Impossible to say until we know what Mahoney does with the picks we landed.

Very concerned that we traded away our 1st rounder in 2021.   That could easily be a top 5 pick.

We'll have greater problems than just that pick if we're finishing bottom 5 next year.

Wonder if we can snare pick 13 from GWS for 19+28

Go in with 13 and 18

Would be overs on our end pick-wise. Club would have to be super confident the player they're after would still be available by then.

  3. Just a thought but for us now we might be targeting one of Essendons picks to move up the order. 18 or 19 + 28 equals roughly pick 8 or so. 18 + 19 would get us up to around pick 5. From Mahoney on trade radio today he did mention that he thought some players they had on the radar may slip through to the picks we now have, so we may just sit back and let JT do his work.

Because we keep one of them and I anticipate Pies will slide next season that's why

We're basically helping out Collingwood with their NGA whilst betting ourselves against a team that still finished top 6 this year. Doesnt seem like a very high reward. Pies wouldnt agree either.

Would we trade 18 or 19 for Pies 2021 first rounder?

Considering Nick Daicos anticipated to go Top 5 next season

not a chance. why would we trade our future first for those 2 picks, to only send them back to the pies for their future 1st round.

So much for that... He's just been traded. He knows nothing.

Edit: While yes, there was a stalemate between the clubs last night, to state that "they ain't even close" is what I'm referencing.

The old chicken train is failing to even hit the dartboard on most of these “scoops”

HUN reporting Carlton have backed out of the Saad deal. Either tactics or just tired of dealing with Dodoro. Doubtful we have cap unless Tmac moves on but perhaps we should contact Saad's management for a chat.

I'd agree, but I dont think the sticking point would be just salary either. We don't have the picks to satisfy Essendon and Dodoro for Saad so it'd seem borderline impossible at this point.

Think this is a much better option than Treloar, but I'd rather get 2-3 starting 22 players than one big fish.

We are still light on for quality

How does 2-3 plodders that would maybe cost 300-400k a piece make us any better when you can go hard for 2 star players that make us immediately better in areas we're clearly most deficient in (Whitfield - wing/hbf, Kelly - wing/outside mid). We're not as light on for depth as you might think, but we lack the match winning players in those areas.

    We can do both.

2021 is top 4-6 finish as stated by Bartlett.  Improvement achievable with the addition of Ben Brown and general increasing maturity of our list.

2022 add Z.Merrett or Treloar - push for flag.

    2022 - Kelly/Whitfield

So far looking likely options (imv as very tough guesstimates)

pick swaps with Lions 43 and 2021 future 4th rd for MFC 53 and future 2021 3rd rd

    Ins.

Ben Brown for MFC 2020 pick 43 and future 2021 2nd round

Andrew Phillips for MFC (Lions) future 2021 4th round

    outs.
Hannan and MFC pick 68 for dogs future 3rd round

Preuss and MFC 2021 4th round pick for 2020 GWS pick 31.

TMC for EssFC future 2021 3rd round pick

    OMC delisted free agent

    Leaves us with

    2020 2nd rd Pick 26, 31 4th rd 69  + Ben Brown + Phillips (x Preuss Hannan Tmc OMc)

2021 MFC 1st rd Pick , DOGS 3rd rd pick, EssFC 3rd rd pick

Im optimistic we'll strike a better deal than a future 3rd rounder out of the dogs for Hannan but the rest sound very fair

If we're looking to have Petracca play the Dustin Martin role of splitting his time between the midfield and forward line, Harmes could be the guy to interchange him with. Start each game with Harmes forward and trac in the middle. When they switch Harmes can then clamp down on an oppositions best midfielder at the time.

That allows us to then have Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney rotate amongst the other two midfield spots and potentially have short shifts in the forward line also.

I think it'll help more with quarter lengths looking likely to at least increase by a few minutes, as well as a longer season to allow for more rotations through the midfield. I don't think we'll be seeing as much of the same 3-4 players dominating midfield minutes as they were this year so hopefully that allows Harmes and Brayshaw to push through at times and play their more natural roles. Harmes could even have the role of playing off the half forward flank and negating the oppositions best running half back whilst still offering some damage on the scoreboard as he's shown he's capable of.

Jed Anderson still not committing, personally he is exactly what I’d like to see coming our way. Age, skill set, pace all bang on. Shouldn’t cost the earth either?

Pass. We do not need another inside mid

  13. I know it's very early in the piece with trade and draft period yet to conclude, however it'd be interesting to see what people think is the best mix for our 22 given who may be coming in/going out for next years season? Could be a best possible scenario or what you think may happen this trade period with likely inclusions.

    FB: Hibberd May Lever

    HB: Salem Tomlinson Rivers

    C: Langdon Oliver Baker/Phillips

    HF: Fritsch Weideman Brayshaw

    FF: Pickett Brown Hunt

    FOL: Gawn Viney Trac

    INT: Jackson Lockhart Spargo Harmes

Next few: Melksham, Smith, Sparrow, AVB

It doesnt look too likely that there'll be too many more inclusions past Ben Brown this trade period, however would still love to have Phillips on the wing. My only other thought is if Tmac stays, I'd like to see him have one last crack at CHB and see if Tomlinson can crack that wing role, if not I still think that we're relying too much on someone like Baker to perform out on that wing at this stage in his career. I know Melksham seems to be immune from the axe at selection, but I really dont think he has too much to offer that Fritsch already does.

  14. Could this be why Mahoney has come out with the "relatively quiet" trade period talk? Maybe we've understood that its unlikely we'll be able to offload him to another club and any salary we could have used for another quality player or two just isnt there anymore. If it's the case then the only way I could realistically see him playing again is down back. Doesnt have a future down forward with 3 others already ahead of him.

So why do you think Weed is a utility player then?

I don't think he's a utility and havent said anything of the like here...but unless we find another pure ruckman this trade period he will have to pinch hit in the ruck with Jackson.

Not that im for McKernan coming to us, but Tony Sheahan has been so far off the mark this year so wouldnt read much into it. Imagine thinking a player would make the basis of their decision on playing at a certain stadium?

This is exactly my point, just because a player is tall and occasionally contests a ruck doesn't mean they are a "utility" player.

I've never even said he's utility ! But unless you're going into a game with two dedicated rucks like the Eagles, Power, Lions and Tigers (for most of the year) your forwards do have to pinch hit in the ruck. Mckernan is a utility and not a dedicated ruck so I'm just struggling to wrap my head around this move.

2 big key forwards who don't get a lot of the ball and don't offer any defensive pressure. It's just not going to happen.

When has it ever been the job of the key forward to apply massive amounts of defensive pressure. Weid and Brown are there to make sure we kick more goals than the other team and therefor win us matches of AFL football.
