Pick 2 alone is worth our two picks this year, and given next years pick will likely be the same as either one of Norths extra picks, they're ahead of us on value by a long way.

Especially considering whoever their target is besides Reid, they'll be able to get them guaranteed with the North deal.

Ours is a strong offer, but theirs is significantly better

Pick 2 is better than 6 and 11 is laughable. Most clubs will take 2 top 10 picks over 1

We’re not getting pick 1.. it’s just not going to happen.

WC don’t want to take a risk on Reid and they believe curtin is the next best player. They’ll get him at 6 and then get dees next 2 first rounders.
If I were WC this scenario would have to be considered

I think North will compromise and give one of pick two/three.   West Coast would be mad not to take the deal

Don’t think north will give up 3 and 15 for pick 1… regardless 6,11 and F1st is a better hand

Lets be realistic and none of the above will happen because Harley is not worth 3 first round picks under 11.

Melbourne made the same mistake in the 80's with Moore and Templeton who was a crock they gave away 3 interstate draft picks and could not afford 2 good players who wanted to play under Barassi, clearing Jackson as well.

6 and 11 should be good players.

6,11 and F1st is right at the limit for Reid

I think North will get 1 but it will take getting 6 off us for 3.

2,6 and more will give WC a guaranteed Curtin and another high pick plus more.

    WC won’t reject that.

However we must keep 11 to get another good player.

6 and F1 is plenty for 3 and should get that deal done, which will see North pass it on and be part of deal for 1.

We should keep 1 and ask for one of North late first rounders back and bundle it with 11 to get a bit higher.

If dees finish top 4 next year they will essentially be giving pick 14 to drop down by 3 spots. No thanks

Norf will be doing everything in their power to make Wet Toast think Curtain won’t get past pick #3.

and Wet Toast will be doing everything in their power to make Norf think that the Eagles have convinced Curtain there is a warm bed for him back home if he gets chosen by a Vic club.

    Fascinating game of poker.

No phantom draft has curtin top 5… north aren’t picking him for pick 2 or 3

If it looks like Curtain slides to 6 on draft night, then WC have an offer to consider. Otherwise they back themselves in, and take a Vic kid, who likely comes back in a few years. They cannot afford the wasted development years should he not stay, and they later have to go through the draft again. We are in a great position, as 6, 11 and a 2024 F1 is overs - 9 years out of 10 that’s overs.

Agree. Curtin will land at 6..

I'm not sure how this would work from West Coast's perspective. Our picks aren't high enough to get Curtain, so why would they trade out 1 to us, thus missing out on Reid, while also missing curtain. They'd be mad not to trade with North for 2 or 3 though. That way they'd secure curtain plus other talent with what they get back.

No non WA club is wasting a top 5 pick on curtin especially when he isn’t much better than the others around him.
    he will slide to 6.

Not loving the idea of Caulfield, it's a lot better than Casey but hardly as central as it should be.  The plusses include multiple train lines to get there, as well as a major arterial, and even trams for those that don't mind a walk at the end of it.

Also, it's a lot bloody closer than Cranbourne.

I'd certainly accept it as a short-term thing, but wouldn't it suit St Kilda or Hawthorn better (location-wise)?

My ideal would be for us to do some sort of deal with Port Melbourne to take over / share their facility.  Half the players seem to live around there (that's subjective, I know and am willing to be way off), it's bloody easy to get to (by car), central and in a far more vibrant area than the Caulfield Race Course.

Would be awesome if we could set up some sort of flotilla to provide transport for fans to/from Port Melbourne to the MCG.

Caulfield is 8km from the CBD. You aren’t likley to get anything closer. Is Essendon fields or hawthorns dingley vibrant? If Caulfield bid succeeds then it will be a phenomenal outcome

IMO, North are giving up the most in my proposed deal, maybe WC could contribute 23 and we could throw in 42 back.  North have enough picks already so 23 and 42 aren't much value to them.

    https://www.zerohanger.com/afl/afl-draft-order-2023/

    WC give 1 + 23 get 2 + 6 + 42 - result: 2, 6, 37, 42, 58

    North give 2 + 3 get 1 + 11 - result: 1, 11, 15, 17, 18, 57

    MFC give 6 + 11 + 42 get 3 + 23 - result 3, 23

Thankfully none of the people on this forum are involved in the trade negotiations.

in which world do you think 3 and 23 is a good exchange for 6 and 11.? Absurd

So he’s only a risk 1-5, but will stay if drafted after that

Semantics… but typical from some on this forum. The same people that think a 3 year contract is worth something these days. Horne Francis says hi

But who would take 3 later firsts for an earlier pick? Surely all clubs are relatively aware of a cliff within the talent pool. Teams generally only split picks when they need points, or if they can stay in the appropriate range - this would negate that.

    It just won’t happen.

The only way I can see North doing a deal is for 2 or 3 plus a F1 . & change.

    Pick 2 and F1st isn’t better than Melbourne’s 6,11 and F1st

By the sound of things it will all depend on whether or not Curtain will be available at our pick. Given North hold picks 2&3 and also given they need a key defender they are the key.
If they put lots of time into Curtain before the draft WC are unlikely to deal with anybody else.
I suspect North will end up giving pick 2 and maybe 3 later first round picks that WC will use to trade up.

No interstate club is going to pick curtin in the top 5. Too much of a risk. Curtin will be available pick 6

  14. 32 minutes ago, Dwight Schrute said:

Yes it is, we would trade our future first in a heart beat to upgrade pick 6 to pick 4. our future first is likely to be between 16-18 and after all the academy picks will probably blow out to early 20's

the Hawks deal would be extremely compelling because if North don't want Curtin, the Eagles are almost guaranteed to get him.

Thankfully you have no involvement with our recruiting..

    Thanks Chaser.

Hawthorn's 4 + F1st is closest to the pin currently and hard to beat.  The F1st will be a top 10 pick, Hawthorn won't play finals next year. WC could even on trade it for more early picks this year.

    Our 6 + 11 + F1st doesn't top it and neither does 2 or 3 plus 17 from North IMO.

4th and and undetermined future 1st (could easily be 12) from hawks is in no way better than a guaranteed 6,11 and dees future first.

Fact wc knocked back pick 4 from hawks and there first next year likely to be in the same range. I can’t see how our pick 6 and 11 this year plus our first next year would be enough.

Are you comparing pick 4, and hawthorns FF to 6,11, and dees FF?
dees are giving an extra top 20 pick.

  17. 16 minutes ago, demoncat said:

Hawks reportedly offered Brockman, pick 4 and their future first for pick 1 which was knocked back by West Coast

That’s essentially pick 4, brockman (40) and and FF. Dees offer is still better

Why would West Coast trade pick one to us? That would mean they slide down to pick six and probably miss out on Curtin

Because they will get pick 6, 11 and a future 1st. It turns 1 pick inside 20 to 3.

no other interstate side is picking curtin and there’s too much risk he will go home.
