Luckily it didn't effect his game, played well.
-
I can't remember seeing him either. Maybe because of a quick turnaround (MFC friday night game), they rested him, just in case he is needed. Though wasn't at his best, and I reckon could do with some more time at VFL level. Doing a lot of playing from behind.
-
Commentators talking about the kids behind the goal. It used to be a regular occurrence at the MCG, city end before the upgrades. A big standing area was a great place for the kids in the 1970's.

I'd like to see Howes play forward. Seems to have a physique similar to Fritsch. His kicking seems ok, has some run, and can take a mark.
-
Funny kind of quarter. We were dominated by Sandy, who didn't capitalise. Then in the last 10 minutes started getting better forward entries. Many of the MFC listed were in and out of the game. Also, occasionally sloppy with handling and disposals. Interesting that they are playing Chandler as a mid, some of the time. What's happened to Turner, as he is not playing?

Two great set shot goals from Schache, same spot near the boundary 40 meters out on a gusty day. Plenty of tackling pressure from us. Mids winning the clearances.
-
Tomlinson is out there. Directing the set up. We are peppering the score with plenty of opportunities but only getting points, Chandler, Munro, then Harmes.
-
Brody needs to stop fumbling as much, ground balls and marks, and Gawns needs to get back to his marking best, supporting the backs, and can improve his tap work.
-
Another Chandler assist, off some tackling pressure with a pass to an unmanned Schache.
-
Chandler works a fwd stoppage with handball clearance and assist, via two hands for first goal to Edwards. Sandy reply for their first. Adams appears to have put some size on.
-
Yes, Grundy is a needed player. Come the finals, the talls get bigger as the games gets to the pointy end. They are still trying out the best way to use Max and Grundy, so need to keep working on it.

Thought we had a few more playing infront this week. Especially in the first half, as we got to the dump or short kick, first. Much better than the last few games, where we were second to the ball. Must have been looked at in their reviews.
-
Thought Melky was still showing a bit of toe. Loved his speed and some of his forward craft when an open forward area. We seemed to have created that space after stoppages in their forward area and the backs kicking it around and backwards, pulling the game towards them before finding a corridor. Great that we have a few more clubs in the arsenal now. We'll done coaches.

Just started watching the pre-game and match from Ch 7. May and Melky having a laugh together, warms the heart. Also, loved what May was saying about his relationship with Lever entailed.
-
I was in that area as well. Thought we out numbered them. My view across to the other side, looked like lots of Saints members didn't turn up (empty seats), and our cheer squad definitely made more noise and had bigger numbers than theirs.

Max made a good and needed mark on the wing in the 4th. He didn't seem to be getting back to support the backline as much as he used to. I think he his continual adjusting his game to what the team needs. I reckon his tap work is at its best when Oliver is underneath him, or when Viney is on song.
-
Not sure about concussion. He coped a hit in the 4th just in front of me. Appeared a bit groggy and the trainers were slow to get out to him. Hope the sub was more about precaution. Anyone watching at home know more about it?
-
You were right @binman, Smithy had the sub position. Could have been a better tactical sub than Harmes. Able to do many jobs. Thought he may not have come on, then Pet's cops the high hit and on he came. Didn't do much but was able to fill a pivotal spot. The game, sling off our backline, and playing stoppages there is not great. Would like us to be holding it in our 50 more, instead. A few fast ball movements were brilliant, occasionally there were no players to kick it to, and that style puts more work on the backs. Loved our backline, especially the zone work, the switching and moving the ball round as they looked for a corridor. Saints often had nowhere to go, May intercepting and Lever organising. Kicked straight and led all night. Tackling was good, repeated efforts and gut running, gave them hardly any space, forced dump kicks. There coaching was good, attempting to match up our damaging players. Thought Sparrow's game was good, as was JJ's. Melky did plenty of smart work and good forward craft. What's happened to Kossie, needs to get the ball and hit the goals. A good win, but we have lots to work on. Not letting the ball out the back at scrummages and in a marking pack. Also need players front and centre, where are our crumbers? Got to be better at marking. Woey almost got his frost goal.

They usual state who the sub is about 1hr before kick off.
-
When I look at the weather forecasts, it doesn't seem that dramatic. My guess is it has blown itself out and away.

Love that we are contenders. C'mon Dees, keep our season rolling along. Lose, back with the pack and the pressure that comes with having to win. Viney, Rivers, McVee, Tracc, Salem, have been great. Backline are a beautiful unit, the role players give us the style we want, need marking and turnovers to lead to goals. Great chance for Woewodin to cement a spot. A bit of media pressure and hopefully the team responds. Go Dees.

Can never get out to Casey. I don't have a car, and public transport is very time consuming. There are those that can attend, but because it is posted as closed training, the club is not encouraging any spectators at trainings. Again, I think they could and should do better.

School holidays are a great time for open days at training. The last open training was the reconciliation day, and was posted at the last moment, and only a few outsiders were there. There was one that was during school holidays, but was a 10 year consecutive members viewing, and therefore not posted. A few have been captain's runs, where it is little more than a 1/2 hour run. Great that at all the trainings I have been to, the players are always happy to present for photos, signings and chats, for those that wish that kind of thing. There were some preseason open trainings that were great. As they had plenty of kids activities and the Demon Army's BBQ. The media are always there. Rarely and probably impossible to have closed sessions anyway. Why not post training times and encourage the retirees, centrelink's, others with time on there hand, or a spare hour, to enjoy and create some atmosphere for the squad. Especially during a time when the club is enjoying some success. Can only help with greater membership, etcetera. I think they could do much better, less than a handful I'd say, have been posted this season. Why not have a Casey open day training, especially during school holidays?

The MFC have shifted out to Casey for a while. I can't attend trainings. Due to the FIFA Women's World Cup, Melbourne will be based at Casey Fields for all main training sessions throughout July and August. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/training-times
