  1. The man is all Melbourne. Watching him play in his last game of the year Mothers Day throwing his weight around and physically itimidating the collingwood players was brilliant. We need more players with his passion and aggression. He'll be important for us this year providing a strong body in the middle to protect our younger players.
  2. Yze_Magic always a deliverer of good news. Good to see Schwabby not buckling at the first couple of subpar offers and instead waiting for this deal
  3. There wouldn't be too many 200cm ruckmen playing in the U19 ammos I reckon. Anyway I think Stefan has shown too much promise and skill as key defender to even consider playing him permantly in the ruck. Leave him there and watch him blossom
  4. And look what happened Jolly played in a premiship the next year....................... Whilst Jeff White started to show the first signs he was not the player he once was. Anyway we were never going to win a premiship with Whitey as our #1 ruck if we had Jolly who knows?
  5. Great name Pierce Liddle. It's a shame that if he does turn out some great performances and thus get's himself into a position to get drafted that we won't be able to have first dibs on him. I suppose its exactly the same thing we did to get leaping Liam.
  6. It's all about Jake "the Snake" Spencer, he actually plays with some heart and aggression something we haven't seen at the MFC since the days of Stynesy. His shove on Goodes whilst he was trying to pick himself up from the ground was awesome to watch. If Meesen is picked it will just be another addition to the long line of soft athletically gifted hack ruckman that have plagued us in recent years. What I would give if we could have traded Jeff White to Sydney instead of Darren Jolly back in 2004.
  7. Look up the word "hypothetically"
  8. Hypothetically if we had taken Jake "the snake" Spencer with pick 17 in this years draft and given his form thus far would be people be happy with the desicion? I would.
  9. Freak I didn't think Grimes's kicking was all that bad whilst not elite like your man Hodge (whose kicks are?) there certainly nothing to be extremely concerned about. I suppose I'm comparing him to the likes of Jones, Frawley and Bartram.
  10. After watching this kid on Saturday I'm convinced he is just about the most talented youngster on our list (yes this includes Watts, Morton, Garland, McLean and the like) Playing off the half back flank he provided the best run I've seen at the club since Nathan Brown was robbed of All Australian selection in 2004. His kicking at times may look a little awkward but it is extremely effective and nothing to be concerned about. He's also a great overhead mark, an assest I was surprised to see him excel in. Obviously he'll end up being a midfielder but for the moment its refreshing to see a running defender with talent and a smart decision maker down the back end (note to Daniel Bell). In the future I reckon he'll end up as a more dynamic version of Lenny Hayes. Anyway everyone knows the Rising Star is awarded to the youngster with the highest posession tally at the end of the year aka Palmer I seriously could see Grimesy averaging around 20 effective touches each week unlike Palmer and actually deserving to win the Rising Star. For anyone else who agrees with me I suggest you sign up for an internet betting account and chuck some dollars on him at 31 to 1 he's great value. He'll also be the next captain of Melbourne no doubt about it.
  11. Our midfield is very one paced. For us to improve on from 2008 we need Davey to have a massive year
  12. Got us back into the match today and was brilliant. Is so quick off the mark and his kicking skills are sublime. Sydney had no one who could go with him. If he plays like that every week Yze_Magic's prediction of him taking home the Bluey could very well come true.
  13. Josh Mahoney sounds like a terrific fella.
  14. Is that where the original idea came from? I do remember Craig Cameron saying perhaps he could devlop into a CHF down the track. He'd get to enough contests if he ever did such is his aerobic capacity.
  15. Chris Connolly at a debt demolition luncheon I attended earlier in the year stated that Cale is the most exciting first year prospect that the MFC has had in 20 years. This kid is a freak who we should be equally as exicted about as Watts. Had he played for Collingwood or Richmond he would have just about pulled off the NAB rising star. Averaging 18.4 possesions in his first year playing with a body weight more suited to U-14s footy is simply an amazing achievement. Individually he played some fantastic games pulling in brownlow votes against West Coast and Essendon however his game against Geelong was the standout for me. With everyone in the football world writing us off for at least a 20 goal lost Morton played an absoultely stunning game, kicking two important goals and showing maturity upon his years. His 17 mark performance against West Coast is surely a sign of things to come. I see him as an Adam Goodes style utillity using his endurance to simply run off his opponent and take many uncontested marks around the wings. Doubt he'll end up being the CHF we all wanted him to turn out to be when he was drafted but hey we have Watts so it doesn't really matter. * Cale Morton does not have poor skills. A combination of lack of weight and protection from other MFC players led to the occasional miscued kick.
  16. What a little [censored]. I seriously hope none of our list remotely like him as a person.
  17. All players would have been given running programs to complete. nether the less its great to hear stuff like this
  18. James Strauss will be our Lindsay Gilbee/ Andrew Mackie/ Grant Birchall.
  19. Look I don't think Jones is a bad footballer and in hindsight I really was having a bit of a troll ranking him 16th on my talent list. However..... How many times have you seen Jones hit a forward lace out? Don't give me crap how about that's not his specific role. All "A" grade inside midfielders in the modern game e.g. your Sam Mitchell's and Joel Corey's have far superior kicking skills to Jones. If were going to challenge for a premiship he needs to get his kicking up to scratch or either pick up about 20 hard ball gets a game just to justify his position. I for one more than anyone hopes Jonesy can improve on these deficiencies in his game.
  20. Matthew Scarlett is only 192cm. How tall was Silvanghi? I think the comparisons with Fletcher are vaild. Whilst indeed there is a bit of a difference in terms of physical proportions Garland has similar "go-go gadget" arms, a feature Fletcher made synonmous with his game. Garland has the abillity to spoil seemingly out of nowhere. Regardless there is no doubt that Garland in terms of talent alone should be ranked within the top 3 fo the clubs youngsters. Who says he has to play strictly full back. His abillity to match up on small oponents e.g. Didak only adds versatillity to our backline. Add him to the likes of Martin, Frawley and Warnock.
  21. 1:Watts 2:Morton 3:Garland 4:Blease 5:Grimes 6:Buckley 7:Jurrah 8:Petterd 9:Frawley 10:Bennell 11:Strauss 12:Maric 13:Wonnaeamirri 14:Spencer 15:Martin 16:Jones 17:Jetta 18:Macnamara 19:Bate 20:Bartram 21:Bail 22:Dunn
  22. I'm not too sure mate. Obviously my comments in reallity count for nothing as I've never seen Watts or Blease in the flesh and am just going on what I have read but I'm under the understanding that whilst they are two extremely talented players, Blease in particular due to his small frame might take a little while to get his body right for the rigours of AFL. However we were saying similar things about Maric last year and he certainly impressed by the end of the year.
  23. Just spoken to a friend who played with the Collingwood VFL team alongside Jurrah. Reckons he is an absolute freak and compared him to a Micky O type but with the athleticism of a Buddy Franklin. Not that its a downside as many have alluded to on this thread but my friend alerted me to the fact that whilst he is a nice young man he is extremely quiet. My friend said he wouldn't have spoken more than 10 words at a training session. Obviously coming from a rural area to the big smoke for the first time would be an overwhelming expierence so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Let's hope he has a great career and blossoms with the likes of Jetta, Davey, Bennell, Wonna and Whelan.
  24. Any guesses onw here he would have gone if he was available in the national draft?
