  1. Come along to the Austar Arena in Ballarat this Sunday for lunch with fellow Demon lovers. Currently negotiating with Chris Connolly to see who will be attending from the Club. Then watch the Zebras take on the Roosters. Can't wait to see Newton, Martin, Morton etc in action.

    TIME: 12 noon

    COST: $25

For more information and bookings, contact Ralph on Phone 54612980

  2. FWIW I reckon Jones, McLean, Moloney & Sylvia (and Neitz and Whelan) are all tough. The club diagnosed years ago that we lacked hard ball winners in the middle and thus we now have these blokes, to the credit of the recruiting process they were able to address the weakness. However, it does not seem to have paid off like we had hoped.... perhaps because none of them have shown the consistent skill to go along with their hardness in order to really do damage. Furthermore, perhaps this certain 'phenotype?' of player goes hand in hand with a lack of pace and that has now replaced softness as our major weakness. They are all still adequately young and have room for more improvement - but it has to be said that these four horseman, considered as our future midfield, do not look anywhere near becoming the Judd/Cousins/Kerr or Ablett/Bartel/Ling type midfield that is required to win flags

My hope is that Bails knows how to develop/train/educate the hard ball winners into finishers.

I'm sure I didn't see the initial best or the potential in the cats or eagles players you mentioned

  3. Being skilled in the AFL means being able to play contested competitive football to a high level better than the next player. Any player who plays AFL is not soft so I dont see the necessary emphasis on the HARD. Godfrey was hard. He just wasn't up to AFL standard.

I think we have a differing opinion here about the meaning of words and about context. I believe there are degrees of hardness. Running out on a football field with a group of men willing to throw themselves into contests is about degrees. People use terms like "hardness" and "intensity" to describe those that throw themselves into the contest week in, week out. This is not done simply when it's "your turn to go", but is in everything you do if your hard and/or intense. People often use the antonym "soft" if your a receiver or outside player which is unfair in your example because all players are out there playing AFL footy and taking risks with their health.

Now, as an example of hard with intensity; wouldn't we like a team of young Kings (Richmond) our boy Jones, Mathews and Viney.

PS. I believe we may have recruited another one in young Cheney and we have one missing in Wheels. We definetly didn't lose one in Travis.

Would I like to see a player with the attributes of Travis and Viney? Yep, there is a Brownlow waiting for them and oh how I wish he was ours.

  4. A senior player who is on big bikkies. We need 100 % devotion and dedication. Surely some singing rubbish cant add to his 2008 preparation and planning. 2 reports in 2 weeks, and we are not looking real flash.

    Get fair dinkum Robbo.

Am I out on a limb or do others feel the same way? Do this cr@p when you are retired mate. Just concentrate on kicking goals and being 100% focussed.

Correct! you will get slaughtered for this.

    Where to start?

Why can't some singing add to his preparation and planning. I 'd think how well he is doing adds a little to how he feels about himself and the club he represents. Success breeds success. He is getting the Melbourne FC brand on TV every Tuesday night.

Did you take any note of David Hobson shouting "Go Dees" on the second episode.

"2 reports in 2 weeks", and both dismissed in a flash. Bit like yourself.

Find something to be FOCUSED on! How about a new name for yourself, what about Who's a Wanka?

  5. Those positives are fine but they're clearly not enough to win you games of football

Seriously mate, in the last 2 matches it was reasonable to suggest our absentees were the culprit - but tonight's match featured a side that is almost as good as any we will field this year

Whelan, Wheatley, Rivers, Bruce, Bartram, Dunn, McDonald, Green, Newton... 4 of them plus maybe Robbo are already out of our Round 1 side

    We're screwed

Well, pass that on to the playing group and the coaches! Why bother turning up? Have you bought your membeship yet?

If you have, then feel free to be negative and post as much as you like to be'moan our fate. Don't slash your wrists though coz we don't want to lose your contribution. If you haven't bought your membeship yet; then shut up or put up! I will shout you a dozen beers if we haven't won more games than lost by round 12, as long as you have bought a membership.

  6. The Ballarat Demons Supporter Group would like to thank all the supporters who contributed to the success of the day by their attendance, participation in the auction and other contributions.

Our supporter group would also like to acknowledge the assistance and contribution of the MFC. Chris Connolly's enthusiasm and encouragement went a long way to making the day a success.

The afternoon was a great opportunity to gain an insight into were the MFC is headed and I can say that nothing in the lead up to the season opening has been inconsistent with the info we received on the day.

Anyone present on the day will know that the money raised is going to the purchase of specific training equipment that the Club has not had in the past.

A substantial cheque will be presented to the MFC at the "family day" this Sunday 2 March.

Finally, thanks to the administrators and members of Demonology & Demonland for your comments, feedback and support in promoting the event. I look forward to a similar response next year when we plan to do something again.

    GO DEES !!

  7. dworship, what time was the Ballarat Demons function today? Maybe they held training today without the coach and a few of the players. ;)

That is so unfair of you, exposing my snare and taking my barb. I didn't really expect a reply, I think someone may have missed their bedtime if they posted.

Oh and Kyle Cheney is living with a host family in Brighton and Cam is picking him up for training each day.

  8. There is no source, but by brother and i know bruce personally and we found out the news today.

So if you found out the news today, where did the news come from? Did you speak to him? Mum? Dad? Did you receive an email?, phone call? what?

If you know it happened today, where were they training? Was Dean Bailey there?

  9. He was there this morning!!! Bit odd!! It has been confirmed on Demonology by a member who spoke to him on Monday night.

That will be me, here is what I said:-

Bode is on the senior list, I spoke to him on Monday night. He had just come back from the players trip to Thailand. He said something to the effect that, as he had spent 2 years as a rookie, when he was elevated he stayed in the senior list. Also spoke to him about other things including, he has just got his right arm out of a sling after having his shoulder scraped and cannot wait for preseason to officially start in two weeks.

If you wondered why he wasn't coming on much in the early part of the year, he had a bulged disc in his back a legacy of playing cricket as a fast bowler.

If you are wondering where I spoke to him, it was at the Ballarat Demons Supporter Group AGM. Our Group helps sponsor him. Also present were Anthony MacDonald (current Melb runner and our Patron) and Ron Maher (if you don't know who Ronny is then you haven't been around the Club much). If I get time I will post some other things in different threads that I found out during the night.

PS. DB sounds like exactly what we need and continues to grow on me.
