I couldn’t have verified it because it never happened. And I was on the phone with “my source” at halftime on Saturday night, as well as Sunday morning… no mention of it having happened again. In fact, I had to bail early on my source’s party last weekend as I took ill and she, or he, called and/or texted me every day last week to ask how I was, again… no mention of it.

I never implied your person was lying. But clearly there’s been miscommunication. Which is understandable but should be explained wherever possible.

Lets just leave it there, this isn't the forum for this conversation

It’s not that I believe it wasn’t Stafford, I know it wasn’t Stafford.

Fritta narrowly missed out on selection but that’s not due to his foot being re-injured last week, because that simply never happened.

Your source might be confused with an incident that happened late last season involving Stafford.

I think I know who your source is and clearly that person doesn’t know all the facts or is a bit confused. Otherwise, how is it that I know the details (eg who the mystery treader is) and your source doesn’t?

I wasn't suggesting it was Stafford, I was saying my source said it had happened again and I don't think you could have verified that on Saturday night. I'm also not saying my source is better than yours I'm simply stating I spoke to someone on Saturday night who I believe.

He made hating the Filth a quite reasonable proposition. He did so by adopting and challenging the Dees' experiences and silent tolerances in the 50s and 60s against the Filth and the subsequent intolerance of Filthy Privilege when it came to favourite sons of the VFL administration (in those days).  He was a great role model for younger players and a fantastic team mate for all associated with what had become a significantly weakened side. If he were playing today, he's the type of talented mongrel we should sign up - highly motivating in all aspects of the game was our Brian.

Was an absolute favorite to watch. Like most of his era he had a fulltime job as well as footy. I think he was an Aviation Firefighter from memory.

Different incident. Stafford didn’t trod on Fritta’s foot.

I understand why you believe it wasn't Stafford however I found out Saturday night the same foot was trod on again at training at the start of the week. Not as badly as the original but it explains why he wasn't selected. My source didn't know who was the culprit as Fritta wouldn't give them up and that's fair enough.

  5. Kudos to Andy for getting along to so much training this year. I've particularly enjoyed the extra reporting from yourself and a special mention to Kev Martin. Thanks also to the others who have ventured out and provided some terrific observations. I think it's appropriate to acknowledge some of the people such as Slart and Hawk, who I have disagreed with vehemently over the preseason, they have still contributed to the reports and I thank them for their contribution. Regardless of my opinions on some matters, I believe them to be passionate MFC people and say simply GO DEES!!

Wow. Very exciting end to a very meh game.

I watched it on Kayo which had the 4 wise monkeys as quarter and half time commentators, Buckley's gem for the night was; "they need to put the gas to the peddle". Truly BT worthy, the other 3 just kept going like nothing had happened. No wonder he confused the Collingwood players.

The Tippler on Wellington Parade is probably where the more discerning of our supporters end up. I've seen Rod Grinter and some of the past players group in there a few times and Hamish Blake once. I've made a decision not to go pre-game this season though as they introduced a $50 non-refundable credit card payment to book a table last year which can be a bit of a mare if your plans change at the last minute. No such problems after a game though.

I thought the Tippler closed at 1030 on Saturday.

Is there a usual place people go after the game for a few refreshing ales?

London Tavern in Richmond both before and after, although being a Saturday night game a few will head straight home.

We've always enjoyed the Hassett Room on level 2 after a game as it usually stays open for 20 to 30mins after the game.

  9. Leisurely drive down early afternoon, pick up stock for the business at Costco and Campbells, then into accom at the Amora River Walk in Richmond. Pre game snacks and beverages there. On the tram and into the Hassett Room at least an hour before the game. Catch up with a number of Redlegs we haven't seen since last season, particularly Nana 31. After the game into the Hassett Room for celebration drinks and another round of "It's a Grand Old Flag". Back on the tram to accom and watch the replay. Every chance I will crash and burn before seeing the replay, like Hardtack I've been off the booze since a week after Xmas.

Really enjoyed the Grundy interview with Whately …the more I hear him ..the more he impresses . Of particular interest was his comments about our training standards and attention to detail ..

Yes and the fact Hunter, coming from a different Club, was also surprised.

    Are you for real Wod?

We only need one KPF or ruck  or other forward to drop form or get an injury to give him a chance. There is no sense in him playing all year at Casey. He needs the challenge of AFL this year for sure. Your thinking is even more negative than Goody's about giving young Casey players a go in the AFL.

JVR deserves to have this season a go in the AFL as you said he is young.

He can debut and see if he is up to it and learn along the way.

Yes, if to cover injuries/resting players, otherwise he waits. I would be ok with him coming in when we are 3 games clear at the top of the table with 2 games to play and his form warrants it. Playing devils advocate; if Schache catches fire at Casey and kicks more goals/performs better than JVR, I would bring Schache in as cover.

I reckon Laurie has some talent. He is at roughly the same position that JJ and Sparrow were at after 2 years on the list. And he has come into a premiership team

    Give him some more time

He isn't out of contract till next year but does need to show something at Casey this year.

Cornes is hanging onto a comment made last year during trade period. "In love with Melb, but not the city."

I'll try again, a comment by who? Your correct that this what Cornes keeps trotting out and you've stated it was made last year during the trade period, who by Cornes? I don't recall Kozzie being interviewed by Cornes and I just don't see Kozzie seeking out someone to tell them this.

Losing a generational ruckman and small forward in the space of 12/24 months would be pretty disgraceful let alone just after winning a flag, club will need to have a look at itself and what went wrong if it ends up that way. We haven’t even started talking about Rivers yet who is also out of contract and from WA

It's the Boards fault, just ask Hawk the Demon

Thanks Ethan, a number of interesting and important issues here.

However, I shall make no comment because I cannot stand Rita Panahi - a sanctimonious, headline hunting, self righteous excuse for a journalist whose carping adds little to any serious debate and whose sole raison d'être appears to be promulgating the views of her political masters.

    Well said BBO

Actually, the failure to renew is my mistake, not the MCC's. Where the MFC has failed is that its website does not tell me whether my membership has been renewed or not. I had just assumed it was renewed. The only reason I checked was because I did not receive voting papers for the recent election. Now I know why.

    There's your issue right there.

Kayne doesn’t let this go. Going with it for the past 2 nights in SEN.

I've heard him go on about this several times and he always says Kozzie hates Melbourne (the place, not the Club). But what is his source for that comment? As an aside, did anyone on here interact with Kozzie at the family day and how was his demeanor?

If it were me, I’d change my game plan and start talking footy so that people would start listening to me.

On current evidence, the likelihood of anyone listening to Hawk regarding any matter, diminishes every time he posts.
