Sounds like he’s hungry to prove himself and fits into our program. Mature and experienced addition to our strong midfield group.  Maybe we can show faith in him by giving him the No.2 jumper for 2022.

nah can't give him the #2 lol

I think he'd look decent in the #22

Just checking and it looks like McGrath played 18 games compared to Woewodin 15 and Browne 14.

Interestingly, Twomey had Browne in his U19 team of the year but he isn't in the top 30 of the draft.

Averaged 32 touches at colts level and kicked 11 goals....

surely we're looking into this McGrath bloke?

Maynard from the pies is on the way to the dees apparently- I have no other info and are not sure how we would make it happen but industry inside info is the source .

Mate of a mate mates .

Always with a grain of salt but there it is .

    out of 10, how confident?

    he'd be a huge get!

@WA Demon Boy I think he would be 'in case of emergency break glass' for us so we have midfield depth. Clayton, Tracc and Viney may have little niggles throughout next year so Dunstan could be good for our second midfield unit.

If he wants that role then fair enough.

Surely would rather take a starting role somewhere else? I'd be stunned if he played more than 10 games for us (barring injuries from our best 22)

  5. Can we swap a few picks? Try and move up somehow?

I back our recruiting team to draft well, so this is the best avenue I'd say.

There aren't too many players out there right now that are available who we are desperate to get?

Hopefully we can move up the draft, I'd be happy just to do that and not add list cloggers lol

  6. Is he what we need though?

Wouldn't we rather see Jordon/Sparrow get more time than Dunstan.

Yes he had a nice little patch in the middle of the year, but he's also not the best kick, work rate is average and doesn't have anything that really stands out.

I like him as a player, just worried he will take minutes from Jordon and Sparrow who are developing extremely well.

I like the idea of Dunstan in red and blue. Hard bodied, don't think we've seen the best of him at the Saints

Watch Chocco weave his disposal magic on him if he does come over.

Chocco can change his kick and perhaps work some extra magic somehow, somewhere.

I don't want Dunstan to take minutes from Sparrow.

Sparrow is going to be crazy good.

If they can squeeze him in then sure, but nothing lost if he goes elsewhere I guess.

I'm more keen to get Laurie, Sparrow and Jordon more game time

  8. Still in shock this is happening, I’ve been a Dees fan since I was 5 (I just liked the colours) and couldn’t stand Freo or Eagles.

This team has put me through some psychological damage, bullying wearing the Dees kit at footy training and pure heartbreak after games like that loss to Ess in 2013.

But here we are and I am so damn pumped. It’s a beautiful day here in Perth. I can’t wait till first bounce and hopefully the nerves will settle. I’m confident we can get it done.

Feeling for you all back in VIC, but I’ve converted a bunch of WA fans to Red and Blue today.

I’ll be 100% losing my voice today.

    Let’s go.

  9. Grand Final Open Training:

    • Weather is going to be perfect for footy, maybe a touch windy in the first quarter but will be crisp for most of the game
    • Most of the crowd will be Dees fans (many here have jumped on board given our history)
    • Harmes looked like a kid in a candy shop, he’s super excited
    • Salem was taking it very easy with the drills
    • Langdons kicking is still pretty hit and miss
    • Chandler is a great kick and really like his craft. He didn’t miss a shot or target.
    • Tomlinson was watching on looking quite flat and I felt for him. Poor guy.
    • May was kicking from 40+ out. No worries at all with him and his back.
    • Bowey didn’t miss a target all session. He’s building very nicely.
    • Troy Chaplin is in a moon boot. Not sure why haha.
    • Tracc was doing his own thing for most of it just taking set shots
    • The small forwards (Sparks, Nibbler, Harmes, Kozzi) we’re doing a lot of frontal pressure work and then hitting up Tmac, BB and Fritta
    • Backs were doing marking drills and short 15m, 45 degree chip kicks then long to Gawn
    • Lever did extras with Chocco in a quick ball throw at his head and he’d get his hands out front to mark
    • Viney did extras with Chocco too. Ground ball gets and tackles. I’m tipping him for a massive game tomorrow.

Obviously a very light session but conditions are looking excellent and I’m growing more and more confident.

Feeling for you all in VIC.

    1 more sleep.

    Let’s go Dees 🔴🔵

  10. Ok so this might be a little left field but there are things I'm seeing outside of the club that strengthen my belief that we will win the flag.

I've been listening to the Gus and Gawny podcast for a while now and things like 'Positive Lingers, ' Win The Morning Club', 'Elite Ball Kickers (started by Chocco) amongst everything else that is thrown into how strong this group is is quite unbelievable. I don't know how many other clubs have these little things going on inside their 4 walls, but it's great to see how united these players are.

We've heard all year how it's been player driven and even the footage of standards (the paper cup in the change rooms etc) and little clips of the boys at training doing the number count runs. It's all adding up.

Not only was the footage great from when we won the prelim of the celebrations afterwards by all the players who didn't play, but I saw this first hand when we beat the Eagles at Optus earlier in the year. Once we won that game, all the players came over and waved a thank you to the crowd, the 2's players then came out and did a 25 min training session while the 1's players were giving them high 5's and hugs as they were walking off the ground.

Seeing all this footage makes me believe that this group is very, very special. I wouldn't typically read into these small things, but the difference it makes is so clear now. I'm still nervous don't get me wrong, but my confidence in my group who are playing for each other is unshakeable.

P.S - For anyone who thinks we should trade Gus, go and listen to the podcast. We simply can't get rid of people like this. He is a big gel for this club for relationships with players. He plays his role and plays it well (of course we'd all love him to have 30+ and kick 2), he's super valuable on and off-field.

P.PS. - this week has felt like 8 months long

Salem has been managed all year with his training load. Viney you'd think would be the same with his foot.

Salem missed one game all year with soreness. Literally 0% chance he isn't getting jabbed and suited up for the grand final. Same with Viney. I would assume Viney would cut his own foot off before missing a grand final, just like May would rip out his own hamstring.

We had a big session on Saturday, so today would be like a normal post game recovery session. Also probably why they aren't bothering to push Spargo's ankle.

Whoever doesn't do much on Wednesday is in trouble though.

There won't be any changes on our end.

Wonder how Dogs will line up though and who misses for them.

Gawn and BB have to run Keath and Martin to the ground.

  12. MFC backs v WB forwards = advantage MFC

WB Backs vs MFC Forwards = advantage MFC

Midfield - Depth (WB) (however ruck = MFC) = Breakeven

Structurally we are far better than them, in the first game we beat them quite comfortably and the second game they got the win (although I do believe weather played a part that game). I don't dismiss that lose at all but I really think we were off that game, Dogs were in good form and our mids barely got up and running.

The biggest worry for me is their midfield hitting the scoreboard. If we can reduce Bont and Smith in particular, it will go a long way because I don't really think Naughton will kick a bag on May and Weightman will either. Hannan could bob up for 1-2 but then outside of this who else can kick their goals? Scache probably won't.

Our forwards are far more dangerous than theirs. Our backs are more robust. Breakeven in the midfield and don't allow their mids opportunity to kick goals and we should win.
