I don't believe those figures at all. Melbourne have a massive dormant supporter base but many have just pulled their heads in due to the pathetic performance of the team over the last 20-30 years. A doctor I met recently told me that her whole family (7) followed Melbourne but neither she nor family have joined in the past. She said they may well do next year, so go as far as we can in the finals and our membership will really jump.

That's not quite right. Most times you have a Foxtel commentary team. Have had Foxtel since first day of broadcasting as I cannot cope with the bias commentary of channel 7. Perhaps the AFL realize that a Melbourne home game in the finals will pull 70-85k at least. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, a directive was issued to ensure that will happen. I was blown away with what I thought was a fair umpiring display for both teams. Sure they missed some for both teams but generally a balanced performance by them.

I was working and watching the game and my hands were shaking so much I went for a walk in the rain thinking if we won I will tape it on Foxtel to see what I missed. Thought I had timed it well but got home with 3 mins to go and just jumped around the house cheering. Yes there were tears in the eyes.
