If true (and I wouldn't put it past the AFL to be so arrogant as to think they could get away with such a sham), I wonder what recompense the AFL will be making to those teams. It's not as if it involves shafting us and StKilda etc.
Did the AFL ever give a reason for introducing an 'opening round'?
NRL is in Vegas ready to knock off the NFL so Sydney and Brisbane have no NRL games.

Surely thats not right; nine days till pre season starts Nov26?.
Thats over 9 weeks break or 3 months for non finalists.Presumably non finalists started very early in Nov.
In a few weeks they'll all be packing up for another long xmas/new year break. .
Even training days are limited and over by late morning. Good job if you can get it !
No wonder we can't kick straight.
are you always in the kitchen at parties?

No Friday games in first 15 Rounds but 4 Thursdays. Geez I hope Carlton are [censored].
Sponsors with logo on jumpers will love the Thursday night prime time free to air exposure.
Free to air prime time games are much more commercially valuable than Pay TV prime time.

This thread is so hard on him for some unguarded comments in an unplanned interview. In which he said he was staying at Melbourne. He was on the golf course!! He is a young bloke and not someone who is regularly interviewed. He said he is staying and I believe he meant it.
Give him a break. Let's just hope he comes out fit and firing and adds the final piece to our forward line!
An unplanned interview! So Ch9 just has camera crews hanging round Adelaide golf courses to interview random golfers?
It was a setup to put pressure on the Dees.
Still Harry stays a Dee until end of 2025 season unless the trade assets Adelaide offer at end of 2024 can be used to secure a quality replacement key forward.

2nd trade period in a row we've done a favor for Paul Connors which is probably smart business.

Silvagni is doing his best Dordoro impersonation.
The back and forth between the clubs would be mainly by Billing's manager so no surprise that the clubs themselves haven't spoken. Silvagni is there now to sign the paperwork before 7pm for what was agreed.
Trade Radio much the better for Silvagni finding gainful full time employment!

700 a year is reported at least 650.
there is word that Saints are willing to pay some as long as they get a better draft pick in return
Reports seem to vary between 500K and 700K. If we get him for a circa 350K cap hit (which clears 150-300k for Saints) then he is a low cap/draft assets moneyball depth option. His best is good but can he be injury free and rebuild his confidence to get near his best?

Moneyball option as depth. Has skill but has struggled to get on park and probably down on confidence.
If reports are true that he has 2 years left on 500K a year and Saints are willing to cover part of contract then he could be a low cost depth option as mid/half forward type.

Apparently Tim Lamb is coming up on trade radio at 12pm.... I may break my rule this year of not listening to any trade radio to just catch what he says.
That is a true sacrificial act!

Bruce retired didn't he?
Darcy will be a KPD. They'll build around Naughton and JUH with Lobby as depth for a year or two more.
The issue for the dogs will be how many max contracts can they allocate to their forward line without impacting player retention in midfield and defence? And if JUH is offered a contract much higher than what they can offer will he stay?

I don’t want to lose Petty and I really don’t like to agree with Cornes but I think he’s right here. If Harrison has indicated that he will sign a new contract here then we should hold onto him. If not then it might be wise to trade him now when we can get as much as we can for him.
We can't trade Petty without securing a key forward replacement to replace him from Round 1 2024. We're in the premiership window and we need to win games now. That is more important than selling Petty high. And the deal offered by Crows does not come close to selling Petty high.

Haynes is 31 years old and the game has gone past him. Anybody thinking it's a good idea to bring him across obviously haven't watched GWS closely in recent times.
This talk of packaging him with pick 7 is La La Land stuff. Time to move on.
Its only a good idea if its a salary cap dump accompanied by their first draft pick from Tigers. That is fairly obvious. GWS may not be interested and it may indeed be La La Land stuff in that regard. But if it is available then Haynes actual playing ability is irrelevant. We'd be buying Pick 6 with the 2024 contract value we absorb and the list spot.

Will 6, 11 and a future first get the Reid deal through? Hope so would love him on our side.
After GC x 3 academy picks 6 might become 7 and 11 might become 13 or 14. not sure 7 + 14 + Dees 24 1st swing its.
There must be a cunning plan though. Await further developments.

Petty still isn’t proven as a forward. As a backman alone though, he is probably worth picks 10 and 20. However, he is coming off of an injury, appears home sick, and the club at present seems hell bent on off loading salary cap space, which makes me think we’ve something in the works next trade period. Could it be a forward?
So in 24 we're in the window and rely on Benny Brown and Tommy Mac to support JVR in anticipation of getting a free agent in 24 FA/Trade for 25 season?
No thankyou very much.

This would help us get a key forward I’d say
Which one. Could only trade Petty if we have a trade deal agreed for a quality key forward. By key forward I mean a player who can at least halve long balls in like Petty can by taking pack marks or bringing the ball to his feet. Petty is also smart on the lead and an accurate kick which is strangely under rated.
So who could we unlock?
Otherwise hold Petty for 24 and 25 as a key player in push for 14 and see where he is at end of 25 re going home.

They’ve made horrific list management decisions and coaching hires the last few years and now are in a position to get themselves out with a quality young list. They could take pick 2, pick 3 and trade their natural future picks for more picks and have an incredible draft hand.
They could also trade some picks for some mature players - which by all reports they are with Fisher and Stephens.
Why then are they are getting 3 extra first round picks? That is the reason everyone is upset.
The only difference between Melb 2014 and North 2023 is they have far more talent than we did at that stage.
We had Hogan, Viney, Salem, Tyson and not much else. They have Larkey, Thomas, LDU, Simpkin, Sheezel, Wardlaw and more.
Yet we were told to dig out on our own and we did. North have been given not one, not two but 3 extra end of first round picks. The AFL did nothing for them when they needed it when they started to struggle post Scott. Yet now they’re actually ready to improve quickly they get all these bonus picks? It’s disgusting.
And it’s hurting our ability to move up in the draft and bring in top end talent. Which as a small club without a recruiting advantage opens us up to fall flat on our face too.
It only takes a few more Bailey Laurie, Jefferson style flops and we are right back rebuilding ourselves.
Love the optimism!

I know a lot don't rate him, but i'd be going for Chol, i don't mind what he brings in the ruck and i think he'll offer more as a forward than Tmac and Brown are capable of at this stage.
if we could somehow work that pick 4 into the deal by including points and future picks that'd be the dream outcome, but unless we offer overs that's going to the Doggies or North
Chol offers a unique skillset: crumbing forward/second ruck!

A safe decision but not one I’d have made unless the cost of moving him on or of picking anyone else half decent up was entirely prohibitive.
He plays a soft and shaky brand of football without any spirit, flair or joy.
Seems to be mates with Gawn and letting Max make list management decisions has consistently proven to be a disaster.
Or he is experienced key position depth when our other young key defenders are young and inexperienced.

It's an old one, but... Back in the day, a church in Hawthorn put up the topic for next week's sermon: "What would you do if Jesus came to Hawthorn?". A couple of days later there was a scrawl underneath that said: "Move Brereton to centre half forward!"
I think the answer was, "Move Hudson to Centre Half forward" though at the old Glenferrie Oval Full Forward is not that far from Centre Half Forward.

Classic in window trade in. 2024 is 29yo season. Quick medium forward who can take a grab and lay a tackle. Fills a definite need on our list.

Cool beans Jayden.
My guess is BBB would be the more likely of the two to pull up stumps early, but I think he still has pleanty to offer us on the list next season. Even as a depth player at Casey he's got such great footy smarts and character that he'd be a great mentor to someone like Jefferson.
I'd also love to see BBB kick a big bag for the MFC and I recon it's still a possibility if he can get his body right for long enough.
BBB getting his body right is a rather large 'if' given his chronic knee issue. Likely to retire for mine maybe with some payout for final year.
