Really big game today for all MFC players, but in particular Davis, Magner, Couch and Taggert. They're all (largely) untried, but with a new coach and with some underperforming players, the chances will come.

If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....
titan_uranus replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't be surprised if Simpkin's hit was thrown out because there wasn't enough force to constitute a reportable offence. The MRP loves going off medical reports and nothing happened to Dawes. Meanwhile, whatever degree of injury McEvoy got will work against Spencer, who is going to cop 2-3 weeks you'd think. Really disappointing given he needs game time in the seniors to cement his spot on our list. I think Simpkin should be out for at least as long as Spencer is, but I don't think it's going to happen. -
Rubbish call on Dawes. He was either unfit or unwell, from varying reports, yesterday. His first half against Collingwood, pre-injury, was outstanding, and he was one of our best against Hawthorn the week before. He's one of our best players, and when he has a full forward line (i.e. Dawes, Clark, Hogan, Watts) he'll be even better.

Melbourne sponsors backlash over Demons
titan_uranus replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only part of this that is new to me is the peace deal we've offered Kaspersky. It's not new, but it just goes to show how poorly Schwab ran this club. -
Changes Next Week v Western Bulldogs

The dive was bad. Riewoldt complaining for that free kick for holding, which he got, even though he was holding McDonald and poor Tom wasn't doing anything, was equally a disgrace. -
You should know better of Demonland. It's unfortunate, really.

What exactly do you want, H_T?Do you want the members to decide who the President will be? Or the other members of the Board? Do you want us to say no to the AFL? Would you rather we didn't ask the AFL in the first place?
-
Agree on the spread, I was more noting that it still stands out as being sub-par. We'll need more than a week to get better at it, that's for sure. It's a shame with Terlich - he's often the one making space and running to link-up, but when he gets the ball you just have no confidence that he's going to hit a target.

Essentially, deanox, one acts in self-defence when one perceives an immediate threat to themself. The argument here was that the defendant thought that Matthews was about to hurt him, and so acted in self-defence.
-
Also thought Blease was better today. Gets involved more each week. I still feel he needs to learn when to pass it more, but if he keeps going like this it's going to click sooner or later.

Changes Next Week v Western Bulldogs
titan_uranus replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Those calling for Watts to be dropped are just showing their anti-Watts bias. I presume they're at home watching Naitanui's one highlight for the game on repeat, too. Watts' second efforts, aggression, intensity, speed, and willingness to get involved were all up today. He was clearly one of our best. For the second week in a row he had no support, with Dawes out again (Fitzpatrick isn't good enough). With Dawes, Clark and Hogan, Watts goes from the primary focus to more being like Gunston for Hawthorn, and that will only make him more dangerous. Out: Spencer (if suspended), Dunn, Pedersen In: Gawn (if Spencer goes), Frawley, Magner/Taggert Frawley has to come back, and against the Dogs we're going to need more presence in contested possession. Pedersen goes because the Dogs are a small side, with McDonald and Frawley more than sufficient. Dunn has to go, he's adding nothing to the side. I'd rather Craig take a look at Magner, or Taggert, or someone else who performs well at Casey tomorrow. -
DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 13
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Garland 5 - Sylvia 4 - McDonald 3 - Watts 2 - N Jones 1 - Toumpas -
We had far more of the ball, we had more uncontested possessions, the disposal differential was 34 which is much better than the past few weeks. We even went inside 50 more times than St Kilda did. However, we were appalling in the clearances, we still don't spread hard enough. But our skills are the single biggest thing that is killing us right now. We have so many players who are liabilities with the ball in hand. Unfortunately, Terlich is one of them. I love him just as much as everyone else here, he reads the play well, he gets involved, he can defend and attack, he's tough, I love it. But he can't kick. Too many of our players can't make simple passes, or fumble the ball, or drop marks, or don't hold tackles, or miss handpasses, or over/under-run the ball when attempting to mark. They kicked the first 3 goals in about 5 minutes. After that, it was relatively level, especially given it was a 6 goal final margin. I'm sick of us being behind from the first moments. If we are eventually able to get the first goal (we've done that twice this year), and maybe get a lead going, it might just help our boys with confidence. Thought Watts was good. Made a few mistakes (the missed goals in the second quarter when we had the momentum hurt), but showed a lot. Thought Garland was outstanding. Toumpas is showing why he went at 4 - loved his game, backed up QBD with another good showing. Thought Kent and Clisby also showed promise. On the flipside, Howe was nowhere to be seen for most of the game, Davey had a shocker, Fitzpatrick didn't make any improvement, Dunn is still crap, Spencer refuses to kick. And the umpiring was disgraceful and killed us at critical moments. There was enough there today. Viney and Grimes back in the middle, Clark and Hogan (and a fit Dawes) up forward, another few good runners/mids, and things will come together.

Standard crap from the HUN, and from anyone who's taken this article as another excuse to get on the 'Naitanui > Watts' or 'Martin > Trengove' or 'we should have Dangerfield' bandwagons. If we'd drafted Naitanui, he more than likely would have gone back home. He also would have about 30% less muscle mass on his body, and wouldn't have been trained by Dean Cox, but instead would have been 'led' by Mark Jamar. At the time, Trengove was not rated any less than Martin, but Martin had some perceived extra baggage. It's not like we went left-field on Trengove. But then again, who cares? It's so much easier to complain about these things than to think about them.

Which 'other people'? You? If you're the only one, then I'm not fussed.
-
I don't see what the fuss is. The current board isn't any good. We need a replacement. Members are not, nor should be, empowered to make this decision - it runs the risk of leaving us with someone incapable (e.g. Kennett, Schwarz). This process ensures we end up with someone capable. That's all that we need. We don't need this fantastical notion of 'rights' and 'votes' and all that crap. Let's just acknowledge that our club is a basket case and that if it wasn't for the AFL, who knows where we'd end up.
-
I assume you're livid at the decisions to sack Schwab and for McLardy to stand down. I also assume you think we're going to win a stack of games in the run home? I also assume you have a strong anti-Neeld bias and you're a little bitter.
-
Strauss in the forward pocket - is that something regular for him at Casey? Or is this new?
-
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
-
You're an insufferable git.

Spencer over Gawn is an interesting one. Really can't see how Spencer is better than Gawn. I don't like that one. Also can't say I'm a big fan of Nicholson but they will have gone for someone with pace to replace Evans. But the biggest glaring thing about this team is that Dunn has kept his spot. That is disgraceful.
-
Let's damn well hope so. Dunn is the last player on our list who deserves a game this week, after the abhorrent tripe he served up on QBD (and has been serving for his entire career).

The current logo, the jumper design, the bugler, these things are legacies of the Schwab era and may well stand to be dumped/replaced/modified with new administratoin. The bugler's already been demoted to only as the final siren approaches during a win, but it should be dispelled altogether. The logo I'm not fussed about, I think it serves its purpose and I don't think the cost of changing it outweighs any possible benefit right now. The jumper design, to me, is fine. The collars are I guess a bit silly, so they could go, but otherwise there's not a lot to worry about there. What do you want to do about the clash strip? If you don't like white, you're going to have to get used to it.

Total rubbish from Kennett. Still won't name who's with him. Still can't say exactly what he wants to do to the club. Still hasn't explained why he's gone from wanting us to merge in April to wanting us to be a strong brand in June, aside from the obvious fact that he wants to stoke his ego by being President. Go away Jeff.
