  1. I really liked the fact his (theirs) attitude is ‘it is easy to fix’. I gleaned from his comments that the team have talked about this and have an actionable strategy to address it - only time will tell if that works but half the challenge is making them all believe they can control the outcome.
  2. A lot of talk about our ‘forward half connection woes’ but we had the second best % in the league and only scored, on average, 3 points per game less than Collingwood. Is the issue less about game plan/ personnel and more about the fact we’re too often on the bad side of these ‘small margins’. Not sure why or how but Collingwood consistently seem to do better in those clutch moments (and I don’t think it is purely skill related).
  3. I choose to read this as ‘Dees back 6 as frugal as ever’
  4. Who has been taking tap-outs around the ground when Max is resting in match sim?
  5. I just watched the clip and heard this from Kane: “there’s no real star-power in that line-up”. - We’ve had 2x top 10 finishers from in the Brownlow Medal in each of the last 3 years - we’ve had an AFLCA player of the year in the last 3 years - we’ve had a Norm Smith Medallist in the last 3 years - we’ve had a player kick 6 in a grand final in the last 3 years *none of the above includes Max Gawn, Kossie Pickett or Steven May. Old mate shares some truths sometimes but you really have to sift through a lot of sewerage to find them.
  6. We lost all of our 4 most important games in the past 2 years, with the lead in 3 of those games (and very close in the 4th). You’d be hard-pressed to find anything more frustrating than that.
  7. I think we’re running out of things to talk about. Bounce the ball already.
  8. Is this a thread on camaraderie/chemistry or hunger? They’re different things, right? I think camaraderie/chemistry is a really important ingredient in the success of any team and not every team gets it right. I kinda think every team is hungry at the elite level and it is less of a differentiating factor in a professional teams’ success.
  9. We’re committed to bombing it to a contest in the F50 with the intent to either mark it or bring it to ground AND we have a high number of F50 entries every game. Isn’t a stay-at-home forward (who is either strong in the contest OR has a good pair of hands) exactly what we need to be developing? Seems a missed opportunity to me that they’re not using the pre-season to get contest after contest (against the best defence in the league) into him. If he can’t run out games in the early part of his career, you always have the opportunity to sub him off.
  10. What is wrong with Jefferson? Is he injured or just not up to it yet?
  11. Petty chronic foot issue, McAdam can’t get on the park consistently and Melk not available EQUALS our forward line being as woeful as it was last year… in brighter news my MFCSS is training the house down
  12. The methodology for the ratings is actually very funny: “we docked Joel Smith 50 points”… not 40, not 60, but 50. this is now my 2nd favourite article of the pre-season - just behind “what every AFL coach should be paid” by Kane Corn
  13. Personally think that confidence, form, game plan and luck are all more important/impactful than hunger for us (and all teams in the comp for that matter).
  14. David King has visited 1 training session for Melbourne-based clubs and reckons he has it all worked out.
  15. The ‘special handouts’ co-ordinator at Kardinia Park has their work cut out for them this year.
  16. Kane Cornes and Sam Edmund glowing in their reviews of what they saw of Edmund. I don’t know if they have seen more than what we did in the vision but Volcano likened him to Sam Walsh, Edmund to Bailey Smith.
  17. On track to be a superstar for mine. Great season last year.
  18. I have never seen Sam play but isn’t he an 18yo KPF who didn’t get drafted? They take time. 2 or 3 years in our system before they get a game seems to be the norm (assuming they are good enough). Doesn’t seem a wise LTI replacement for mine.
  19. Parking on the grass, right in the middle of Olympic Park Oval also a good option. Advise locking your doors though as the space is often used as an exercise yard for local inmates.
