Maynard left the Ground after the ball had passed.
    it was premeditated and executed

    Lest We Forget

Not just premeditated. I have always wondered if it was a direct order from the coach. Has anyone ever asked the holier-than-thou McRae what his instructions to Maynard were before that fateful match? We had a birds eye view of the incident from Level 4 and it sure looked like to us that Maynard lined up Gus from 30m out. Still livid (and extremely sad and upset for Gus) over the whole incident.

It was written in the stars that a Dees player would then get suspended under the new rule. The irony

  2. FYI, just spoke to the SCG and all MCC members (any category) can purchase reciprocal members tickets (1 member and 1 guest) to this opening round match BUT only from the members ticket booth on the actual day, in person, from 5pm (half an hour before the member gates open). Seems a bit risky booking flights and accom if the members is a sell out on the day.

Would be interested to know if any MCC members on this forum have purchased reciprocal members tickets to the footy up there recently and if there were any problems? I last used my MCC membership at the SCG almost 30 years ago and the members then was only busy on cricket days, not footy.

after cripps got off last year at the appeals stage the afl stated it was unhappy with the reasoning and iirc said that they would tighten up the processes to avoid a repeat of "legal mumbo jumbo" loopholes.  after all the afl do set up the process parameters of the appeals board.

    did that ever happen?

No doubt will soon find out....

Our connection is poor because our mids continually butcher the ball and they know that so they thump it long without much thought. Only Viney has made any real effort to lower the eyes and he was quiet on Thursday.

    Exactly what Trac said today:
"I feel like the last three or four weeks we probably had a similar forward line and it’s worked really well so us mids need to get better at actually delivering the ball inside 50 better rather than blazing away and putting it on their heads.”

One can only hope they all look up before they kick it into the forward line. And pray the subsequent shot on goal is straight and true!

Jeez, honestly reckon there’s another clip floating around somewhere. I distinctly heard Maynard say the word “Toey”………in the context of him being an enforcer. Sorry for harping on about it but I’m not imagining things……..I hope 🤓

Says "toey" at 6.30 in that vid. It's all jovial talk but we all knew he was going to beeline someone. Such a wannabee enforcer - shame he never played on someone like Andy Goodwin

I just think it is totally unfair to the young player. Not one of ours but a player talented enough to make an AFL list.

But life and footy is never fair. Injury cost Garry Lyon a chance to play finals when he could have been the difference. Jim Stynes' brain fade cost Robbie Flower the chance to play in a Grand Final etc etc.

Robbie had a broken collarbone (thanks to that other thug Dipper) so would never have played in the GF and the only brain fade was from the field umpire David Howlett who didn't hear the siren, you tw*t

I see I have no support on this thread so I shall desist. I hope that the Tribunal sees the footage from all angles. As a retired lawyer, I think that must absolve Maynard from any penalty. But, as has been pointed out by deep thinkers on this thread, the Tribunal's decision may be political - not fair to player Maynard but politically correct.

Regards to all and Go Dees,

    Rollo

Yes, the tribunal will see the raw footage from the rear angle (showing the deliberate turn into Brayshaw) and side on angle (showing the cannonball-like launch into Brayshaw) and suspend him for 3 weeks. The problem will be on appeal when your former colleagues get involved and use all their cunning, trickery and legal jargon to get him off, as what happened with Cripps last year

Yes, this has been overlooked by most. I made comment about it further up the thread…. I wish I could find the video clip and post it here. He clearly said he was toey and something else about inflicting damage or similar. This was premeditated…..

"Every single one of them". Motive

I was just reading about Laura Kane. She worked for the families in the royal commission into institutional sexual abuse.

Massive respect for her. She’s wonderfully articulate and as smart as they come.

I hope for once our club sent in a scathing medical report as opposed to being the nice guys.
Photos of Gus’ shiner, documents about his previous condition, impact to his and his family’s well being following this nasty collision.

Bury this thug and bury his club. Hope he misses finals and it burns in his guts forever. Payback for all the cowardly thug acts he’s committed over the years, including this one that could end the career of an actually BRAVE player who plays the ball. Not the man.

Just as Adelaide and Dangerfield did in 2011 to bury our first time offender Jack Trengove. Only difference being Dangerfield played the following week and got BOG, even with the "horrific" concussion injury he suffered at the hands of Jack

I was particularly [censored] off that Patrick Dangerfield seemed to be more concerned with asserting Maynard's innocence at length rather than showing any concern for Brayshaw's wellbeing.

And as president of his peers no less. Then again, what do expect from someone who also did a "footy act" in a final and got away with it:

Watch the MRO grade it as accidental, not high and medium impact and he gets a fine.

Never mind that Gus has a black eye according to Goodwin and was knocked out.

And arguably cost us the game losing a player of his versatility and importance to team set up (including part of the forward line).

When you have some powerbrokers like Dangerfield say "there is nothing in this" and McLachlan say "the fact Brayshaw was knocked out will be a factor but not the defining factor", there is absolutely no hope for justice here
