Players come in and out of form at stages.  It's a long season.

But to have this many out of form, especially through the middle.  We simply have to get two out of the three amigos back to their best to have any chance against the Cats.

Then there's Petty.  He simply must take a spell at Casey to try and gain some match fitness and form.

At this stage i'd also look to bring Sestan in for Sparrow.  He probably isn't quite ready for a four quarter match but could come in as the sub with Laurie brought in to the interchange.

Agreed. I had the same thought with Petty as well. He looks like he just needs a short spell with Casey, just to get some touch back. I dont think it'll take much.

  2. Let's see Harry Petty back in that forward line alongside JVR Fritta and the like, minus the slippery conditions at the SCG, and then we can make a call.

Footy pundits have blinkers on and the worst ones and are just 'see and react' because a level head and a bit of context doesn't get clicks.

  3. Wowee. Much better return yesterday. Can never read too much into a preseason game, but so much to like.

Howes did some really good things down back. Great delivery by foot. Love Salem in the midfield. Windsor looks a real talent, very exciting. And it just feels like we finally have enough quality ball users now: Billings, Laurie, Bowey, Salem amongst others.

Plenty of personnel to come back too. Good stuff.

  4. This is so devastating. Poor Gus. A legend that will be sorely missed.

I hope Maynard, McGuire and everyone else that was patting themselves on the back about 'justice' being done following the incident being given the all clear have a moment to reflect on this.

A player in his prime has been forced to retire because of what happened and that is not right.

Haven't spent much time on Demonland over the offseason, or at all in the big scheme of things. I came back here the other day to see what others thought of a few things I noticed watching the scratch match against Richmond. Good Lord people, what's happened to us?

By "Us" I mean Demon supporters as a whole, on every platform. I truly believe it's never been this bad. The infighting, gossip, completely unfounded rumours and trash talk is completely ruining what used to be a few different places to dribble a bit of [censored] about the footy no matter the result. Yes we whinged, moaned and lamented but it was fairly good natured (for the most part) and the team still had our full backing.

Offseason was rough, agreed? It's been a pile on of monumental proportions. Coming at the club from every angle. It's been hard to listen to. From the 24/7 media cycle blaring it into our skulls to opposition supporters gleefully rubbing it in our faces. Well, I'm sorry but it's not going away soon, get used to it. The more we react the louder they become. Why do you think the club doesn't say much? Anything they say is twisted and turned and dissected on radio shows endlessly. It's easier to just say nothing.

We are already arguing about how [censored] the 2024 season is going to be! WTF!? WE HAVEN'T PLAYED A GAME YET! Guess what? We are going to lose games. Unfortunately that is just the reality. We will lose games. Some honourable losses but also some horrible losses to teams that have no right to play as good as they do against us. But, we will win some as well. The boys will dig deep and get us across the line in spectacular fashion and make us leap out of our chairs and scream with joy. There will be horrible wins as well, just scraping across the line against someone that we were all confident we could relax for. That's footy. Highs and lows, the agony and ecstasy of sport in general.

We achieve nothing by fighting amongst ourselves. By all means, let's have constructive debate over how we can make the team better, who belongs where on the field, who's played well or not. Let's not get too carried away with the off field stuff. That's for the club and players to worry about. We are supporters, our job is to support. We cannot do that when we are spending our time endlessly and viciously arguing over things we cannot control.

Let's unite, support our boys (and girls), let them know that we are still here, despite all the outside noise.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Had an hour up my sleeve before the boss came in. Probably just screaming into the void.

I love you all. I love this team. C'mon Dee's.

    Great post and beautifully written.

    Go the Dees.

The thought of Tmac trying to bite of yet another high risk kick from defence and giving straight back to the oppo gives me cold sweats.

For anyone thinking he would be a good option down back please remember the reason he went forward in the first place - it was last chance saloon for him because he was such a turnover merchant down back.

Tmac was gonski if he couldn't make it as a forward.

Also Tmac has never been quick or super agile.

Lack of pace and agility for a key defender is a killer and he ain't got any quicker or agile since 2018.

That said a good swing man option.

Exactly what I was thinking. He is too much of a liability down back. Don't understand this move at all.

  7. It'll be interesting if WCE end up keeping pick 1, getting Reid, and we use 6 on Curtin. You'd think WCE would want to build a list of WA talent. Maybe we could do a straight swap in a few years? Wouldn't that be nice.

  8. I like this move to go smaller and not do a straight swap for JVR. It's something different and changes up our forward line. Plus maybe it'll force us to stop bombing into fwd 50.

I really hope I don't regret this comment. I'll keep this open in a tab so I can delete it later.

I hope he is able to get back on the field, but even if retirement becomes the only option, he will still be a very good looking friendly young man with a habit of self-development, a pile of money and at least one magic moment.

Have watched this goal replay many a time. Still sends shivers down my spine. Will always have a soft spot for Hannan, he seemed like a great guy too. Best of luck to him and hopefully the injury is not career ending.

Brilliant again today. His will to win is simply out of this world. I think he deserves to sneak his way into the AA team at the end of the year but he seems to fly under the radar as he's been living in the shadow of Oliver and Trac over the past three years.

Totally agree. Does not get the recognition he deserves. Always gets praised for his hardness and for being a battler but that totally sells him short. Would be lauded a lot more for all that he brings if not for Trac and Clayton.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Still got Woey senior's signature somewhere. My dad, who worked in the media, got it for me back in the day not long after his Brownlow win because he knew he was my favourite player at the time.

  12. So many players to get excited about at the moment. Rooey first game. McVee is such a classy user and moves so well (that little kick - run - receive off halfback yesterday). Chandler building. Fritta dusting off the cobwebs. Then you have guys like Bowey and Rivers who look in great touch. And then Spargs who does not get enough plaudits for what he does.

Then all the A graders. We have so much talent at the moment. Bloody exciting.

  13. Can someone explain the Bowes deal to me? I know Geelong are doing the Suns a favour by taking on the contract, by why is there such a high pick thrown in??

Bowes isn't a spud so how on earth is it so heavily weighted in the Cats favour?

It really does seem like a case of the rich getting richer and massively unfair for the rest of the comp.
