  1. I could not be more impressed with the way this kid handles himself in the media already. He just looks and sounds so confident around guys like Jimma ad Barass who would make me sweat a nervous wreck just being in their presence! I am as excited about this kid as Bruce McEvaney used to be over Andrew Mcleod!
  2. My understanding is that ``Leading Teams``who were involved with the club during the 2008 season and incidentally were with Geelong in their premiership year were behind the players voting on the leadership group. Does anyone know if they will be around next year? I would have thought their services would not have come cheap and they certainly had little impact on our on field performance during the year. The club has been bold and pro active in recent months and I agree with others that the dual captaincy is not the way to go. Selecting Brock as sole captain will show yet another positive forward thinking move by the club. He epitomizes the passion and heart that is slowly creeping back into our club!
  3. Yes I remember that game too. Built like a pencil with one of the great mullets of the 80`s. And yes, I remember that mark he took in Adelaide. There were not many braver players running around than Stingray in the entire league let alone at Melbourne. He and G. Lovett were two hard nuts that finished footy far too early and we missed them both dearly.
  4. I love watching Cousins play and I would not be surprised if he gets back to somewhere near his best in 12 months time. Still, I would not take the risk no matter how much work ethic he may show the kids. Besides, we now have a man named West who can show kids all about work ethic in the midfield albeit from the sidelines. For what its worth, I reckon Benny was juiced up during the premiership win 2 years ago. He had/has this nervous paranoid look about him and I for one do not think he is clean at this moment. Has there ever been a more ripped player in the AFL than Cousins?? He may well have played on Ice and E who knows, but I would not be at all surprised to find out that he was on the `roid juice at some stage in his career. Saying that, I truly hope he gets clean and plays well for the Saints. There are not many better opposition players running around that I enjoy watching, with or without substance assistance!!
  5. Without any doubt in my mind. Round 22 v Bulldogs at Western Oval 1987. The planets aligned for us that day. Knowing that we would play finals for the 1st time in my life as an 18 yr old, I was choking back the tears.
  6. I reckon the club would already be thinkn about it. I know Paul Gardiner said he would never have him at the club , but he`s long gone now! Give him a 1 year contract. He will get people through the gate and there is absolutely no doubt in anyones mind we need midfield grunt. It would seem at this stage there will be stuff all else in the PSD. No brainer IMO. Our club has been criticised for living in the past and being boring. Time to spice things up and get him at the club!
  7. I am not quite sure how to feel to be honest. I am stoked he is staying because he really has shown the last 2 years that he can play some inspiring footy which is great to have around so many kids. On the other hand, he obviously was more than happy to walk from the club if the right money came his way. It didnt! So now he has to face the playing group at training on Monday with the whole group knowing very well that he was pretty much selling out! ROK will feel the same wrath if he stays at Sydney but more than likely he will end up at carlton in the PSD you would think. I rate Greeny`s efforts the past 2 years I really do. He has surprised me with his run at the ball and lack of fear at running into packs. He is one of the only blokes to do it at Melbourne on a regular basis. This is team lifting stuff and can win games of footy by inspiring his teammates. I do worry about the reactions of how some of the players will feel towards him now. I am also wondering if what kept him at the club was an offer of co captaincy or at least VC. That might have been enough to sway him. Anyway, I am sure that when he starts running into packs and doing the courageous acts we saw this year that the playing group won`t give a rats arse that he contemplated leaving. If Green is playing as well as he has in the past 2 years in a crap side I shudder to think how good he may become in 2 years time when this side starts showing it`s potential. Welcome home Brad!
  8. Nice backflip by the AFL. Nice to know someone has some common sense in that joint!
  9. Thanks for that Addam, not sure if your mate Peter will be thanking you though!! FWIW, I`d love Armitage in Red n Blue. Straight swap for CJ thankyou! Farren Ray, no thanks!
  10. I heard today on SEN that it will be announced during the pre season comp next year (NAB Cup or whatever it will be called next year) They also mentioned Aaron Edwards (Kangas)classic grab during the finals last year which was ineligible in 2007 because it was in the finals, will not be eligible for the 2008 season???!!! Figure that out? One of the great grabs of a decade will not get a look in!
  11. Yes we have another long year ahead of us IMO, however I have a lot of faith and I feel this year was the bottom out period. We may even finish 16th next year but I think we will see signs of a new era by the end of next year with a bit more consistency in our competitivness. I remember vivdly watching Melbourne comprehensively [censored] Hawthorn in 2006 at the G and remeber how bad Hawthorn were. They played exactly like we played for the majority of 2008, turning the ball over at will or simply kicking to a teammate with 3 opposition all over him. 2 years later they have just won a superb flag against an almost unbeatable team! I would be happy just to be a sniff of finals in 2 years yet alone a premiership. I feel things started to change at the club when we got rid of TJ last year and I think we will see more of the same in the coming weeks. Strap your seatbelts on its going to be a very interesting trade week and a very enjoyable rise up the ladder to a flag in 4 or 5 years time. We`ve waited 44 years, another 5 will be a walk in the park!
  12. To be honest, I reckon Cam Bruce would be shaking his head in disbelief ! I am not a Bruce basher like many on this forum, but seriously his year was average at best. Green was IMO easily our best player this year. However, there is 1 far more baffling statistic from the night .... How on Earth did Newton get 4 votes???
  13. We have 2 cheer squads and 2 forums?? I don`t get it! I would have thought we need to stick together in the current footy climate. I joined Demonland this year simply because It was so easy to sign up. Has there ever been a move to join the two sites up?
  14. Chooka! Our next captain will hopefully be our Premiership Captain in 5 years time. Green won`t be around then and I am not even convinced he will be with us next year at this stage although he certainly has shown plenty of leadership qualities in the past 2 years! Having a permanent midfielder as skipper is crucial for us IMO, so Brock is the logical choice.
  15. I also heard that he would have been picked as high as 5 or 6 if it were not for a horrible run with injury (Chronic back or something??). Someone else has written that he needs to bulk up (which he will!), well I was actually quite surprised at his size, he is a lot bigger than I thought. I have only seen the 1 game so I cant really comment but those handful of touches he had against the Tiges looked very calm and did not look out of place at all. I think I am more excited about this bloke than Cale!
  16. From what I have seen live, Flower by a mile! From what I hear from yesteryear however, Barassi was unbelievable and probably won several of those flags for the club by his own brilliance. (Apologies to James Cook, Isaac Weetra and Cameron Hunter)
  17. This is a cracker! I have preferred the MFC logo than the Demon all along but this version is far more eye catching and a massive improvement from the Shizenhausen Silver Syndicate
  18. I get almost as much joy watching Joffa`s face during a Collingwood pasting as I do a Melbourne win!
  19. I was riding the Natanui bandwagon earlier this year but jumped off as soon as I heard about Watts. Our forward line is screaming out for a KPP. He most likely will take a lot longer to get a run than Rich would but there is no need to rush him in anyway. He will probably do a similar apprenticeship as Marric did this year.
  20. I would love to be proven wrong but I reckon we have 12 more months of pain ahead of us. Sadly, I have an awful feeling we will finish no higher than 16th(4 wins would be nice!) But this is all just part and parcel of being the team otherwise known as the yo-yo`s ie, up, down, up , down, up, down etc, etc. Then all of a sudden, we made the finals 3 years in a row (up, up, up ). Then it all went pair shaped(down, down, 2009). In yo yo speak this is called ``walking the dog`` if I remember correctly the last time I picked up a yo-yo 30 odd years ago! So , things are just about back on track with 2010 looking like an up year. What happens after that remains to be seen although I have a feeling the up, down cycle will be lost for sometime. And it would not surprise me at all if we win a flag in 2014, 50 years after our last one. I just hope I am still around in 2064 for the one after that!
  21. Yep, its a hip not a knee for sure. Didnt sound overly serious as he played Rd 21 after they announced he needed the op!
  22. $ is the problem! He is about to win our B n F. You would expect a club that wants their current best player in career best form to be around for 3 years without blinking an eyelid. Word is that green is not happy at Melbourne, and Melbourne will not be happy with anyone chasing the dollar. Times are changing at MFC for the better IMO. We could have got top dollar for Yze n White to name a few when they were at their peak several years. I think the penny may have finally dropped at the trade table and the word ``ruthless`` has been bandied around a bit in the past month or 2! I dips me lid to Brad`s past 2 years, he has been in great form and easily our most consistent but I think a trade makes perfect sense for both parties. Brad may play in a premiership for another club in the next 2 years and we get another top 20 draft pick in the most important draft in many moons! And for those that think trading Brad is outrageous as he is such an important player, think TJ. Not too many saw that coming and most were devestated(as I was). But what a wonderful decision that has turned out to be cos TJ has not changed one iota and Jack Grimes WILL be around for our next premiership and word has it may even be Captian that day!
  23. I know many rumours are spread around and most are just that..Rumours! Just wanted to share a rumour outta Tassie. Yes it is one of those friend of a friend rumours but interestingly the ``friend`` is close mates with Greeny`s old man . He says Greeny will be chasing the money and as we all have heard lately that the club intend to cut the salary cap considerably this year , I doubt he will be getting offered any pay rises in a hurry. Bailey has also clearly stated that he wants a team that want to play for the jumper and if they are chasing money then the answer is pretty simple that they won`t be at the club. It is interesting that Greeny is currently out of contract however (correct me if I`m wrong!)! As much as I think Greeny should be our Captain next year I will not be at all surprised if he is traded. He probably has the best dollar value of any of our players and if TJ can get us a pick 14, personally I think Brad has had a far better past 2 years than TJ has , so a top 20 pick is definitely not out of the picture and IMO considering how important this years draft will be, I think there is far more upside in recruiting a new kid who just might be around for 10 years as opposed to 2 more very good years from Brad Green in a team that will not be pressing for a flag for at least 3 years
