  1. it will be interesting to see if Goody makes many changes or if he takes the view the team were simply tired fro 1st 6 games and travel (whichseems to be a trend of other teams due to AFL scheduling).  thoughts are:

Out - BBB (needs a rest), Salem (inj), Kolstrup

In - Fullerton, Hore (if fit - Turner otherwise), Picket.

Borderline - Billings (has been poor) - McAdam ready?  (probably come back via 2's?)

According to the AFL web site Kynan is a B Rookie so we have an extra Rookie position?

Does this mean we did not offer a contract to Andy Moniz-Wakefield?  If so, we now have 2 rookie spots left for SPP or MSD?

Hey, DZ.  I'm not sure there is anything to worry about.

We don't know yet whether we have/haven't committed to taking him.  Let's assume we have decided to not match a bid.  If he doesn't get drafted we can have him train with us over summer and decide whether to take him as an A rookie.  We did the same with Farmer who eventually we did not sign on.

I'm with @deanox that if we don't take him it is because we have enough of his type of player and we need a bit more variety in our list.

    has he nominated as F/S?

  4. are we of the belief that Turner and McVee will be promoted to senior list?  if so, and if we remain committed to takng 2 picks in the draft (which is what has been reported) , then either go to 38 primary (which we have not done for some time), or two need to come out of the primary list.

Do we assume Melk to Rookie and BBB retire?

which will then give us 2 rookie picks to be used in draft or mid season?  Joel Smith news may likely provide extra spot at some point.

    Good size.
    Can he kick Goals?

I saw him kick 7 for the Lions at the Gabba the year before last - they had huge wraps on him then.  Daniher in and Fort as 2nd ruck behind Big O has kept him in the two's.

Lots of talent....opportunity and development - not sure

  6. Players Out - BBB (retire), Hibbo (retire), Dunstan (delist), Grundy (trade), Harmes (trade), Tomlinson (trade - he just doesnt want to be there), D.Smith (delist)

Players In -  McAdam (not sure), Chol (not a bad option as fwd/ruck - but is he hard enough), DRAFT gun young mid, DRAFT May replacement, DRAFT a 2nd Ruck option (not fwd/ruck) as Gawn getting older until Kalani White is on board and ready (that will be at least 3 years away by which time Gawn is 35+), perhaps a mature mid year option.

Players Change - Melk (extend but rookie), McVee (promote), Howes to challenge for wing spot, Jefferson to come on as KPF, continue development on Woewoedin, TMac retain as depth

Not Sure - what happened to Jed Adams?

Coaches - Stafford (out), Dew (in for Yze if he gets Tigs gig), new fwd coach

Not a Melbourne record, but in response to the last post, North are getting perilously close to the top ten of all time consecutive losses. One more loss sees them equal the longest losing streak of the past 30 years (held by the rotting carcase of Fitzroy and the expansion clubs in their early days).

Any other club and the scrutiny and criticism would be out of this world.

for the good of the AFL, I still think they should go to Tassie (they wont - but they should)

I saw an article about Fullarton from Bris.  Basketball background - Cat B, 24 yo, 200cm, athletic ruckman / forward.

Limited opportunities to break into the senior side due to Big O, Danither, Hipwood etc

Apparently a good chance to leave at the end of the year.

Haven't seen enough of him but seems to have all the tools required?

Perfect fit if Grundy goes - a bargain.  Saw him kick 7 at the Gabba in his first season and he hasnt been able to break into the Big O/Fort/Daniher combination

  10. So post trade, and with the inclusion of Chandler moving to primary list, signing Melk and Hibbo and using an additional 2 picks in the draft, am I correct in assuming our options are:

    - If we DONT delist Baker, we have 1 additional spot available on primary for a DFA + 1 rookie spot.  (noting of we dont use the additional primary spot we can have 2 rookie spots)

    - If we delist Baker, we have up to 2 spots to use for DFA if suitable and depending on how many primary spots we fill (if any more at all) we can add between 1 and 3 rookie spots?

Richmond know that while they have Lynch they need to have a midfield to get enough ball there. Bolton is just the cherry on top that can steal you a close one.

which is exacty why we need to find a key position fwd..with time on his side.  McKay? Naughton? Hipwood? King? or similar?

or do we move Tomlinson Fwd, or keep Tommo back and switch Petts fwd?

    In: Harmes

    Out: Sparrow

Really frustrated that Weideman didn’t lift last week. He was playing for a spot in our finals 22 and if that’s not enough motivation, I’m not sure what else would do it. But boy we really need another tall up forward. I think we need to blood JVR or give Weideman one last chance, replacing Melksham.

Agree...too early for JVR.  I cant believe im saying this but Weid in but let him play at 2nd tall in fwd line - it wont happen - Melk will stay

    Out -  Sparrow, Hunt, Melksham

    In - Harmes, Bowey, Weid

It's a very interesting situation and without 2 fit and in-form big forwards, we may not find out what the coaches preferred forward balancee is.  I don't mind the current balance, but it certainly worked well with two talls last year.

I tend to agree.  Lets stick with the Weid for the next couple of weeks and and allow him some consistency and continuity and not take #1 defender.  Chopping and changing in and out of the team and role is not helping his cause.  If after this run he cant impact, he may be playing elsewhere next year.

    In - BBB

    Out - Melk

  14. BBB and Fritch just doesnt work.  We need another tall to spread the 2nd and 3rd best defender.

Must play Weid for rest of season.  JVR is 2023....

Tommo had a good game and the role suited him - unfortunately he is depth at the moment - not best 22.  If Petty is back, he only stays if Lever is out.   Same with Melk - played his role but he is depth.

    In - Oliver, Weid, Petty

    Out - Bedford, Melksham, Tommo

    BEN BROWN

Ben Brown has been targeted inside 50m one-on-one 45 times this season. He has taken one mark from those battles — a junk-time grab on Marcus Adams (Lions) late in the fourth quarter. He has been out-marked eight times. The Demons don’t trust Sam Weideman or Mitch Brown and so it’s a mighty concern for Melbourne as the absence of Tom McDonald — the swingman they attempted to offload in 2020 — aches. On Thursday night the Dees took six marks inside 50m, their equal fewest this season, and the disconnection is also disarming Kozzie Pickett and Charlie Spargo while Bayley Fritsch has been accused of being goal hungry. Contrast Brown’s numbers to Geelong goliath Tom Hawkins, who gobbles 38 per cent of his one-on-ones. The next best in the AFL is Darcy Cameron (Collingwood), who marks 25 per cent of his one-on-ones.

Early Tackle: Sam Landsberger’s Likes and Dislikes from round 17

at the end of the day, alot of this has to come down to the coaches team selection as well as the consistently poor delivery by our superstar midfield into the forward line.  BB and Tmac had a good year last year because we delivered it to the forward line in an efficient way - not bomb it to packs (or just bomb it to the opposition).

Also, we drop Weid after playing him as a FT Ruck?  He is not a Ruck - He is a key Fwd who can support in Ruck if needed.  Have to play him that way and give him a run at it.  Goody chose to play small this week - which backfired.

Play Weid and BB, deliver the ball properly to them and I am pretty confident we wont be writing off these two.

Deliver it properly, and they still dont deliver?  Well, Weid is at a new club next year and JVR becomes our man.
