  1. A footy club is a microcosm of society, the same analogy used when footballers stray, can be pointed at the management. We often have a management style that is a reflection of the 1950s. When will these behemoths, dinosaur's step aside and let those who adjust to the modern norms of behaviour be the guides. Leaders need to reflect the best of us, and not fight to maintain a status quo that is amiable to the powers that be, ambivalent to the middle and downright obtuse to the lower. Get those types out of the management structure. We need people who change the institutions proactively and not those who have to be dragged to even accept the times are a changing. I don’t think it is about a woke society, or ethic/morality training, but more about having diversity and selecting people with merit and broad life experiences to have a voice, in decision and supportive roles. Very much a time to move on from the Old Boys club style of management. Passing psychological and personality assessments could be the way. Could use affirmative employment methods to get more, females, multicultural participants, and those from varying social status, to create appropriate voices and guidance in our institutions. Out with nepotism, group think, and born to rule, time for the glass ceiling to disappear completely.
  2. Berry was always going to get off, especially when next game is a final. Need something like, when he plays us next suspension. He will be our target along with Zorko and McCarthy. It will be a grudge match when we meet them again.
  3. Jackson wants to go, it looked like his game changed for the worse mid season when he decided to. He will be good for who ever gets him, so long as he is motivated. For us, we have talls, JVR, Turner, Tmac, Weids as back-up ruck and Tomlinson as general back-up. What we need is a big bodied, hit the packs hard forward. Saw today there is rumour of Kysiah looking to go back to SA. There goes some "X factor" (if) , difficult to replace. Though at his stage of development, he found it hard to stay in the game for the 4 quarters. (Not the only player at our club with that problem.) We have a few trying to be small forwards, but none are quite right. I'd be looking for a tall Langdon clone, someone who can out-mark his opponent, run two ways, is clean with the ball and makes good decisions. We need a back-up number one ruck if Max has some time off. Draft a 105+ kg forward. A 190+ cm mid/winger. A 200+ cm ruck A small who likes a goal and has the "X" factor. Out; M. Brown, Laurie, Rosman, Baker
  4. Our poor results have been about the second halves. We go into the rooms congratulating ourselves, the MCC members applauding and it must feel like we are rolling. They become self absorbed and forget that in an even league the other can at least pick up the pressure and take the game on with nothing to lose. We panic, kick to boundary and try to congest the area around the footy. That opens up big spaces on the G and the opposition can get one on one, or uncongested areas to play to, as they carry the ball well and hit their players. We also try to fill the area a kick behind and kick infront at stoppages, or when a free kick or mark. This give the oppo a good chance to clear into open space again and go into attack if they are effective with the disposals. We play a game with more freedom when we have a good lead, and if it doesn't work we get panicky, unconfident and make errors. Then we get exhausted chasing and playing that fast, get into the defensive, offensive transition positions, when the oppo start getting more ball. it starts with bathwater, and ends with exhaustion, as we get overrun.
  5. Let's see if they can "reset". No goals for 2 quarters. I thought getting big leads would free them up. Seems the opposite for MFC teams. The longer we go without scoring after getting the big lead, the more nervous we get.
  6. Wow, will the Saints get two disposals in a row? Great structure behind the ball. Good forward craft, creating separation and kicking straight Purcell playing great footy, along with West, the engine room.
  7. Oops, didn't see the tongue in cheek. Changes for 2023. Perhaps play all home games at Casey, we will get into most future final series, and then argue for home finals out there. (Tongue in cheek)
  8. He was down at both open training sessions.
  9. Jackson was on the field. Harmes to keep Berry off Oliver, wasted on the wing. Dogga didn't do well up forward, could have been a defensive winger and got back to help, or given them a tall to kick to. We often played for the boundary line when kicking to the wing. In any case, unlikely he will be with us next year, and I was talking in retrospect to our semi.
  10. Could have put Jackson there. They kept telling us he was like a midfielder.
  11. More games played there the better we will get on jt. Need to be very good on it, as our finals could be played there, and the grand will definitely be played there for quite a few more years.
  12. I'm more likely to emphasise changes in style, than players. If players, I want those who are, clean at handling the ball (golden hands), take one bite marks, are good at disposal, have endurance and speed. As for style, I'd like to see the head coach up in the box, so they can see what is needed and not rely on the assistant. We need plans A B C D, etcetera. More shuffling of the board and restructuring the playing style. Plans that create, quick, or slow, or maintain the lead, or get goals, or change the momentum, or reset, types. Not so sure about the lines. Need more players being able to move between forward, mid and back. Therefore, at training they should swap a variety of players into their lines position, so they understand what is being done in the lines, and gives flexibility and possibly creates greater connection and cohesion. The Forwards need to be constantly moving, opening, closing, creating space, separation, and mismatches. Not necessarily, up and down the field. Creating space to lead into is an aspect we should develop ground wide. Too often, we get closed down, and it limits our ability to play with freedom, and we tend to panic under pressure. Still need greater trust and connection between players. A couple of times in the semi, we went fast, but had no-one to deliver too. Perhaps the players lose focus on the match as they attempt to get on with their roles and set structures. Where has our swarm gone? We used to run and hunt in packs. Our players rarely looked like we were desperate. Only a few of the best seemed to play with freedom. Our timing seemed off, we lose rhythm and don't seem to hold the ball till the right moment, or shimmy/baulk to delay the disposal. We became easy to read, have to have the oppo guessing. Our smalls attempt too many hangers and get in the way of our talls instead of crumbing and holding the ball in as they lose positional advantages. We require more drive of halfback. We need to be able to perform under pressure. Have to, punish teams with scores when we force turnovers and mistakes.
  13. Can't believe the crowd boo'd Petty and a Brissy player ridiculed a male crying.
  14. I agree with many posters about MFC being able to dominate the first half and then get dominated in the 2nd. They new it was a pattern early in the season and still couldn't change it. Where was our leadership and guidance? Some in the crowd yesterday knew we were done, others wanted us to reset. I was amazed at how long it took to make changes and to show desperation.
  15. We were always fast out of the box, but we couldn't handle being front runners. From early season dominance, to so many of our games leading at half time. What happens to their heads, do they start believing they have done enough or that they are just the better team, drink the bathwater, it's all they need. Wow, the other coaches would know we drop off in the second half, and give up the momentum and belief. Petty moves forward 10 minutes into the end of our season, even though we have had trouble all year. Looks like he can play there. We lacked desperation, everyone could see the swing at the start of the third, and effectively we had or did nothing. It happened many times in the season and we developed no strategies to turn it. When the other team brings the heat we have to at least match it and then bring more. We let them out tackle us Missing goals, trying to do it by themselves, getting in each others way, and panicking with the ball. Brisbane were nervous at the start, we became nervous as the game developed. We looked like an inexperienced finals team. Too many were in and out of the game. When the opposition go fast against us we drop our bundle. Bad forward craft, the mids started to to miss their short handballs, and several brain fades. Surprised and disappointed, bad way to finish such a promising year, leading again and allowing them to overrun us.
  16. I'm seeing on the reports, no rain till after midnight.
  17. Is that to pump up their will power. Play smarter Dees. Maybe, channelling He-Man. Play stronger and outlast them.
  18. This area, burnley golf course (closed at the moment, according to google maps), loughlan oval, Burnley oval,
  19. We really have done nothing. Back to the start when we discuss areas. Has Como park been brought up?
  20. Bad timing, what a decision to make. Well done to Daniher to focus on nurturing his family. They have strong family bonds.
  21. Wow, Daniher out will change our defensive plans, but maybe effect the Lions more. Their advantage was the talls. We are flexible with our ability for all the backs to play either small, medium or tall.
  22. They still control the reigns on game day. Now the squad is selected the aspects of going in unchanged is irrelevant. Would prefer them to make actions then sit on their hands (which they have done in the past), if Brissy starts taking control or we need to get rolling. You want them to be non proactive or reactive? Maybe you misinterpreted my intentions, or you are holding onto something about the coaches? In style, the tempo, take it on, play percentages, In structure, extra players at the contest, or in defence, push up the field from defense, crowd the ball, play one on one. I could keep going, I hope you get my gist. The coaches have to make quick decisions during the game and not just let it roll on. That is my opinion (seriously), if joking I would have said bring Yze on as our med sub.
  23. I got Melbourne on my mind. Though the story of royalty makes it hard to be 100%. Pressure, run, transition well from attack and defence, get over the nerves quickly, play in the moment and take the opportunities. It will be a tough game, fighting for everything. We are a proven big game team and must go in with plenty of confidence. I want our leaders and best, to take it up to them and have great games. They will drag the rest with them. C'mon coaches, make the decisions quickly about our style and structure during the game. Get them up and successful. Go Dees!
