    Sure!

    Who did you want for 800k that’s better than Lever?

    For two first round picks you should get a player  the quality of Treloar, Omeara, Shiel, Kelly. Top shelf mids.

    Not an intercept marking defender. Absolutely ridiculous overs.

    Seems Gill is already telling clubs that GC have a strong case with clubs like Adelaide kicking up a stink already. Sounds like typical Dees are staying silent on this as usual.

    Done deal Olisik. Gill already buttering the other clubs up for priority pick. We will have pick 3

    Conor Rozee went at pick 5- would love to hear how you’d suggest we nab him with the pick 19 we traded away.

    The open market placed Liam Ryan’s value  at the 26th best player in the draft.  We traded away Pick 10.

    You and Olisik want to play Captain Hindsight and cherry-pick the best players in the draft to suit your preconceived idea that the trade was a bust.  Doesn’t work like that.  The draft is the best indicator of where those players were ranked at the time.  It is an open, transparent market.

    If others can cherry pick their way I’ll cherry pick my way, cheers. Either way we overpaid and got shafted.

    That’s if we drafted those players. Was plenty of other available players such as Tim Kelly, Liam Ryan, Petrucelli ect available in the draft when these selections were made.

    Good call Olisik. Paying an unnecessary extra first rounder for Lever means we have a guy like ANB or JKH in the side instead of a Liam Ryan or Conor Rozee type. No wonder we’re crap.

  5. The point of the thread isn’t that Lever isn’t a good player. He’s more than decent and was worth pick 10 - 20. But we shelled out much more than that, another first round pick when we didn’t have to. He was out of contract. Why are we so weak at trades and get bent over more often than not? Mahoney sold off part of the farm when he didn’t have to. Bad management.

    Posters keep forgetting that a priority pick enables greater bargaining power to land those types of players (if under contract).

    That's the whole point here. A priority pick enables greater flexibility around drafting and trading for experience/talent.

    I don't think anyone believes it would be in Gold Coast's best interest to only hit the draft with picks.

    The problem is no-one of serious quality wants to go there. Pick 2 got them Lachie Weller who is really just an average player. You can’t force other clubs to give up a state if they don’t have to.

  7. Two first round picks was ridiculous. You pay that for a top 25 player in the comp. Maybe. It’s debatable that Lever is even in the top 75. And he’s injury prone. This trade has cost us the opportunity to bring in a young gun like a Duursma or an Ollie Florent. Who’s making these decisions? Mahoney and Goodwin? It’s disgraceful.

    The evidence has come through again and again that top picks aren't the decisive factor for a climb back up the ladder.

    Quality coaching and development, a bit of stability and confidence at the club, 'culture' and all that, are what counts.

    Both count. It’s quality coaching and development, culture, stability etc AND getting talented kids through the draft. You’re a much higher chance of getting the most talented kids at the pointy end of the draft. That’s just a fact. Gold Coast will get priority pick 1 to go with with pick 2 and the Dees will get pushed down to 3.

    Oh dear, yes, how could I not have noticed, Brown did indeed kick as many as 0.3 goals a game more than McDonald.

    I guess I must have been blinded by mere details like McDonald having Brown well covered for

    * Disposals, and Disposal Efficiency, and (lower) clangers

    * Marks

    * Tackles, and Tackles inside 50.

    * Inside 50s, Score Involvements and Goal Assists

    * Clearances

    * One percenters, intercepts

    * Metres gained

    The rest is pretty even. There's only one area where Brown comes out ahead, and that, to nobody's surprise, is free kicks.

    Sorry to blind you with another minor detail but Brown has kicked 40/60/60/50+ in last 4 seasons.

    How’s TMac find this year?

    You’re reaching Goffy.

    am I missing something ?

    Correct. Started a Trade Petracca thread but was called a “troll” by the usual suspects and the thread was deleted by mods.

    One of those stalkers - @Moonshadow - has actually supported Petracca being traded in a subsequent thread.

    You don't seem super consistent on knees old mate.

    No inconsistency there. I’ve never said Patton is risk-free.

    Petracca has done remarkably well this year considering how poorly we have played as a team. He will continue to get better in the next couple of years. We all know he can be frustrating at times, but trading him would be sheer madness

    Interesting. Just two weeks ago your post in the Trade Brayshaw thread on the subject of MFC trades. :laugh:

    Will be right at home with O'meara's dicky knee and Scully's glass ankle.

    After 3 recos, Patton is one unfortunate candy sell away from a knee replacement before the age of 40

    Max Gawn has had two knee recos. Going alright.

  14. 9 minutes ago, Little Goffy said:

    While people are tossing away Petracca it might be worth mentioning that since his form turnaround starting in round 8 this season, Petracca has managed:

    16 goals (1.5), 22 tackles (2.0), 42 inside 50s (3.8), and 27 clearances (2.5), with a tick over 20 disposals a game.

    When it comes to that kind of combination of goalkicking as well as effective involvement in general play, you are talking about a very short list.

    Jordan De Goey, Michael Walters, Toby Green, Robbie Gray, Gary Ablett Jr, Isaac Heeney, and Christian Petracca.

    Petracca is right in that mix of priceless players and we'd be mad to trade him just as he's getting it together.

    Also...

    Tom McDonald's 2018 season as a forward was better than any season of Ben Brown's.

    Just saying. Maybe persevere with that rather than go for the panic-buy of a disgraceful stager.

    Persevere with a structure that’s seen the worst forward line return and conversion rate since stats were recorded and a ladder position of 17th? Great idea LG. Rest of the comp will be shuddering with fear.

    And your statement about TMac’s 2018 being better than anything Ben Brown has produced is factually incorrect. TMac kicked 53 goals in 2018. Brown has kicked 60+ ... TWICE!

    “Patton has garnered interest from other Victorian clubs but seems certain to eventually find his way to the Hawks in a trade for a mid-range pick given his lack of recent football.”

    ‘Seems certain’ is quite different to ‘is certain’.

    Still a very interesting cut price option for us as a key forward. Put in the Plan B or C folder in case the Ben Brown deal falls through.

    A lot of water to go under under the bridge between now and trade week. I would not be surprised in the slightest if we are one of the other Vic clubs to enquire about Patton.

    Most definitely, was thinking something similar myself. Also means we keep our 2nd rd pick.

    I wonder if we could tempt the Eagles to part with one of their young pacy goal sneaks - Petrucelle, Jarrod Cameron etc - in exchange for Weideman. Or one of Richmond’s. With Kennedy and Riewoldt respectively both nearing the end they might bite. Petrucelle would be a great get.

    F: Petrucelle Brown Melksham

    HF: Fritsch TMac Pick 2

    I’m all for Brown but not at the expense of our first pick. When people want to criticise the team the same names are always thrown up ie ANB, OMac....etc etc. For a pick 2 with all of his physical attributes Petracca possesses, he has been a massive disappointment for me, and is yet to totally dominate a game from start to finish. I don’t believe this is a Goodwin issue, I just think he’s not that good. I would be all in for trading Petracca for an established player not another 1st rd pick.

    Would you consider our 2020 first round pick + Petracca for Brown? Back ourselves to get back in the 8 in 2020 thereby making that first rounder more in the 11 - 18 range.

    That would be a fair deal I reckon. Allows us to keep pick 2.

    I agree with you on Petracca. I think we should trade now while his cachet is still pretty decent.

    Hogan says hello. Now that’s a kid who is cursed.

    Sam had a brilliant finals campaign and a few minor setbacks. He’s a skinny KPF with under 50 games experience. He has had the same up and down ride as most.

    “Brilliant finals campaign” ? Please Jaded, you make it sound like he replicated Ablett Snr’s finals efforts in 1989. Weid had one one good game against Geelong on an off night for them. Hawks he was just okay. West Coast he barely registered a stat.

    The rest of his career to date has been dreadful bordering on delist-worthy. And he’s not that skinny at all. No less so than Eric Hipwood, Aaron Naughton and Charlie Curnow who’ve shown ten times more ability at the level.

    Most indicators are pointing towards a bust.

  19. 1 hour ago, Lord Nev said:

    Yes, and you do understand that given his age we should go off this year's stats, rather than ones from when he was 23 right?

    I'm not "potting" Ben Brown at all, very good player, but he's not worth pick 2/3 (whatever it ends up being) given his age. You can't complain about our lack of young talent and then simultaneously trade away one of the best 3 young players in the country. It's absolutely hypocritical.

    Priorities Nev.

    No forward line, no hope in 2020.

    What’s your solution? Thus far you’ve provided nada.
