As I recall we did have Gus and Salem for most if not all of those games.   Suck depth of experience us hard to suddenly replace

I did forget about Gus, but I don't recall Salem getting much midfield time in that period, although I could be wrong.

But it was Viney and Sparrow who really lifted, both played some career best footy.

I think the 2 games prior were both similar, we conceded the territory battle in both and relied on sling shotting when we won it back in defensive 50, it was always a risk if a team could force a stoppage inside our d50 or mark the ball we would be punished. If we can’t start winning more territory which primarily comes down to either winning the clearance or putting enough pressure on the clearance disposal to force a turn over we will be an unreliable team this season. A lot will hinge on Oliver getting fully fit as i don’t see Sparrow or any other mids stepping up enough to fill his shoes

We won 7 out of 10 games without Oliver last year. Clearly there is some depth.

This is called randomness or noise. There are hundreds of decisions to be made every game and there is an element of randomness in those decisions due to the 'grey areas', as you say. But over the course of a game, a season or an era, it doesn't affect it as it's just noise. This randomness only makes the most miniscule of differences to a result, if any.

Think about it like somebody walking in the park with a dog on a lead. The dog will wander all over the place, but by the end of its walk it ends up near the owner holding the lead. The owner is the trend, as they just walk in a straight line towards the end of the park, whilst the dog is the noise. In the end it doesn't matter what the dog does because the owner determines where they end up.

In football, the team performance is the owner and the umpire's performance is the dog. Worrying about what the dog's doing is a fool's errand.

You never met my last golden retriever, Bella.  What I wanted to do was the last thing on her mind.

Gee Petty loves to be a pest. Would be annoying to play on. Was at Alir all night.

Excellent point. When Petty went to Alir, Alir seemed to lose his influence, and up to that point was probably in their best. It seemed to free up BBB as well.

Can see multiple people beat me to it. I had the 4K come up on Kayo diagnostics. Honestly couldn't tell the difference from the 4K and HD. i have a 65 inch OLED using an Apple TV 4K.

I have noticed a lot of buffering issues with Kayo so far this year - never had this issue previously.

I have only watched the Sydney game, and the Carlton community series game on Kayo so far, and I had the opposite experience. Last year I had heaps of buffering issues, so far I have had none. Long may it stay that way.

Typical reaction about Howes. Yes he was poor but give him another go please. He may not be a defender so release him to the wing or half forward but don’t  cruel him as without ability and stamp his potential.

If you look closely at the sentence I was quoting, I was pointing out that Howes, like Windsor, hasn't had an opportunity to prove himself at AFL level.  I was not bagging him.

Nas, do you think he might be a "whipping boy" because all the others you mentioned - except Windsor - have proven themselves at AFL level, whereas Laurie, after 3 full seasons with the club - and a first round pick to boot - simply hasn't?

    And Howes

    Have a great Christmas all

ive had a bad couple of months. The ticker is on the fritz, in a bad way, caught it just in time. i’m even off the booze for good. and my mum just got discharged from 6 weeks in hospital post cancer surgery.

    Hoping for a better 2024!

Hope you and your families are healthy and happy and go Demons

Same thing happened to me @DubDee in 2020. Pandemic, Mum died, hospital 4 times with the heart and gave up drinking alcohol. Within 12 months I bought a new house in a town I have always loved and we won the first flag in my lifetime.  The good times will come.

  9. i was born after he retired from playing, but for me as young lad he was the Melbourne Football club. When he returned to coach in 81, it like the second coming. It didn't work out in the end, but he set the tone for a revival under Northey. Humble, generous with his time and a Demon to the end. he will be missed.

just visually, last week the southern stand seating area on lvl2 seemed to have the most spare seats

would these be corporate no shows?

I thought there were a few empty seats in the MCC upper level from where I was sitting.
