  1. Bailey Laurie AFL statistics:

    Disposals:

    2023

    4,4,14,9,5

    2024

    8

the bloke has been a sub a lot, I get that, but no matter how you look at it, he is an underwhelming AFL prospect. He consistently plays well at VFL level, but cannot make the step-up to AFL standard.

In the Sydney game, his poor disposals cost us dearly. You cannot get away with mistakes at AFL level that might be covered at VFL level. Turnovers are crucified at the top level.

He had 5 possessions in the QF against Collingwood. We basically played a man short, pardon the pun, in that match.

He can continue to build his form at VFL level. He is not required in the seniors at this stage. Great that he is laying tackles…but I am yet to see the same against AFL bodies. His tackle stats at AFL level:

    2023

    1,0,1,2,2

    2024

    1

I’m sorry, it’s a hard no from me. Much prefer the experience of Hunter, or to blood young Pup Brown

Another fail by the footy department, going to miss ever more games on top of offering nothing that last 2 games. Could have been fit and ready to play tigers after the bye if we were smart

Pretty sure they’ve said he won’t miss any football, provided all goes to plan

He’s had 3 pre seasons. No one’s saying he needs to be playing like Wayne Carey but he’s dropping basic marks and has no forward craft. If he doesn’t lose his man and is flying towards the ball, he has no tricks, very ordinary 1 on 1 and average at ground level. Who knows how good he will be at this stage, it’s up in the air, could go either way.

It’s the dropping of marks that is a worry. He has very hard hands at the moment. Gets to the right spot but can’t clunk them. If we could get Petty’s marking with Roo’s kicking we’d have a decent forward

We could potentially try man on man, Port did it against Essendon, but that’s Essendon. Man on man against brisbane probably just creates acres of space for guys to lead in to and opens the corridor.

There was a noticeable demand at times to push the half backs up and shrink the ground.

But the Lions are so well drilled at overlapping numbers and moving in and out of spaces to create kicks.

Even if we were getting smashed we only conceded 12 goals, only 10 to 3/4 time and the worst quarter for goals conceded was the first with 4.

Brisbane are going to posses the ball and move it well, that’s what they do. And they’re going to score.

We were completely smashed at the contest and had no flow in our own ball movement. The transition defending was a far lesser problem in the scheme of things.

Transition defending is one thing, allowing a ball to waltz in from a kick in and be systematically chipped all the way to the oppo half forward is another. That’s not transition. We were setup.

  5. I had a bad feeling all week about this match, knowing we had a lot of guys sore and banged up.

what I cannot stomach Is Goodwin’s inability to change the tactics in-game again. We allowed far too much uncontested ball. Their ability to simply pick their way uncontested from their backline to ultimately hitting up a leading forward was really concerning.

Yep. I saw and reported a few comments on Instagram

    Humanity is trash

Social media is vile. However, some of the stuff SEN ran on its talkback was just as bad. Andy Maher was loving it.

Not such a good morning, weather wise. As I arrived, it starting raining, settled into watching some Victory players have a kick around.

The MFC squad come out as the rain abated, they had wide smiles as the walked down the roped corridor. Plenty of joy from the supporters towards them, kids everywhere, maybe about 500 to a 1000 of us.

Rehab/light duties, Hunter, BBB, TMac, McAdam, Bowey, Chandler, Melky, Sestan, AMW.

Chandler was doing enough running to suggest he will be right.

I expected Hunter to be in the main group, must have had a setback.

Looks like they are working on the fitness of Sestan.

BBB and TMac are managed, no obvious hindrances, and the easy recovery run is usual for them.

A surprise with AMW, just as we were suggesting he is nearly ready, he goes into rehab. I couldn't tell what the problem was.

No Spargo or Hore, and I cannot remember seeing Turner (?).

They split into three stations, short kicking, a kind of soccer competition of kicking the ball down the field with finesse  from outside the line, and a structured handball game.

Down came the rain again for 5 minutes and then cleared.

They did some structured sims. Coaches would move the ball from the forward line and set a high mark for a backman who would slingshot it off via spread and then corridor it to either a marking forward or to a forward that brings the ball front and centre. may was moving well.

They had a couple of meetings in the middle.

Finally, they head to the boundary for extensive signings.

    Great atmosphere.

Spargo was there…was in the navy jumper, not the red like the main group

  8. Seemed to be quite a light session. Wouldn’t rule out those not completing a full session.

spoke to Maysie, he admitted his body was fairly sore. Incredible that he is playing through that much pain.

a kid asked Oliver if he was playing this week. He was taken aback by it. As if he had no idea why he’d be asked the question. So, I assume we can lock him in.

one whack for the Club though - there was a designated 10 + year members area. It wouldn’t have been in a worse spot. On a slope with little vantage at all. At the end, when plyers came to sign, Max didn’t even make his way over to that area. Given that it was described as an exclusive area for our loyalist members, it seemed that MFC staff had no coordination of what was going on.

WCW, the snags were beautifully cooked.

  9. Wait til you read Carros article in today’s Age. It seems us winning isn’t suiting the media’s death ride hopes for our season. Despite two magnificent road wins being celebrated, the media have focused on Kozzy and his light bump, Goodwin describing it as light, slandering Oliver further and how we are experiencing on and off field drama

  10. Can someone here ring in SEN and take Andy Maher to town. This bloke is a constant basher of the Dees. The entire focus of today’s programming has been slamming Pickett and discussing umpiring issues that went against Adelaide. The media hate us and we have been bashed this year. Also, Goodwin being attacked again for saying it was a “light hit”, which is factual. The media just trying to take the gloss off our wins. I am sick of calling in to defend our club, and ultimately get cut short when the narrative doesn’t suit their agenda

  11. Interesting to see that the Norwood to be the AFL 20th team debate is up and going again. How would be all feel if they were to come into the league using the monicker ‘Redlegs’, using ‘It’s a Grand Old Flag’ and wearing a jumper closely resembling ours? I cannot see us agreeing to it, but would the other clubs? What’s the deal with the voting of club presidents? Does it have to be unanimous? I think Collingwood would protest, as it’d open the debate around Port again:

interested to hear what others feel. Also, any legal eagles that have IP experience, how does the MFC protect its brand if they were to be successful

  12. I don’t mean to labour the point, but Lobb’s accurate goal kicking at one end vs Jefferson’s inability to convert at the other is the difference between the sides at the moment. Given who Casey have unavailable, it’s a bloody good effort to still be within a few goals

Must say I’m not overly worried about his kicking. It’s a shame cause him tearing a game apart in front of goal for his conscience would be great, but just the marking aspect and him getting his hands on it is awesome for him.

    Definitely something to work with.

I’m not overly pleased with it either. Clearly gets too close to the man on the mark. Has no set rhythm or routine. I mean, is Stafford doing anything with our forwards to improve them?

  14. This goal is coming as a result of Tholstrup double grabbing at a ball again..that’s what my earlier post was referring to. As a high draft pick, I think I had high expectations for this kid. So far, he looks off the pace..not sure what those who think he should be in the seniors are seeing.

well Casey does seem to be following the melbourne play book pretty well, very few if any are manning up.
