2013. History tells us that the majority of key forwards begin to decline in their output after their mid 20’s. While he won his sole Copeland in 2007, the likes of Swan & Pendlebury have been sharing it since. Not bad competition. From what I’ve seen I’d reckon Cloke has had an excellent career even if it’s in decline as he approaches 30. I saw Jeremy Cameron pretty recently. He ripped the heart out of the Swans in a semi final. Not sure what his stats were but I thought he broke the game open. As I recall he had an injury riddled year after the one you mentioned but I still think he’s one of the best forwards currently playing Membery had an interesting year but I doubt he gets the focus that Bruce & Reiwoldt do. I’ll keep watching. Darling as I recall played as a third forward rather than a KPF. Still does to my eye. That said he’s still enjoying a fine career. Good player – can be hard to match up on. To me his output diminishes significantly away from Subi but again, that’s just what I see. Stats may prove me wrong
  23. Absolutely. And well done not quoting my entire post !
