  1. 6. Petracca 4. fritsch 3. Kossie 3. Nibbler 2. Langdon 1. McVee
  2. We need more speed and clean ball use around the centre bounce - did Kossie go in there at all tonight?
  3. Good coaches have worked us out. Pick your way fwd out of defence then get into or behind our defenders with speed and chaos ball. Beat us on the outside at centre bounce and repeat dose. Find players in space and dont kick to May/lever or take them away from the ball. Pressure the receiver always and spread fast. Job done. Our forwards and mids dont adjust and push up hard enough on kick outs when the other side is moving the ball too easily - too much guarding grass. Tonite should not have been close - seriously outpointed for three quarters - that said we could and should have pinched it. Sleepless night for JVR - he will learn. Much work to do...
  4. He isn't flashy but does what he does well on most occasions - clean by hand and foot, strong over the footy, smart around goals. Looks to be being seen/developed as more of a mid and we all know there is a long queue there. Got a good footy brain - does little things that perhaps go unnoticed in the flow of the game. Wouldn't be surprised if he is chased by one of the cellar dwellers looking for a solid, big bodied mid - but hope we keep him on. Better value than Harmes??
  5. I have read Between the Flags and if you care to fully read it, I think you will find that it well covers/addresses all the circumstances, comments and questions above - the author dives deeply into all the contributing factors and backs it up with numbers and references. If you want to understand all that better, as well as post-zoning events and factors, and re-celebrate our more recent better times., I can thoroughly recommend the book.
  6. Great news - a real boost for the Club. How are all you bad-mouthers feeling now???? Some of the venom in this chat was unbelievable.
  7. Time to throw the switch. In the absence of TMac, our lack of big man contesting/marking inside fwd 50 is hurting us big time. Neither Weid (who admittedly made the most of his opportunities last night) or BBB (on one leg) are able to go toe-to-toe with big defenders in marking contests to at least give a contest and bring ball to ground - or even mark a few. Gawn can't be there all the time and Jackson in down on form or fitness. With Tomlinson back in the side and pretty solid, and Lever likely to return, its time to throw Petty forward to add some overhead capacity, and a bit of mongrel - remembering he went forward early in his career (against Dogs ironically) with some success. Chandler is banging down the door often this year, and although a different player to the largely defensive Spargo, deserves a crack at his spot to add some goal kicking and overhead ability (for his size). While Harmes had an ordinary one last night, he has been very good at times this year, and often adds some midfield bite when the usuals aren't getting it done. Melksham stays in for me - conceding he doesn't get a lot of it, his intelligent, skillful kicking adds some much needed composure to the fwd line, and he can usually be accountable for a defender. Would like to get Hunt back in for some dash but realistically a bit hard to see who makes way. If Jordan is managed (as suggested elsewhere) that might be the in - remembering he can play forward or back so gives good coverage also, I would make that change. We really need a bit more run and carry out of defence at the moment to unsettle the opposition - Langers is being sat on lately and can't be expected to do all that every week.
  8. Great read for the devoted. I know first hand that Ian has put years of professional research and interviews into this self-publication - without knowing at the time that a Premiership was in the offing. As a passionate fan himself, Ian not only taps into what a largely miserable time it has been to be a Dees supporter these last 57 years, but keenly explores the why, and then relives and re-examines the path to the joy of the 2021 season. Highly recommended.
  9. Watched the whole game at Arden Street - first personal look at the VFL side this season. Notwithstanding the quality of the opposition, the things that stood out to me were: - JVR: echo much of what is said here. Has speed, hits up hard, good below his knees, plays a team game with smart handball, watches the ball, competes strongly whatever his position in the contest, good smarts, hands and nice kick. They may want to have a look at him at senior level if he can produce consistently. Definitely excited about this guy. - Bedford: everywhere, linking up, tackling, and the blistering speed, plus some good finishes - too good for this level. - Dunstan: also too good for this level, doing in on the bit - excellent in traffic and good disposal (the knock on him at St Kilda) - Weid: On the positive, worked hard (as always), crumbed a few, and noticeably, to me at least, he was launching in packs - if he could clunk half the ones he gets good hands on he would be a champ, plus still pushed off the ball a bit too easy, although not as much as last season. Its the same knock on him... Not have Mitch Brown in the forward line gave him much better looks IMO. - Laurie: agree with the Spargo comparison but probably quicker, cleaner, better kick? Very skilled. - Majak: had a picnic today, sentimentally, be good to see him get a game at AFL level, but obviously not as a result of injuries to Max or Jackson - a rest for Max at some stage??? - Woewodin, Deakin Smith, McVee, Rosman all did some good things. Noticeable overall was the tackle intensity, strength around the ball. At the last huddle Corrigan was continually reinforcing the 'play your role' mantra.
