That’s funny, all officials who rarely compliment, say we played well, except for disposal.

    Commentators the same.

    Many on here the same.

Here are a few more stats.

    Inside 50’s 59-39.

    Frees 22-13 their way.

    Approx 50 more disposals.

We had no Petty, Tom Mac or BBB and a red headed contested beast out. They had a ruck and a few flankers out, but had their best mids, key forwards and key backs all playing and we didn’t jet them score.

Fix up disposal and it’s a smashing.

Lastly, they were never going to win.

You can't assess performance on stats alone.  Stats don't tell the full story

We actually now hold the league record of 40 for F50 interceptions.

We had 20 more inside F50’s.

We kept Blues to lowest score under Voss.

You picked out two stats.  The Voss stat is irrelevant considering he's coached Carlton for 18 months.  We were awful.  There's no way we're winning it playing like that

    Que?

    No picked full stop?

Or not as a forward despite training as a forward over the preseason and playing forward at Casey for half a season?

As a forward.  Just because he's played forward at VFL level for eight weeks doesn't mean he's any good in that position.  Also, AFL level is big step up from VFL

Saying we didn’t click until round 20 ignores the stunning body of work we put into the first 17 weeks. Saying we got “beaten up” by the Dogs ignores that we’d already beaten them at Marvel, and is inaccurate anyway - that was a 20 point loss where it was single digits midway through the 4th quarter.

We beat 16 of the 17 other sides that year (only missing out on Collingwood).

Our 2021 season was, from start to finish, supreme.

    Correct

if the afl media is questioning the Dees as a contender, so what? They probably have a right to given our record of 4/3 against, as Kingy puts it, the “real teams”.

Very true.  Some people when they don't like a commentator saying negative things about their club not matter how legitimate, they'll go after the commentator.

That wasn't the trend at all last year. The trend was in the second half of the year, we'd run out of steam in second halves.

Whereas, in our premiership year we'd run over teams usually (exception basically being GWS and Collingwood that year).

That is literally how you beat every team in the competition, because moving the ball quickly off half back is the way to beat the modern zone that we'd perfected in 2021.

I agree that the way to beat the modern zone is to move the ball quickly and use short chips off half back to break the zone and then kick over the top of it. Even better if you can use a chip and then a handball receive to break more lines.

However, when teams have done it to us, our half forwards have been off and when they tried it (say against Sydney), we shut them down by not allowing the handball receive.

I do think the modern zone requires a tweak and I've banged on about this for a few weeks now, because I think we were trialling something in our Richmond game.  That is, go 1v1 from the stationary kick out and then zone behind it. But again, you don't necessarily want to show all your cards at this stage of the season. This is an adjustment we could make in season IMO.

The system is about trusting your players to play their roles and get the job done. This was Clarkson's philosophy during the threepeat era as

We've improved this year. But we've also played 3 of the worst sides in the comp who really are VFL standard so of course alot of our numbers and keys stats will jump up.

I still reserve judgement on us as a whole until we can show we can beat a top 4 quality team this year without getting smacked around the clearences and stoppages badly like we have.

Right now, so far on both occasions meaning Port and Brisbane, we've been incredibly poor in both performances.

    Good posting

I'm starting to think that anyone who comes in here or the gameday thread making a big statement like "Wow you'd think from reading this thread we lost by 100 points" doesn't actually watch the game and just sees the scores in the paper.

Yes.  You can't just look at the margin.  We were well beaten in the first half and in the last quarter we couldn't move the ball

...apparently AFL Tasmania is set to announce that they are not going to continue the TSL (State league for Tasmania) beyond 2024.

The TSL has been struggling for quite some time.  Don't know why the AFL is happy to see it die

I don't want to have a green vest with a yellow map of Tassie and a red/burgundy "T" on it.  In terms of colors it probably makes sense to lean into the colour Green from a class perspective, however.

Yeah I hope they don't go with that jumper or at least modernise it.  I don't mind the colours either and no-one wears green
