  1. We will get thumped by both Carlton and StKilda. The most important thing heading into a finals campaign is form...StKilda losing today is marvelous they will be desperate to not taper off heading into September, Carlton have top 4 at stake - enough said. Scully and (Insert name of draft pick # 2 here) are ours.
  2. Here is but a glimpse of the genius that is Tom Scully. Completely awestruck every time I view this clip. 0.52 brilliant kick on natural left. 1.48 look at that technique on his non preferred. And 3.59 just brilliant play.
  3. Get back to me when he plays well against a team vying for a top four position. Blind Freddy could play well against Richmond and he was far from spectacular today.
  4. Bit of Trengove footage...starts at about the mid point of the clip.
  5. We have won 3 out of our last 15 games at Etihad. To put it simply, we hate playing there. On paper the teams look fairly even although I suspect Harvey will be the difference, if he fires North win, if he puts in a shocker we should win. 19,422.
  6. Our future looks bright. Grimes is the gun midfielder we have been looking for. He is instinctive and makes correct decisions. Petterd is a great hit up forward. Jetta's appetite for the contest is fierce. We still haven't seen Strauss, Blease, or anywhere near the best of Watts. I am firmly in the list management camp, but I couldn't contain my excitement when Grimes and Petterd nailed those goals to put us in front. For one second there I thought who cares about draft picks if these are the blokes to carry us for the next 10 years I will look forward to much success. Lord have mercy on the rest of the competition if we nab Scully and/or another top 5 draft pick. Go Dees.
  7. Agreed
  8. 48 metres out straight in front. Would be immensely [censored] off if top 4 or finals were at stake. he marked it a good half second after the siren started ringing.
  9. good result. grimes and petterd goals amazing. mcmahon marked it after the siren sounded but oh well what can you do.
  10. The South Croydon U/9's could have beaten Port Adelaide that day.
  11. This team is incapable of beating either Richmond or North Melbourne. Turnover after turnover after turnover...it is pretty frustrating to watch.

    Top 5

    1. Jack Watts - Quality power forward, in time will be our Jonathan Brown. 2. Jack Grimes - Once moved into a permanent midfield position will be our heartbeat. Wouldn't be surprised if he was captain in 3 years. 3. James Strauss - Sweeper off half back with laser like right boot will set up many forays forward. Will be as important to us as Gilbee is to the Dogs currently. 4. James Frawley - Agile, strong and great closing speed makes him perfect FB for the future. 5. Liam Jurrah - X Factor up forward will win games off his own boot. Apologies to Bennell who I regard extremely highly. He has brought some flare and dash to the backline and in a couple of years (if not now) will be viewed as the steal of the draft. Has McLeod written all over him.
  13. I have a feeling this game will zap the confidence from the team. Should lose by around 9 goals, Cats at home after 2 losses in a row will be ferocious.
  14. Melbourne FC is a stupid club and have no planning for the future at all. Especially in the last draft before the concessions our list is leaps and bounds off the pace of the top clubs. The gap between Tom Scully and the next best in this years draft is huge, I have never felt this way when we have won, ever. I know what a difference Tom Scully would make to this football club and if we blow it like we did in 2007 I will be furious. All season I have been willing to lose 18 games so that we build a list capable of winning a premiership. Today the best player on the ground was Bruce. Bruce drove MFC to win today, where will they be in 3 years when we will supposedly be threatening for a premiership? Who will be left to take over the slack? Positives out of today were Petts and Jurrah, but to be honest Port were a rabble, especially their defence. We need gun players and we need them THIS year because if we don't, Gold Coast will come in and our list will be mediocre for a few years yet. Rant over.
  15. Thanks for clearing that up H...happy days! That would be a dream scenario, avoiding the wooden spoon. Go Dees.
  16. What happens if we finish 15th ahead of either Freo or Richmond, with us winning 4 games or less? We lose pick 1 (Scully) in this scenario do we not? Because looking at Freo's run home especially, if we beat them I can't see them winning another game.
  17. Butcher has really dropped off the pace. 2 goals today but unsighted for a majority of the game...like Watts V Essendon. Like the look of Dustin Martin and Gary Rohan for Vic Country, Morabito hasn't impressed me. A bottom ager called Jack Darling for WA has Jonathan Brown written all over him, too bad he will be going very early next year to Gold Coast. Waiting on Trengove...
  18. Look at WCE of 2005 and 2006: Kerr, Judd, Cousins, Selwood, Stenglein Look at Geelong of 2007, 2008, and 2009: Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Ling The first three names of each respective midfield are out and out guns. First 4 in Geelong's case. The rest of the guts benefits from the work of the guns. Both had terrible forwardlines. Their defence is as good as their midfield allows them to be. The less Inside 50's and the unrelenting pressure applied to opposition venturing inside 50 makes life easier for defenders. AFL is a midfielders game and until we assemble one that is half decent the rest of our team will look terrible. Fact. Our midfielder's are serviceable but have no offensive threat (Sylvia the exception) and certainly lack accountability. Who would want to be a defender for the MFC with the ridiculous amount of I50's the opposition racks up, often with little or no pressure on the ball carrier. Who would want to be a forward for the MFC when passes are often delivered to their feet or over their head. Please Barry Prendergast get us some gun midfielders this draft it is all I want out of 2009. I am sick of being anchored at the bottom. Put Aaron Davey into the forward-line he is more damaging with 15 touches playing half forward then 30 off half back. That is all.
  19. I watched Masten during the U/18 championships in 2007 and at the time I remember drawing comparisons to Bartel. Workhorse, gets the contested ball, gets clearances for his team, but very one paced. On the other hand when I see Scully I see some of the brilliance that GAJ serves up week in week out. Just the explosive pace away from the contest and making the right decisions on a regular basis. An instinctive midfielder who tears away from the contest and then finishes is what we are crying out for.
  20. That must be a joke. Tom Scully is better then Masten in every facet of the game. And I mean every facet. You wouldn't be able to tell if Scully was a lefty or a righty because he is equally as good on both sides. He is explosive, beautifully balanced, and sees the game one step ahead of every other player on the field. I will be very disappointed if we don't inject him into our midfield using our number 1 draft pick.
  21. Tom Scully. Clearance machine. That is all.
  22. F**K. Looks pretty serious. Most likely ankle...hope it's not a break.
  23. Yesterday's game against Geelong made me realise the ridiculous amount of players currently on our list that just aren't up to AFL standard. Playing against the best of the best only emphasized this realisation. When I saw Joel Selwood lining up against Lynden Dunn on the wing, I covered my face with my hands. Out of frustration and envy for the game breakers that Geelong possess. We seem to have a lot of players around the 190cm mark that are neither here nor there. They aren't key position, yet they aren't midfielders, they lack pace, and they most definitely cannot kick. Another player that fits into this category is Matthew Bate. Sure he works hard but when the ball comes to him he is just a repeat fumbler, clanger king. It's just painful to watch these players of 3-4 years experience serve up the same slop that they have game after game, year after year since they debuted. I would forgive a young player like Bennell, who mind you is proving to be more then capable of playing at the highest level, but not the players who after 4 years on our senior list still can't string two good games together. Or even one. I thought our young players performed reasonably well yesterday which gave me hope for the future, but realistically there is a lot of culling to do before we can have a serious tilt at a flag. Thoughts?
  24. I 'denegrate' Cameron Bruce because I personally think Green had a better year? Because I have an opinion? That is the most ridiculous, ignorant post I have read on this site. Ever.
