  1. Fair to say we won't see Jamar kick another bag of 5 any time soon. Jamar has taken 6 years to come good? He was good in 2006 and got injured when we needed him most in the SF against Fremantle. That is the story of his career, injured when we need him. He's played 31 games in 3 seasons, and 7 in 2009. I'm not willing to back him to remain injury free (especially at 27 next year) for an entire season so we are better off using him to get pick 8 which could deliver us a Ben Cunnington or Dustin Martin.
  2. I reckon Jamar & 18 for Pick 8 is a win for both parties.
  3. Sorry, not following. I've read my opening post and as far as I'm concerned we need to get it done if the opportunity presents itself. If you don't like my opinion, too bad I guess.
  4. Butcher won't be available at 8, what other quality talls would you be willing to pass on Trengove/Morabito to grab at 8?
  5. For what purpose? Hmmm lets think. We have a list at the moment in which a lot of our young brigade will be peaking at the same time, and pushing for a premiership. We have GC draft concessions in the next few years, and we have Jamar who is a decent enough ruckman but not untouchable. Then we have Port who's ruck stocks are in dire straits. Not saying Jamar is worth pick 8, but a package could do the trick. For what purpose?! That question is as ignorant as it comes. We are building for the future and another top 10 draft pick in this particular draft would be invaluable.
  6. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...2-19742,00.html Could we get our hands on it? Come on BP and Bails, get it done.
  7. Of all the trade suggestions going around this has got to be up there with the worst. Tom Lonergan...*shudder*
  8. There are better midfielders than Cunnington in the draft. Trengove is more polished, in my opinion is more likely to go between 4-10.
  9. Hodge won't leave the Hawks, what other big name players' contracts are up at the end of the season?
  10. Please note that I am firmly in the Trengove camp in relation to the Trengove/Butcher debate. However if the following occured prior to the draft I would be firmly in the Butcher camp. TRADE WEEK TRADE 1 (3 WAY) Melbourne give: Warnock, Pick 18 to Hawthorn Hawthorn give: Pick 9 to Port Adelaide Port Adelaide give: Travis Boak to Melbourne TRADE 2 Melbourne give: Brad Miller to Sydney Sydney give: Pick 22 to Melbourne DRAFT DAY Melbourne hold picks 1, 2, 22, 34, 50, 66 Pick 1 - Tom Scully Pick 2 - John Butcher Picks 22, 34, 50 - Best available OUTS Robertson (Delist) Wheatley (Delist) Johnson (Delist) Warnock (Trade) Miller (Trade) Whelan (Retire) Pick 18 INS Travis Boak Tom Scully John Butcher Pick 22 Pick 34 Pick 50 PSD Pick 1

  12. Yes he was marking overhead. If I didn't know for a fact he had a shoulder reco, he gave off no signs to suggest it was still a problem. Looked great. My P.E teacher in year 11, 3 years ago, was also the assistant coach of the Oakleigh Chargers. He said Jimmy was one of the best trainers for his age group in his time at Oakleigh. Says something about the kid. Work ethic is everything in the AFL.
  13. Spotted Jimmy Strauss down at surrey park oval doing slow laps and kicking the footy with a mate. Looks to have bulked up and seems as fit as a fiddle. Bullet like passes to his mate on both right and left boots and I was extremely excited. Simply can't wait to see him play in '10 and I have a feeling he will become a fan favourite.
  14. Sorry Jack7 I'm going to have to agree with Sylvinator on this one. Using Geelong of 2007-Present and WCE of 2005-2006 as case studies...An A list midfield can make an awful forward line look dangerous. Not the other way around. If the ball isn't coming down to the forwards in a manner that gives ANY forward a decent chance, you will not win many games. You can add the current Doggies team to that list. I also believe that Blease, Strauss, Scully and some of the older players have the potential to become a really good midfield group. However, having monitored Strauss' junior career and U/18 carnival I believe he will develop into a HBF designated kicker role - much like Wheatley for us or Gilbee for the dogs. You say that we need a 60-70 goal per season forward, Watts in a few years will hopefully be that and Liam Jurrah has kicked 20 goals in 9 games. Take into consideration that Jurrah hasn't had a pre-season, and the fact that the delivery to him has been mediocre...he could easily become a 50+ a season goalkicker. Add Bate and Wonaemirri to that list and the forward line actually looks very dangerous granted the delivery to them is excellent. One last point is, a premiership winning midfield is one which not only assists the forwards but kicks goals themselves. Trengove can find the big sticks, don't you worry about that. Who out of our current midfield crop are proven goalkickers? I can list 3 - Green, Morton, and Sylvia. Even then Morton only chips in now and again...and Green is coming towards the end. Goalkicking midfielders are invaluable. Which is why we shouldn't hesitate to take the best available in the draft with selections 1 & 2... and in my opinion that is Scully and Trengove.
  15. Depending on whether we go mid/mid or mid/kfwd with 1 & 2, either Panos/Carlisle or Tapscott. I am loving each and every scenario.

    Wrecker

I laughed out loud on the radio broadcast when during the last quarter the following special comment was made - "Matty Whelan looks like he just wants to hurt blokes now, he's thrown in the towel" Love you Wrecker you have entertained me thoroughly during your time as a Demon. When you flicked the switch in your brain that said "Kill someone" it was one of the funniest and heartwarming sights in the modern AFL game. Retire the 45!
  17. His kicking ACTION is fine. He can't hit targets and often looks rushed. It's only my opinion, I have never rated him...not everyone has to agree Dan! Deemissioner out.
  18. Mate I saw that, along with his game against V.C at Etihad, along with his game against West Perth...and guess what? I still don't rate him! I am not being sucked into this hype surrounding his 'potential upside' and his amazing 'athletic abilities'. I am sick of watching players get drafted on potential and athletic ability. If you can't kick, I don't want you playing for the MFC. It is time to get some pure footballers at this club.
  19. Anthony Morabito = A poor mans Daniel Wells.
  20. Morabito is nowhere near Trengove. His ability to hit targets is questionable at best, he's selfish, and finally he is nowhere near as hard at it as Trengove. We don't need any flashy hit and miss players with our number two selection thankyou very much. I want a no frills surefire gun. Scully > Trengove > Daylight > Rest of U/18 midfielders. That's just my opinion of course
  21. I realise that there are massive problems at Port which is reflected in their on-field turbulence. I am of the opinion that Williams is past his use by date, and that the players aren't 'with him' so to speak. I am not sure why you think the playing group is divided? You think that there is a division between those senior players who are united behind Williams and those who aren't? No idea why they offered him a 2 year contract, blatantly obvious that they need a breath of fresh air throughout the club.
  22. Where are all of these rumours stemming from? Boak and Pearce would be devastating losses for Port. I am not buying it.
  23. I wish we had two Jack Grimes', one in the midfield and one in the backline! On a more serious note, shame about Bate...had a solid season. Hopefully all the injured boys can have a big pre season, especially Blease and Straussy.
  24. Freo whooping Essendon... no chance of us losing the number 1 pick now. Welcome to the MFC Tom Scully. It has been a nightmarish second half to the season, and I'm gutted that I found myself in a position of barracking against my beloved Demons. 1 & 2 would be nice and we should still get them, however I will be barracking for us hard against the Saints. Well done to DB and co. for delivering us the best young talent in the land. Would have been nice to avoid the wooden spoon and still get the number 1 pick but in a few years (fingers crossed) we will have a premiership. Lets go Dees.
