Very good player, would be a great get. And compliment our midfield perfectly.
Not sure where out salary cap sits, we get off the books Brayshaw $$, Tomlinson*, BBB*, T-Mac* as well as possible someone like a Spargo leaving for opportunity.
Just depends how it fits into our cap and if we can afford him.
*possibly retiring or de-listed

Hey guys.
Not all doom and gloom, i think we maybe drank our own bathwater after the SA trip.
I do have worries with Petty though, i understand he is a necessity forward atm but, I have been saying for the past 2 years that his good performances as a fwd were either against average opponents or when he was swung forward in a game and it was a bit of a surprise factor.
He is a great mark and is actually usually a very good kick, but i think he is a very good defender and the perfect replacement for May when he retires. He has to stay there now due to our tall forward stocks but is Petty as a long term forward sustainable?
I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water over this game, was set up for Brissy to win. But after the bye we better come out breathing a bit of fire!

Dropped this week after starting sub and being subbed.
He is a very good footballer and silky skills, Goody spoke about how in 2021 he killed us in every game we played them.
Would be a very good player to get.
If he requests a trade then the Dogs have 0 bargaining power, and they haven't been playing him so they can say he is a gun.
Thoughts?

52% career accuracy....just above Florent (who's getting a mention here) @ 50% and ahead of the specialist small forward Papley @ 47%. Papley averages 1.6 goals a game.
Do we need another medium forward though? We have Fritta (1.7 goals a game @ 57% accuracy) & Smacca, who once he gets up to speed appears to be slightly more effective than Hayward...
We seriously need more mid field class / depth and a KF for 25 and beyond, assuming Petty's not extending beyond next season and this is BB's last year.
We might also need to replace Maysie if Adams doesn't come on this season. I'd be seriously considering Sam Collins for an interim stop gap. 30 yo when he comes out of contract in 25/26.
Just my view but i'd like to see us putting effort / cap space $$ into these three areas.
Haward has almost played 100 more games than McAdam, which I would argue means his starts are much better. not to mention the professionalism.
Im not 100% sure about the mid class, unless it is uber class. The perfect mids for our team would be a Merrett, Dawson, Gulden type player. otherwise I don't think they are worth chasing with our core mid group.
McLuggage is a free agent and could be that player!

Can't wait to see this kid play, recon he has a lot of early years Petracca about him.

It's a week, I think the Dees would be fine with this one.
The hard tackles and bumps are what they wouldn't like, as they can only end one way. This was a reflex move that is now illegal, this is almost the exact same position Kossie was in last year with B. Smith and he shoulder charged instead. So he has made a change, we don't won't him to lose his edge, we want players to fear him and wonder were he is in the fwd line and shank a kick or bomb down the line to Max under "Perceived Pressure".

Hayward would be a great pick, he is a much better version of McAdam.
Medium fwd that can chop out in the midfield, the only issue with paying him $$$ is that I think Tholstrup will become that player too.
But if its to get a player that will get us to that last day in September in the next 2 years then that doesn't matter.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend if you are looking for a nice meal head to Juan's Torta Cantina in Brompton, Mexican sandwiches that are amaizing. Fresh ingredients with those lovely Mexican flavours. Also some great cocktails!!
If you do go say hi to Jon the chef and owner and tell him DT sent you!

Has to get the ball though.
If there is no change to the squad I would probably swap Woey for Billings.
If May comes in then Billings out, Hore as the sub.
1 goal assist and 3 score involvements, yes he needs to be better than that game. But he doesn't waste the footy too often. Having players like him, Langodon, ANB and Windsor all in side make it very had for an opposition side to keep up

Billings as a wing rotation and his foot skills are important to us. Ha stays in, no one in our reserves has the polish he does. Also gives Langdon and Windsor a chop out and keeps our run fresh through the game

Great win, great win! Being a South Aussie Dees fan, if would could make it 2 from 2 this week against the other SA side, ohhh that would be bliss.
big question is load management this week, BBB has been important to our structure, he is going to have quiet games and we need to realise his performance isn't graded on stats or goals which is quite obvious by his leading patterns. He is quite obviously taking his man away from the hot spot and creating space, and we use him if it is the best option.
He is going to need a rest at some stage, if May is back then Petty will go fwd and we might be able to manage Browns minutes that way, but i think he needs whole game rests not in game rests.
What is the best way to manage him?

*Rick seemed fine. I’m sure it was just cramp during the match, that’s what it looked like at the time anyways.
* For @Uncle Fester… Rick is Jake Lever. 😅 But I take your point about nicknames. I sometimes forget that not everyone uses their nicknames. I call them what I hear them call one another. Choo Choo and Trac Attack definitely not a thing. 👍🏽
i love the nick names haha, maybe we need a key at the start of each training post. just more work for the amazing people that do this for us all

Name Injury Expected Return Harrison Petty Toe Available Ollie Sestan Concussion 1 week Lachie Hunter Calf 2 weeks Daniel Turner Hip 5 - 6 weeks Jake Bowey Shoulder 8 weeks Charlie Spargo Achilles TBC Shane McAdam Hamstring TBC Jake Melksham Knee TBC Whilst this is great news, id still be tempted to give him managed minutes in the VFL.
In a perfect world we do play him and be 60 points up halfway through the 3rd v the Hawks and we could sub him off.

So once again the journos and numpties on Twitter spent yesterday having a go at Melbourne about the crowd - where were they? why do they play Melbourne games at the MCG if they can't fill it? They'll always be a nothing club, blah blah blah. We've heard it all before, right?
Here's my perspective:
- 44,000 is still higher than the 2023 crowd average of 35,000
- the crowd yesterday was overwhelmingly Melbourne, yet no one was saying "where are the Bulldogs fans"? Why is that? Oh, because they're the darlings of the league.
- The TV was focusing on the Shane Warne stand, rather than the Olympic Stand which was pretty chockers from where I could see
- Of the 9 games, yesterday's crowd was the 4th highest of the weekend. No one was criticising the other games that had lower attendances than ours.
My take is this - the media and the meatheads couldn't pick on Melbourne, couldn't pick on Goodwin, couldn't pick on Oliver, so let's roll out the barrel on the usual rubbish. Because Melbourne.
I'm sick of [censored]....
Its a Moo point, the numbers will come out and we will be the best attending club again beside the big 4 Melb clubs (Rich, Coll, Ess & Carlt)
Is frustrating though!

Kolt to debut vs Brisbane
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
Kolt was fine, he is going to be a good player. He is used to being bigger and stronger than his opponents which shower with him trying to push them off. When he fills out he will be much better.
The first 5 min of the game i recon he was tackled 4 times for a ball up which doesn't show as a stat on the scorecard but they are important touches none the less and shows he is in the right spots.
He will be fine and i hope he gets another couple of runs this year!
