  1. The Hawks have a massive bandwagon tarred in poo and feathered. Probably the biggest in the league. If they had just been through the last 10 years that we've had they would have a total of 652 members signed to date this year...
  2. I can understand your sentiment but... Why should he say anything. Let alone tyre pumping like that. It's time for doing not saying and I believe that we finally have a core group with this mindset. I think we have finally seen our last false dawn (way too many for my liking). Now it's just a matter of the pieces falling into place and building from there.
  3. way too many what ifs..... How about we flip a coin and go with that. Dees make the 8 - Hogan stays Dees don't make the 8 - Hogan goes Silly? Yes it is, but it sure beats some of the hand wringing crapola being spouted on here at the moment....
  4. this has to be watched right to the end. Classic!!!
  5. Signing a long term contract 9 months before a CBA would be extremely foolish when you are the talent that is Jesse Hogan. Hell, even the great Yze Magic would put contract talks on hold!!!
  6. Having said that I believe the people more responsible got off very lightly......
  7. It's all very black and white. The problem is the 'massive' grey area in between. For example (in my opinion only) the weight should bare down on the senior players mostly. They are generally responsible for the culture provided to the young up and coming players who look to them for inspiration and direction/directives. Any players who were under say 23yo(?) at the time are the the ones I feel should've received a slightly lesser penalty.
  8. Just to clarify. Barrett got the scoop from Judds grandma.......
  9. Flick it in a well and make a wish. It's certainly better than the 'other' option
  10. In mo64's defence he may not have seen the footage that was released closer to and after draft day. I remember watching one clip earlier in the piece that was ok but nothing really stood out as elite. Some of the later footage though had me in no doubt that Oliver was raw but unquestionably the best 'non academy' mid.
  11. I backed Toumpas while he was a Dee but I did choose Wines in the D'land poll. I wanted Wines because he was a bull and built for Rnd 1 duties. One thing he wasn't though was elite. He just did everything with unquestionable gusto and wasn't below average at anything. Just what we needed at the time. A low risk pick with potential for high rewards.
  12. Ok here is my 'assessment'. Leaving Olivers strength out of it, he has the best inside awareness of any kid I have seen. He doesn't need time like most to assess the situation. He has assessed the state of play 'before' he gets the ball. This cannot be taught. (See Jimmy Toumpas). He also has lightning hands so the balls is gone 'before' opponents can dispossess him. This too cannot be taught. Parish' natural football nous is unquestionable. But there are 2 things that stood out to me that had me a little concerned. 1. He was pushed off the ball 'waaay' too easily. Even by opponents who were smaller and lighter than him. 2. His ball drop was way too high. So from an AFL pressure perspective could lead to most kicks either misfiring or missing completely. The 2nd point 'may' be fixable but the 1st, very rarely. Both should have above average AFL careers but I think Oliver doesn't have any glaring deficiencies. Only upside IMHO.
  13. Surprisingly no. I watched it live. Front row seat. Mitch clearly saw the train wreck ahead and lined Brown up with the elbow.
  14. I've never heard of pads or a box for the feet. Imagine a full paced yorker to the bung foot....... Surely that would come to ones mind before donning the whites...
  15. Viney got a bit too aggressive but I'd rather that than self preservation techniques like this........
  16. I usually refrain from getting engaged with you Stuie but look at the date of the statement. He would not have signed the extension had he been that homesick. GWS would also have done a deal if he was that homesick. They would have known he was. If he was. Anxiety and depression are extremely serious and something I don't take lightly. Yes, I may in fact be wrong in this instance. Unfortunately it is unquantifiable and some people will use it to get what they want and that is a very low act.
  17. Correct. I think I'll leave it at that.....
  18. This statement from McCarthy is from the 25th of May 2015. Only 8 months ago and well into the 2015 season proper. “As soon as I came here I fell in love with the club. I wasn’t here for the early days but a lot of the boys said it was hard early on getting thrown around a bit but I think now everyone’s pretty excited about what the future holds. “If we keep playing some good footy and keep a few boys together we’re definitely going to go places.” Although it is something we will never truly know I find it very hard to believe he could go from loving the place and keeping a few boys together to a complete breakdown. The excuse of mental illness will be a massive blight on the sport and unfortunately can't truly be measured. Also a complete insult to those who truly suffer as Gorgoth stated.
  19. Obviously they knew of him. it was just a figure of speech to put into point form my opinion of what happened.

  21. Prodee and Mach5 have this nailed. 1. GWS recruit CM 2. Freo don't even know him let alone rate him. 3. CM signs a contract extension much to his delight. 4. See point 2. 5. CM starts exhibiting elite talent. 6. Freo starts to take notice. 7. CM starts kicking 4+ bags per game. 8. Freo in desperation gets in his ear and says 'come home to the club you love son'...... We WILL make it happen. 9. CM believes he's going home to play for the club he loves. He's ecstatic. 10. It doesn't eventuate and the world caves in around him leading to possible anxiety and depression. (If indeed afflicted by these truly aweful mental illnesses I hope he can garner some respite and recover as best he can) Moral of the story. 1. Don't believe everything you are told. 2. Stand by your commitments and re-evaluate your position only when you have fulfilled them.
