  1. There certainly were about 3 occasions where he could have given it off instead of blazing away. The one where Petterd was moving towards goal at the Punt Road end away from Green and his 2 opponents was a gimme, but Green ignored him. The Captain is playing better but was selfish on a few occasions.

Green turned down a couple of shots he should have taken! The one in the last quarter where he gave it off to Jones was a certain goal if he'd had a shot. It's never a certainty if you give the ball off to Jones.

  2. I've heard this touted a bit.

    What's it based on?

Watts, to me, seems a very confident young man.

Jack Watts' confidence is more to do with whether or not he is prepared to take significant risks when he gets the ball, and when he is trying to get the ball. He would rather try to do the 'safe' team things at this stage.

As a junior footballer, he was free flowing and attacking and really good. As a basketballer, he was amazing as a decision maker and an aggressive offensive player. He is not showing much of this type of confidence at this stage. He looks scared to make too many errors.

He may still look confident to you but there are many different levels to sporting confidence.

  3. Bartram - has exhausted welcome

    Bate - had no influence

    Bennell - rarely gave whimper

    Bruce - excellent first half

    Davey - rarely showed interest

    Dunn - lively and involved

    Frawley - kept at task

    Garland - was rarely noticed

    Green - still all class

    Grimes - injured and missed

    Jamar - had little influence

    Jetta - did almost nothing

    Jones - taught a lesson

    MacDonald - tough but slow

    Moloney - displays diminishing zest

    Rivers - milestone to forget

    Scully - was rarely noticed

    Trengove - a rare winner

    Watts - our best player

    McKenzie - overwhelmed by class

    Spencer - an underwhelming display

    Try these:

    Davey - can hit targets

    Watts - craps himself sometimes

    Moloney - couldn't get free

    Jetta - what's he thinking?

  4. 6. Trengove

    5. McKenzie

    4. Green

    3. Dunn

    2. Watts

    1. Frawley

Can't say I agree with people giving votes to Davey (especially 5/6 votes wtf?) only had 14, and Jones had a field day. Struggle to see how Green wasn't in our best 6 either.

In Davey's case don't be misled by stats. Look at the quality of his possessions and the one percenters.

If you need to rely on statistics, then you're not watching the game.

  5. The absolute clanger is an important stat in today's football - especially against a team of predators like St Kilda. By halving our clangers and handballs to players, compelling them to commit a turnover, (because there is nothing else they can do) we will win these games. There might be quite a few of these players who will never plays finals football with us. There could be a few, whom, when surrounded by quality, might cut it as top AFL players. There are a few who will develop into AFL A graders and I don't know who they're going to be yet - but doesn't Trengove look good!

Every haphazard handball that puts one of our stationary players under pressure is a howler at the moment.

What must the players think when they watch the clips and video through the week? Do they compare their efforts with St Kilda's uncontested marks and clean ball handling?

Does this drive them towards improving their skills?

Do any of them ever consider that they're not good enough at this stage?

Or is this their problem? Do they not believe in their ability strongly enough?

Were they resigned to the idea that they were going to lose too early in the last quarter?

There are up there with persistence and physical effort for the most part of most games.

  6. Not the guy who wouldnt buy a membership???? B)

You have to love those people who make such a silly stand as if its going to have an impact. An ultimate lose-lose outcome.

Not in the eyes of the coaches. A player born with a great leap and no 2nd efforts

Grossly oversimplified portrait of Robbo. Robbo put in second efforts as intensely as any player of his time. The problem was that the efforts weren't good enough. He was too easily defended by strong defenders like Scarlett, Glass etc. He had physical limitations and skill limitations but did his best.Every so often, he lifted his team with a mark using the "great leap" you remember him for.

  7. I was there. I saw it close up. Bruce looked like he had concrete gumboots on when it counted. Stats mean naff if you stuff it up regularly. Loose man in defence, no opponent, was the best from him today and enabled him to run off a couple of times. Other than that, if he's not at Casey next week we're treading water with little imagination when it comes to team selection.

    Absolute rubbish
