  1. Yes, but because we have already committed to taking him, clubs will make sure we use our first pick. It is in their interest for us to use our first pick on Jack Viney. Pure game theory.
  2. rpfc is above emoticons...
  3. He may be introverted when it comes to public attention and having a twitter account, but that doesn't mean he is an introvert at the club, nor does it mean that he cannot influence those around him with the way he goes about his footy. Nathan Jones felt this way before Tom had played a game.
  4. I agree that hwe has only the two offers to think about. I disagree that he has to do it now. He has always maintained he will decide in September. As tiresome as Blucher's "in between training sessions" meme can be, to decide now would be giving in to the pressure and he should hold steadfast to what he has said all along. And it makes it look like all he cares about is the cash - as he signs once our offer got high enough. He can wait, and so can we. I don't see the issue, if this is a distraction for the club then they need more help than I thought. 1. The players shouldn't worry about this, if Colin Sylvia is upset about the Scully negotaiations then that is the height of hypocrisy. 2. The Admin should get on with planning for both eventualities (and not tell David Schwarz they are - because why should they tell him) 3. And Tim Harrington should plan for Tom signing a $600k contract, or having an extra $600k to spread around... Distraction mitigated and problem over.
  5. With all due respect - extraversion isn't leadership. And someone's leadership isn't defined by whether or not that will have a debatedly helpful presser. What questions do you think he will answer so that they won't continue to be asked? He has always said he will wait till the end of the season and that is what he would say once again. A press conference will feed the hungry journos but they are like pigeons - it will just mean they will hang around longer. The next presser I want to see is either him re-signing or him in plain clothes. And that can wait until September.
  6. I think we can reasonably assume that the earliest pick we have in that draft will have to be used for Viney. Clubs are not idiots and they will make sure we pay the highest price.
  7. Are you you?
  8. Of course it is skewed. But Tom's influence on the field is not where his influence ends - he is the ultimate professional off the field and obviously a very driven individual. Our lack of decent leaders amongst the playing group should illustrate how important driven kids like Tom can be. I realise it isn't just him that would be considered a strong leader amongst our under 23s, but that aspect would be a huge loss if he does decide to go.
  9. Matthew Bate is in danger of being sent packing... (Boom) Lynden Dunn should be traded... (Crash) This is apart of footy and we do it every year. I don't see the odiousness of talking about such a part and parcel aspect of the game as list management. Deletions are the foundation of list management.
  10. That leads to tender chicken...
  11. It was TOC. All those things have been said about Tom Scully. That was the balance of my point.
  12. Huh? It's list management. They are big boys. I'll start - I think Warnock will be delisted. (Shock horror)
  13. Whoosh! It was a joke.
  14. You have to go to the draft and complete 3 selections. I will have to check the rookie upgrades but I believe they are not counted in the three. Trades don't count.
  15. I don't want Colin to hold us to ransom... He will take what we can afford or he can leave... His kicking isn't that great either... He's not worth that figure now and we don't now if he ever will... He wasn't smiling at the membership drive in the 6 minutes I saw him there - this means he doesn't love the club... He has to decide now whether he is with us, or with the terrorists...
  16. You have to pick three kids in the draftHO, that is what they are saying. That means, with trading, you still have to have three less players at the draft than you do right now.
  17. The situation is unique, the timing is not. That is what Jack Trengove was saying.
  18. If we lose him than we may as well keep Bailey whatever happens toward the end of this season because it will again push back our window - more than losing Scully would. Losing both would mean a couple of years in my opinion.
  19. Yeah, prime trade material... He's suddenly a mug, whose teammates no longer trust him - how is that for a red herring...
  20. It won't end it. But as long as the tense is correct (ie. 'Will Tom go?' rather than 'Is Tom gone?') then it should be fine.
  21. It's in the rules so I don't know how ferocious we have to be... And I'm guessing you were being flippant with the withdraw of contract comment?
  22. I cannot boo a player that wears that jumper. Please explain how one can do that. I understand it, but I don't comprehend.
  23. "GWS - So you are offering the compo picks? MFC - Yeah, and Bate and Dunn. GWS - Oh, ok. So you are offering the compo picks?" Stop overrating our depth players, they don't play AFL well.
  24. The stupid article says we can get TWO players. I am happy enough with the logic that the mid-round pick and a player might get you one of these 17 year olds. I do not see how the second compo pick at the end of the first round gets you the SECOND 17 year old, which is where the article become fanciful, if it wasn't there already.
  25. I was talking about that in the abstract. I am troubled by people thinking that pick 10 and Pick 20 in the 2012 draft will be the same as Tom Scully (I am making two assumptions: 1. We don't trade the picks, and 2. We use them in the next unspoiled draft). The kids we get will be more speculative and will push back our window. That's my point. And that's why I hope we trade those picks, or at least one, for an established player.
