Personally, I think Hardwick's comments are about the most sensible that I've heard to date. If we must have Free Agency (and, it seems we must...!), then restrictions like this to stop the top clubs pinching all the good players can only be a good idea, in my humble opinion.

Well done, Shannon! Has clearly been a committed club man who gave his all at both Geelong and Melbourne. Thanks for your contribution to the MFC, and all the best for the next phase of your life. If you tackle it in the same way you tackled your footy, you will be a great success!

How on earth did that Flag ever get out of the Club's possession? There were no Premiership Cups back then, so this Flag was the only tangible symbol of that win. I'm staggered to think it wasn't on display at the Club

Vagg put in a blinder, and won the game off his own boot...???

Okay, for the benefit of those of us not in range of Melbourne radio, please name them and shame them...!!!

Great stuff! Thanks for the pics!

Can't really add a lot to what's already been said. But, want to add my esteem for Nev to the thread. To be de-listed, then rookied back, then get upgraded, and to turn it on like he has is just a wonderful story. Says a lot about his character! Well done, Nev! Long may it continue!

Good to see my namesake had an influential part in burying the old enemy!

Deanox has the explanation spot on. Leave the song alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great article. Now, let's just go out there today and blow the old foe off the park!!

Just a pity this game isn't played on Monday, at the MCG prior to the main event, like in the old days, with the Reserves playing before the Seniors.
-
Agreed, George! There's some real talent in that Casey team, with heaps of up-side! Exciting times! Now, let's get REALLY excited, with a big win over the old foe on Monday! (Would be nice, as an Entrée, for Casey to Roll the Magpie seconds the day before...!!)

Well done, Jake. Personally, I think the guy has a lot of up-side to him, and he will continue to improve. Fact is, he's played only a handful of games. Give him another year or so under Roos, and who knows what he might produce?

Well done, Tom!

Every good establishment has a solid Dunny down the back! Very glad to see the MFC is gonna keep theirs! I, too, am thrilled at the way he's really blossomed in recent times. Very happy for him, and even more pleased that we get to keep him.
-
Well done, Rohan! Very pleased for you, and I hope you continue to excel in the Red & Blue, with your next 50 games contributing to the success of the Dees!

All too precious! As someone else pointed out, "Dees" is simply an abbreviation of "Demons". Nothing wrong with it, and I really don't know how anyone could consider it soft. But, go figure! GO DEES!!!!!!!!!!
-
That's funny. Back when I went to a US College, that's one of the chants that went up at the basketball! "DEE-FENCE! DEE-FENCE! DEE-FENCE!!" (And looking at that spelling again, with the "dee" for emphasis, it has added meaning for us dee supporters, eh! Too funny!

DD, have another look at the video clip. That piece of play was AWESOME in anybody's language. Credit where credit is due!!

I realise someone had to make way for Garland. But, I can't help feeling for Alex. Really don't think he's put a foot wrong since coming into the side. Only possible positive is that, maybe, he needed a rest and chance to freshen up. Can't really argue with the choice of who had to go, either, given the two other obvious choices (Pedersen & Dunn) have both been playing good footy. I guess it's a good sign when it's not easy to decide who to drop to make way for someone who needs to come back, such as Col...

I'm looking forward to the debate in years to come, similar to what we are hearing now with the Abletts. "Which was greater? Father or son?"

Absolutely! It was poetry in motion...! A sheer joy to watch!

Now that the farce of the past few days, with the MRP & Tribunal bringing the game into disrepute, is behind us, it is time to acknowledge Jack's absolutely brilliant piece of play against the Crows. It seems to me that the collision part of the play has totally overshadowed exactly what happened through that entire sequence that has now been played before our eyes endless times over the past few days. It's time the football world took note of exactly what happened -- all the way through... Let me explain. The ball bounces in no man's land, with two large players attacking it from one direction, and young Jack attacking it from the other. The ball bounced to Lynch, who took possession and was immediately tackled. There's then the well publicised collision. All three players fall to the ground. The two big guys are hurt, and remain on the ground. But, there's is where it gets really good... Jack, who had braced so well for the impact, although he also went to ground, was not hurt. (His training to learn to protect himself in such situations had paid handsome dividends!) Not only that, he still had his mind on only one thing -- the ball. Although still on the ground, he managed to take possession of the ball, evade an opponent, and dish off an excellent hand ball, finding a team mate in the clear. It's a fabulous piece of play, and epitomises everything that's great about the game -- courage, tenacity, determination, skill and the total commitment to the ball, no matter the risk or the possible cost to the individual. Would have to have been pretty much Play of Day, and clearly demonstrated what a gem we have in young Jack! Makes the way it has been treated by the MRP and the Tribunal that much more of a total farce, and the reason why I label it clearly as one of the worst cases of bringing the game into disrepute in living memory! Shame, AFL, Shame!! I'm just so proud of Jack, the MFC and the wider footy community for sticking by him to ensure justice was finally done. Oh, and I understand Daniel Cross was quoted yesterday as saying young Jack will end up be the best of our young midfield group. Kinda hard to argue with that! Go Dees!

Sorry, DD. No disrespect intended. However, the entire footy community is up in arms over this, and they are entitled to ensure the AFL gets the message loud and clear. I have no doubt that can be done, while still maintaining the integrity of the Pink Lady event.
