Window is shut, we are already behind the best teams and will continue to slip slowly until we need to rebuild in 4-5 years time and we can then start all over again, I was hoping we would be able to sustain like cats and swans have over a long period of time but I just don’t see it happening. Maybe in 10-12 years time we might do better. I just hope I don’t need to wait nearly 60 years

No top four this year just too many things gone wrong  (Gus etc)   make 8 win one final prob acceptable.   Max May  how much longer especially the way Max is attacked every week   Is Pickett ever going to come on ?  Petty made of Glass ?     I think a few years after this.. may be a rebuild which the system is in place to knock you done after a few years.   How much longer had FRISCTH got to go ? clubs will throw the kitchen sink at him      Best chance of course(apart from 2021 was last year and muffed it    I always said I would be happy to win one  which we did but could have been better

The Dees were fumbly and lacked forward cohesion but held on for three quarters before ultimately going down to the Swans by 22 points in the Opening Round of the season at the SCG.

prepared to write that one off due to to horrible slippery conditions that Sydney handled better  Next week will tell   Footy should not start till late march. Playing in tropical conditions is rubbish.  Terrible game to watch

  3. Everyone I speak to  (they know I am a demon tragic)  are saying they expect us to drop out of top 4.  Bookmaker have us at $9.50 for flag a major drop from last year,   I would have though we were close last year (but muffed   it with injuries bad luck etc)    ...  but window still well and truly open...... am I missing something here

It doesn’t feel like 19 years ago. I will always remember where I was when I heard the news. So tragic for this to happen even more so on your honeymoon.

i couldn’t stop crying at that 2005 tribute game. Saddest and most emotional game I think I have ever attended. RIP Troy.

19 years ago  cannot believe it  God bless you Troy

It seems I’m in a minority here.

I enjoyed season 2023 more than many other season (2021 the obvious exception).

IMO the quality of the game is trending upwards and equalisation is working (has there ever been a better bottom 4 side than 2023 Gold Coast?). Combined with great crowds for great at-stadium atmosphere, and I’ve loved it.

I completely agree that the MRO system is broken. I don’t subscribe to the corruption guff many on here believe from the Maynard incident - the rules are murky and there has been inconsistency as to classification of bumps for years - but the entire system is stuffed and needs an overhaul. I also agree that umpiring is at historic low levels of performance.

But for whatever reason, I can get past that and enjoy the sport.

    I’m super excited for 2024.

yes  apart from us going out in  straight sets   enjoyed the year.    maynard let a bad taste  hope karma gets him    If only with the dees   (fritsch kick Viney kick Kossie cost us Carlton game with ill discipline     Petty out etc)    Bring on 2024

My greatest football supporting day in the life of my family and we had to watch it in three different households but we all turned up to watch the replay together 1st thing Sunday morning. 💕💕💕

Yeah amazing   might    Please one more at the G       I really though we could do it this year but alot of  bad luck played a big part.                    Reload  with the trade and draft (strong hand this year)   We will be top 4 again next year I am sure... (hope)    Thanks to all players again this year you busted your guts all year alas not to  be

For a start, I don’t think Viney should start there.

One sided and lacks breakaway speed.

Yeah I think you are right we all love Viney but a bit slow out of centre clearances    We hardly ever win a centre clearance

Still confused about Grundy not playing against Carlton.

    Did Goody get it wrong?

Yes Yes absolutely Yes      Grundy comes in last quarter    we win   Max was starting to struggle        Shocking selection mistake   but we move on   watch out 2024 (I hope)        I never question the effort. We are not soft just muffed it with execution and poor team selection..  and a big dose of plain bad luck

For me, we kind of went out in straight sets the previous Thursday in that loss to the Pies. Pretty much all the marbles were on the line in that game and we came up just short. Geez we had some bad luck going in with those injuries to Melk and Petty, then Brayshaw getting KO'd in first quarter. Losing Gus was a lot more critical to that loss than we care to admit.

Carlton are going to get pumped at the Gabba this weekend and in all likelihood so would've we. Our forward line was never going to be good enough to win three tough finals after losing in the first week. We were pushing excrement up hill from the moment the final siren blew in that Qualifying Final.

I'm actually proud of the boys for the way they battled across the two games. Yes, we torched a truckload of entries and our forward craft was comical at times, but we all knew this was going to be our Achilles Heel heading into the season. TMac and BBB? C'mon, let's get real. They were both cooked 12+ months ago. Not at all sure Chandler is up to it either. He was dreadful in both finals and generally poor after about round 8. We need upgrades on all of those guys.

All's not lost, though. We finally get to use the Luke Jackson picks to help address the issues in attack, as well as add some high-quality kids at the pointy end of the draft. That's a luxurious position to be in for a side that finished in the top four at the end of the home and away. To my reckoning we're still well in the hunt for another flag over the next two or three seasons but it is contingent on absolutely nailing this upcoming draft/trade period. A combination of experienced role players and kids who can have an immediate impact is definitely the way to go, rather than pile all eggs in the Harley Reid basket. That's not where we're at as a club.

The only question popping up time and again in my mind though is ... is Simon Goodwin good enough to become a dual or even triple premiership coach? He kind of rode the coattails of Paul Roos groundwork to win the 2021 cup but now it's on him to come through with a second one entirely in his own right. It's going to be a lot tougher and he's going to have to be a lot smarter and cleverer with the methods and strategies he deploys in-game (and at selection) in order to achieve it. Like everyone I hope he's the man, but there's been enough poor decision making in the box over 2022/23 to suggest there are a few doubts there. It's up to him now to prove the knockers wrong. "Double straight sets exits" is some hard mud to wipe off.

I think we all knew deep down we were stuffed after going down to filth by a bees dick. (JWR out Gus out  etc)   As along as Carlton gets thrashed by Brisbane and Brisbane beat filth (or GWS beat filth) all is ok   Already looking forward to next March with new draftees etc      Want one more cup with this list

Christ I and a few others said the same thing!! BRAINLESS team selections

I am still amazed GRUNDY was not sub and used in last quarter       Something more to it   like a major falling out with coaches or something

I think in the cold light of day we aren’t playing the type of football that wins finals, and the numbers back it up.

We’ve been defending our place for the last 2 seasons. We play with such restriction and tension. Everything is done through the lens of defence - because that’s what wins you finals. Except it hasn’t, for 4 in a row. The game has changed again.

Our football department needs fresh faces and new ideas. We went with what we had for 3 years, and we were entitled to do it based on ‘21. Now it’s time to reassess and get some fresh thinking in.

Last night was the worst loss we’ve had as a club for a long, long time. You can’t consistently get beaten by what you know. We’ve known we’ve got forward half connection problems for 7 years.

Yep worst loss since 1988 perlimary. Imagine losing a grand final like that

  16. As long is Grundy is sub  all good.  Getting tired of honorable loses where we we won on stats but not score board   I think we win tonight.  Good record against Carltank     Should be equal number of fans both sides unlike last week were all carltank fans      Please win !!!
