  1. Dogs continue to go too tight in the contest against our midfielders. Haven't learnt their lesson since 2021. Most teams let us win more of the contested ball in the middle but stop us getting out the front. Today we've already kicked a few goals from it

  2. Don't know why people think McKay would cost multiple high first rounders. He is paid $1 million per year, but Carlton play just as well when he is missing, with Curnow as the clear #1 man, DeKoning playing forward ruck, and Pittonet as a pure ruck. That million a year of salary could be used to make significant improvements to their team in other positions. When Collingwood got rid of Brodie Grundy, at the time a 28 year old two time all australian, they only received pick 27 and they agreed to pay $1.5 million of salary for him.

  3. Naughton is the dream but would also be happy to settle for Lobb. Has proven to be a bit of a mercenary and found himself out of the dog's best 22 at times, so probably open to a move. Would provide more ruck cover than any of JVR/Petty/Naughton too.

  4. I wonder if we have any interest in Ethan Read at pick 5? Need to improve the ruck stocks with Grundy going, and we've shown a willingness to pick mobile ruckman high in the draft with Jackson only recently. If we could threaten Gold Coast with a bid for him we might be able to move up to pick 4 without giving much at all. For them if they could push back the Read bid from 6 (after a Walter bid) to 10 or so they would save 400+ points.

  5. Think Horne-Francis has already changed the way some clubs think about pick 1, and the value of pick 1 against multiple high picks. When he was drafted Adelaide offered North a monster deal which has become the currency for Rankine, Dawson, and Rachele. Looking back North clearly would have taken the deal, and Adelaide wouldn't have offered so much. Last year go home factor comes into play again with GWS paying a premium to get a Vic country lad who they aren't worried about losing, while West Coast are happy to trade back to get two high quality WA kids, knowing that at this stage it's more important for them to get multiple quality youngsters rather than just one. If the Eagles finish last this year I'd be surprised if they didn't trade pick 1. There's a WA key defender who's tracking to be an early first rounder, and I think they'd prefer him and another top 10 pick over just Reid.

  6. A couple of times we were almost out the front of the stoppage, only to have a little fumble letting Richmond turn it over and go through other way. Clean this up and we'll score quickly. Also as Richmond appeared to tire a little bit we started to actually get some intercepts and structure. Umps can get stuffed

The points system doesn’t mean anything to us

It's hardly even about points, the picks line up very well with each other. Picks 33 and 45 are slightly worse than 37 and 49. Therefore we think pick 17 must be at least slightly better than out future 1st. I'm not sure it should be.

I'm not going to be happy if it's a future first for this pick. Only reason is that the north Melbourne deal was for the same pick but the money dump (so if we can afford Cerra, can we afford a money dump to get pick 19 without having to give up our future first - instead make it a future second or some such)? All in all pick 19 for pick 16-18 next year isn't too bad.

Could be something like our future 1st and future 2nd for 19 and the Gold Coast or Collingwood future 2nd.

  9. With another year of heavily covid interupted football in Melbourne, there should be plenty of talented players out there who haven't developed as much as they otherwise would have. I'd mostly just be backing in Jason Taylor to make some speculative picks and see what sticks. High risk high reward sort of stuff. Aside from developing another young ruckman I think our list is very nicely balanced.

  10. Bedford, Chandler and Laurie will all be looking to overtake him, and he wasn't even in the best 22 himself. We won't expect to get anything in terms of draft picks, but it would be useful to have his contract off the books.
